Troja in Nürnberg: Ordnungsvorstellungen des Stadtbürgers Hans Sachs in seinen Meisterliedern zum trojanischen Sagenkreis / Troy in Nuremberg: concepts of order in the master songs of the citizen Hans Sachs about the cycle of the Trojan sagasRoth, Andrea January 2018 (has links) (PDF)
Subject of the dissertation are the 26 master songs of Hans Sachs picking up episodes from the Trojan War and the wanderings of Odysseus. Troy was considered in the Middle Ages and early modern period to be a prototype of the urban community, so that in its case - in the double sense of the word - could be studied exemplarily, which ensured or undermined the cohesion of urban life. The cycle of sagas around Troy therefore offered itself to the craftsman and poet Hans Sachs in a special way to deduce concepts of order for the urban community of Nuremberg.
The work is based on a double question: On the one hand, the processing of the literary prototype in the master songs is analysed, on the other hand, it is asked how Hans Sachs participates with his songs in the contemporary context of norms and, for his part, helps shape that context. This double approach is immediately suggested by the composition of the songs, which are usually divided into narratio and moralisatio. The study is performed in detailed individual analyses interviewing the songs also for possible internal contradictions. Textual basis of the studies is an adjusted copy of the songs following the oldest manuscript; in most cases it is the first edition of the song.

Molecular mechanisms of Tay Sachs Disease: calcium, excitotoxicity, and apoptosisKing, John-Paul 08 1900 (has links)

The objective is to investigate the molecular mechanisms leading to
neurodegeneration in Tay Sachs disease, a lysosomal storage disorder caused by a
deficiency in the enzyme hexosaminidase A. This was accomplished using microarray
analysis of normal and Tay Sachs neuroglia. Microarray data analysis was performed
using Onto Express, PANTHER software, and cluster analysis. The expression levels of
selected genes were validated using Real Time PCR. To establish a physiological
relationship between GM2 accumulation and the expression of these genes, their
expression was assessed after treatment with an inhibitor of ganglioside synthesis, nbutyldeoxynojirimycin
(NBDNJ). Neuronal pentraxin 1 (NPTX1), potassium channel, subfamily K, member 2 (KCNK2), and prostaglandin synthase 1 (PTGS 1) were found to be upregulated in Tay Sachs neuroglia while heme oxygenase (HMOX1) was
downregulated. The mRNA levels ofNPTX1, KCNK2, PTGS1, and HMOX1 all reverted
to normal levels in response to ganglioside synthesis inhibitor. Pentraxin RNA levels
were also reduced in response to sialidase overexpression, another method of GM2
reduction. Pentraxin protein levels were also increased in Tay Sachs cells in response to
u-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methylisoxazole-4- propionic acid (AMPA), and were attenuated
upon treatment with either NBDNJ or AMPA antagonist 2,3-dihydroxy-6-nitro-7-
sulfamoyl-benzo [f]quinoxaline-2,3-dione (NBQX). Strong colocalization was seen
between NPTX1 and the AMPA receptor as well as the glutamate transporter EAACI.
AMP A receptor function was also enhanced as illustrated by an increase in calcium
influx upon stimulation. This stimulation also resulted in increased apoptosis during AMPA receptor stimulation. In this study, our genetic profiling experiment led to the identification of NPTXl as a marker of pathogenesis in Tay Sachs Cells. The role of NPTXl in excitotoxicity implicates the latter in disease mechanism associated with Tay
Sachs disease. Furthermore, this study provides evidence that TSD cells undergo
programmed cell death in response to increased intracellular calcium as a result of
increased glutamate receptor stimulation.
/ Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)

Considering the degree of integration of the Brazilian economy, this paper seeks to test the explanatory power of the Goldman Sachs Model for the expected returns by a foreign investor in the Brazilian market during the past ten years (2004-2013). It begins by testing the degree of integration of the Brazilian economy during this period, in an attempt to better understand the context in which the model has been used. In sequence, the risk factor betas (market risk and country risk) of the sample stocks were estimated and a panel regression of expected stock returns on these betas was performed. It was found that country risk is not a statistically significant explanation of expected returns, indicating that it has been added in an ad hoc fashion by market practitioners to cost of equity calculations. Thus, although there is evidence of a positive and significant relationship between systematic risk and return, the results for country risk demonstrate that the Goldman Sachs Model was not a satisfactory explanation of expected returns in the Brazilian market in the past ten years.

The light we receive from the Cosmic Microwave Background is redshifted by the gravitational
potential caused by the mass of the objects it meets on its way toward us. This effect is called the
integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect.
In this master’s thesis, we calculate a collision term between the photons and a massive scalar
particle which will affect the energy distribution of the photons we observe. This calculation is
made using the Fierz-Pauli action to find the cross section of this collision.
What is new in our approach is that we assume that the density variation of the universe
induces a shielding of the gravitational field which results in a Debye mass of the graviton. We
calculate what this mass term is and we then use quantum field theory to obtain a collision term to
be added to the Boltzmann equation governing how the energy distribution of photons evolves.

The result of direct aid: Masaka, UgandaCeryak, Elizabeth January 2012 (has links)
This paper is concerned with the efficiency of aid in Masaka, Uganda which is about 140 km from the capital city Kampala. It uses the results of 300 surveys and several interviews to gather data, and a causal methodology to define results. Much of the methodology is based on theories from William Easterly, Andrew Mwenda, Dambisa Moyo, Jeffrey Sachs, and Amartya Sen. It has been concluded that there are several problems in the Masaka area. One is Uganda's federal government, which is inefficient and unaccountable. There is also lack of easily accessible health care for rural citizens, and a lack of local development due to poor governance. Conversely, the residents of Masaka are quite developed in terms of employment and education, and have rated themselves as quite free and satisfied with life. There is also a quite adequate level of gender equality, especially in terms of education.

Poets, belief and calamitous timesYoung, Gwynith Unknown Date (has links) (PDF)
My research in this thesis covers the religious discourse of six contemporary poets who write belief from a position of calamity. Yehuda Amichai writes from the constant wars fought since the founding of the state of Israel; Anne Sexton from psychiatric illness; Seamus Heaney from the sectarian violence of Ireland; Paul Celan and Nelly Sachs from the twentieth century’s greatest calamity, the Holocaust; and Yves Bonnefoy, from the language theories of post-modernism, which are calamitous for a poet.
