Role školy v souvislosti s fenoménem (soukromého) doučování žáků / Role of the School in Connection with the (Private) Tutoring Phenomenon

Šmejkalová, Hana January 2019 (has links)
The aim of the thesis is to describe reference of an elementary school to private tutoring in form of one - case study, concerning second grade of a factual elementary school taken as example, from the viewpoint of all the participants of the educational process. In the course of this work the school became participant of a programme of Ministry of education, youth and sports (MŠMT) - Patterns; that's why the work is enlargened by research of the way this programme has influenced the operation of school. Basic terms are defined, like private and school tutoring, types of its organisational forms, participants of tutoring; also methodology of the research is described. The research plan was set as one-phase research with mixed- method research design. Different forms of data collection were used: the quantitative questionnaires for pupils (n=247) and qualitative interviews with the school leadership, teachers and parents (n=13). There are both types of tutoring in function at the given elementary school, private and school ones, but not in a big scale. The school tolerates private tutoring but doesn't encourage it. Nevertheless the school offers school tutoring within the framework of the project Patterns, which provides adequate help to weak pupils, but its form doesn't satisfy school or children....

A Grounded Theory Study of the Experiences of Gender and Sexually Diverse High School Students: Balancing School Ethos

Huff, Frankie 01 January 2015 (has links)
Anti-bullying campaigns and legislation are on the rise, and school districts are fighting in favor of and against various forms of support for gay and sexually diverse (GSD) students, creating very distinct experienced ethoses in their prospective schools. At times, these ethoses stand in direct opposition of the aspirational ethoses of those same schools. The purpose of this grounded theory study is to understand how schools interact with the educational policies in place to create a balanced ethos. This study uses Charmaz*s (2014) constructivist approach to grounded theory methods to answer the following questions: How, if at all, does the aspirational ethos balance with the experienced ethos in high schools for GSD students, and, how, if at all, are schools creating positive high school ethoses for GSD students? Two themes emerged from this study. The first theme, don*t ask, don*t tell, showed that GSD students are often expected to be silent about themselves and their issues. The second theme, policy is just a beginning, revealed that inclusive policy alone is not enough, administration must interact with these policies and GSD students. The findings of this study indicate that for schools to provide a balanced aspirational and experienced ethos for GSD students, these students must be included in the policies, actions, and interactions of the high school. Schools create a positive ethos for GSD students when the balance is achieved. This study has practical and theoretical implications for anti-oppressive educational practices and discourse regarding GSD students.

Elementary School Attendance in Bradford 1863-1903: A Study Using School Log Books.

Jackson, John Charles January 2015 (has links)
This thesis examines the issue of elementary school attendance in later nineteenth century Bradford. It seeks to do this by means of a little used source: the school log book. The focus of the study is on the experiences of head teachers who faced a constant struggle to achieve and maintain an acceptable level of attendance in Bradford where child employment in the flourishing textile industry had long been an inherent feature of working class life. It investigates broader issues affecting attendance in the context of prevailing social, cultural, religious, and economic factors. While the significant and influential pressures on attendance in Bradford were to be found elsewhere (for example, parental apathy; hostility to compulsory attendance; child labour; health and welfare), this investigation discovers that the town’s problems were compounded and made difficult by its phenomenal growth and rapid emergence by the middle of the nineteenth century as the undisputed capital of the world’s worsted manufacturing trade. It concludes that in the study of Victorian elementary school attendance Bradford deserves greater recognition in consideration of the tension between the demands of the most prolific half-time system of employment in the country, and prevailing attitudes to the introduction of universal elementary education in England and Wales.

O desafio de avaliar polÃticas pÃblicas: conhecer, julgar, "publicizar" e aprimorar / ELECTION OF DIRECTORS: The participation of segments school in the process of democratization of school management

Noemi Nascimento Branco 27 June 2005 (has links)
This presente research investigate if the head teachers election process have been mading with the participation of the school segments â parents, students, teachers and employees in day-today decisions of the education action, in objective of democracy of the management. This discussion is important for us in the sense that, how the head teachers election has been happen, since 1995 in the Cearà State, and the sametime, if it is possible to see how the school central actors had worked on the participation question. In the methodology we made bibliographyc and local research and in that time, we applied questionnaire and we made interview with teachers, students, employees, parents and members of the management nucleus of two state public schools: SÃo Paulo school and SÃo Caetano school: the results shows that, although they accept and they think that the election process of head teachers is positive, theirs participation in the schools direction is not full yet, because they donât know how the education process happens; or because they donât have interest on the school direction, because they donât feel like participating in the education process; or because they are not envolved. The results make us to re-direction the participation practice, in the sence of make real the collective make in the school activities, that impose beliefs and values changes, understanding the participation in a view of consolidation and realization of the democratic management, that goes over of the head teachers choise by direct elections.
