Keřka, Ondřej January 2017 (has links)
Perception of the Russian Threat in the Czech Political, and Administrative Discourse Abstract The goal of this diploma thesis is to find how the Russian threat is perceived in the Czech political, and administrative discourse. The author decided to use constructivism, and discourse analysis to achieve the goal. Concretely he was inspired by Teun A. van Dijk's approach. The author chose actors, which in his opinion are the most important for shaping of the Russian threat construct in the Czech political, and administrative discourse. There are two categories of chosen actors. First category is composed of relevant institutions: The President of the Czech Republic, and his office, and The Government of the Czech Republic. The author chose five sub-actors to represent the government: The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Ministry of the Defence and Armed Forces of the Czech Republic, Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic, and Ministry of Industry and Trade. Second category is aimed on parliamentary political parties, and movements in the Chamber of Deputies. The discourse could be characterized like fragmented. Mikalyuk, Diana January 2017 (has links)
New financial institutions of BRICS are a new phenomenon in the context of international global finances. Since the beginning of the debate about creation of the BRICS financial institutions, a wide debate has emerged around the phenomenon, both in the academic and political spheres. The key element of the debate was the question, what role can BRICS play in the system of global governance. This thesis analyzes the phenomenon of the New Financial Institutions BRICS through the theoretical concept of the contested multilateralism and emphasizes that the new practices and rules of the given institutions lead to the creation of a regime complex in the field of international finance. Subsequently, the work through the method of content analysis of selected media explores the motivation of one of the BRICS member states, specifically Russia, to create these institutions. During the process of institution-building, motivations and objectives of Russia were not clear. This work aims to identify this motivation, which should contribute to a deeper understanding of possibilities for future development of the New Development Bank and The BRICS Contingent Reserve Arrangement.

A Discourse Analysis of the Crimean Speech: Vladimir Putin's Testimony / A Discourse Analysis of the Crimean Speech: Vladimir Putin's Testimony

Sosnovskykh, Volodymyr January 2017 (has links)
This diploma thesis analyses Vladimir Putin's justification of the annexation of Crimea based on an interpretation of the discourse used in his Crimean Speech. The research uses the "Discourse- Historical Approach," inspired by Critical Discourse Analysis, as the methodological and conceptual foundation of the analysis. In addition, it incorporates other linguistic and social representation theories. The historical background of Crimea and Ukraine is used as a basis for assessing Russia's claim on Crimea. The analysis is categorized into four appeals: 1) the appeal to common history and culture; 2) the appeal to historical military involvement; 3) the appeal to justice; and 4) the appeal to international law. The appeals are contextualized using broader historical themes associated with the discourses used by Putin to justify the annexation. The interpretation is informed by historical context within each category. In the conclusion, the research presents the finalized interpretation, in which Putin's justification for the annexation of Crimea is shown to be constructed using the manipulation and selective recounting of historical facts. This diploma thesis uses a close textual reading and analysis of Vladimir Putin's Crimean Speech to expose the myths and manipulations he uses as a justification...

Goliáš versus Goliáš: Podpora demokracie ze strany EU ve východním sousedství a alternativní agenda Ruska / Goliath Versus Goliath: EU Democracy Promotion in the Eastern Neighbourhood and Russia's Alternative Agenda

Depo, Bogdana January 2018 (has links)
of The PhD Thesis by Bogdana DEPO 'Goliath Versus Goliath: EU Democracy Promotion in the Eastern Neighbourhood and Russia's Alternative Agenda' The proclamation of the ultimate victory of the liberal democracy, which was popular in the 1990s, has clearly become inconsistent today, especially if one looks at the Eastern Partnership countries. Whereas EU was the biggest democracy promoter in the world, establishing stable democracy in its Eastern European neighbourhood remains a challenge. The main assumption of these thesis is that Russia's competitive agenda has outbalanced EU's efforts in democracy promotion, or at least challenged it. This competition was manifested by considerable evolution of the policy instruments developed by both competitive actors. Goliath versus Goliath describes EU's growing assertiveness with democracy promotion and Russia's alternative agenda which offsets EU's influence in the shared neighbourhood. Theoretically speaking it might appear as a clash of the liberal democracy concept versus realism. The main conclusion of these thesis is that the EU was not be able to advance its democracy promotion as every new step in democratization was met with a spiral of Russia's assertive actions.

Rusko v rámci ukrajinské vládní diskuze: Od Krymu k Minsku II / Russia in the Ukrainian governmental discourse: From Crimea to Minsk II

Krupskyi, Ivan January 2018 (has links)
Since 2014, the increased interest of academia to the Ukrainian-Russian relations was reflected in the growing number of publications on this problematics. In spite of this fact, there still exists a research gap on representations of Russia in Ukrainian discourses, which are often taken as self- obvious. This in turn may lead to incomplete understanding of Ukrainian policies towards Russia. The specific aim of this work is to provide an additional instrument for understanding Ukraine's foreign policy towards Russia. In order to provide an insight into the way the Ukrainian government perceived Russia, discourse analysis of chosen articulations was conducted. As this work demonstrates, the central element of representations of Russia in the Ukrainian governmental discourse were systematic attempts to delegitimize the Russian foreign policy towards Ukraine through undermining legitimacy of the Russian leadership. This was done in a number of ways: the discourse actively used historical dimension and constructed categorization of good and bad periods of Ukrainian-Russian relations, characterized Russia as archaic, non-civilized and aggressive, and separated Russian political elites from Russian citizens, thereby undermining internal legitimacy of the current Russian regime. At the same time, the...
