Ruth Sawyer: A bio-bibliography

Unknown Date (has links)
"Miss Sawyer was selected as the subject of this study in the first place because of the writer's great admiration for her work, especially the Newbery Medal Award winner, Roller Skates. Also, it was felt that her children's works were important enough to make a useful study and of sufficient interest and quantity to be worthwhile. Therefore, it is the intent of this study to examine the books for children of Ruth Sawyer and to summarize criticism of these publications found in the usual book reviewing sources in an attempt to present and evaluate her juvenile work"--Introduction. / "August, 1958." / At head of title: Florida State University. / Typescript. / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the degree of Master of Science." / Advisor: Agnes Gregory, Professor Directing Paper. / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 35-47).

"Help, everybody's struggeling with what this is?" : En innehållsanalys av Diane Sawyers framställning av Bruce Jenner / "Help, everybody's struggeling with what this is?" : A content analysis of Diane Sawyers depiction of Bruce Jenner

Tolinsson, Sara, Eriksson, Hanna January 2016 (has links)
The American society is dominated by a heterosexual powerstructure with norm-filled social values. It is difficult for norm-breaking humans who live outside of the gender stereotypical social model, this includes the group of transgenders. The renowned olympic decathlon athlete Bruce Jenner, also known from the TV-series Keeping Up with the Kardashians, came out as a transgender woman in April, 2015, which aroused a great news reporting. This is a qualitative content analysis with the aim to examine Diane Sawyer’s depiction of Bruce Jenner during the interview in the TV-show ABC 20/20. Sawyer is a prominent mediaprofile in the USA and got sole rights to make the last interview with Bruce Jenner before he transitioned to become a woman. We based our method out of the symptomatic reading to understand the underlying message of the questions asked in the interview and have used Selby and Cowdery's three-stage model as an analysis tool when we created our analysis framework. Furthermore, we have applied this analysis schedule on selected key scenes that we transcribed from the interview in order to get answers to our thesis questions. The result of our thesis is that Sawyer has steered the questions asked in the interview, how they are formulated, and through it controlled the depiction of Jenner in the program. Sawyer questions to Jenner was sometimes chareterized by ignorance and prejudice for transgender, however the overall impression of the interview is that she depicted Jenner in a way that was positive and advantageous for him.

Mark Twain's Southern Trilogy: Reflections of the Ante-Bellum Southern Experience

Robinson, Jimmy Hugh 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to explore Mark Twain's involvement with the southern ante-bellum experience as reflected in his Southern Trilogy, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Tom Sawyer's Comrade), and Pudd'nhead Wilson. He came to denounce the South more and more vehemently in these novels, and each occupies a critical position in his artistic and philosophical growth.

Desigualdades mixtas con pesos para operadores multilineales

Picardi, María Belén 04 October 2019 (has links)
In the last years, the study of weighted mixed type inequalities has taken on relevance again, since, from 2005 up to the present day, some of the conjectures related to this type of estimates raised in the 80's have been solved. Most of these results have been obtained in the linear context. In this thesis, we begin the study of this type of inequalities in the multilinear setting. To be more specific, we obtain weighted mixed type inequalities for multilinear Calderón-Zygmund operators and for the multilinear fractional integral. Furthermore, we prove vector-valued extensions of these results.

Aplicación de operadores a los espacios de Calderón-Hardy pesados y teoría de interpolación

Perini, Alejandra Dominga 19 December 2016 (has links)
In this work, we obtain conditions under which there is a continuous extension of the fractional integral operator of Weyl I+y from Calderon-Hardy space Hpq,a+(w) into the space Hp;q,a+(w). The key to this fact is a pointwise estimate that establishes a relationship between the maximal functions N+q;a (Iy+F; x) and N+q;a (F; x) where F E Hp;+q;a (w): That estimate has more applications as will be seen in this work. Moreover we prove a Complex Interpolation Theorem in the Calderon-Hardy spaces. One of the techniques that are relevant for this theorem is the existence of an atomic decomposition with additional properties of Calderon-Hardy spaces.

Robot path planning using 2D image processing in a drawing application

Rodriguez Baidez, Elvira Maria, Beltrá Fuerte, Jorge January 2022 (has links)
Currently, robotics is a discipline that is present, and it is becoming more important in daily life and different areas. Moreover, the research in this field is making improvements on the tasks that robots can perform, making it possible to appear in disciplines that have typically been made by humans, such as Art. In this project, it has been developed and implemented a program that allows the creation of paths after processing a picture, and the control of a real robot to follow the generated paths, in this case, the objective is to perform a sketch from a given picture. Nevertheless, it is applicable in many areas that need this kind of application like processing images, identification of trajectories, and path following. Moreover, in this project, it has been developed to simulate in a virtual environment the path planning and all the features of the real robot, which suppose that the user can check trajectories before trying on the real world, avoid problems of collisions or work without needing the physical robot. For that reason, the objective of this project is to contribute to the development of robotics and create a base that could be used in future research or as a source of information for similar projects that will be performed in the future.

Amiable Humor and Dual Address in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

Molander, Christoffer January 2017 (has links)
The humor of Mark Twain has long fascinated his readers. Critics such as Messent (2007), Budd (2005), Gerber (1988) and Camfield (2005) have all analyzed Mark Twain’s humor to reveal nuances and to help further the understanding of what makes Twain’s writing humorous. However, there is a distinct gap in the research so far conducted investigating Twain’s humor in relation to young readers, which this paper will begin to address. Twain’s novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (2007) poses a relevant subject for this research as Twain explicitly (in the preface to the novel) professes to write both for children and adults simultaneously. Writing in such a way can be categorized as either “double address” or “dual address”, understanding these terms according to the definitions of Barbara Wall (1991). In this paper I will argue that Mark Twain manages to create “dual address” in Tom Sawyer by using what Greg Camfield (2005) calls “amiable humor” and constructing scenes out of childhood in order to produce delight and nostalgia. By reading closely excerpts of the book and analyzing Twain’s specific use of humor through three prominent theories—superiority theory, relief theory and incongruity— it becomes possible to identify what the implied reader is meant to find humorous, and therefore if Twain manages to establish a “dual address”. An understanding of Twain’s humor from the perspective of both young and adult reader furthers our understanding of the novel by revealing Twain’s implementation of complex “dual address” narration and its implications.

Charles Dickens and Mark Twain, the English and American Perspective on Child Heroes Portrayal

MACKOVÁ, Vanda January 2015 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the portrayal of child heroes in English and American literature, in works of Charles Dickens and Mark Twain. The chosen novels are Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. These novels are analysed in the themes of child labour and poverty, racism, religion, the view of the world by children in contrast to the adult perspective, upbringing and education. The last chapter deals with the humour of both novelists. Thus the emphasis is put on the social aspect of the literary output of Dickens and Twain. The main aim of the thesis is to depict these child heroes and their acting in the literature of the 19th century, and to reflect the life experience of both authors.
