Jørgensen, Marthe January 2014 (has links)
This thesis presents a Q-methodological study, which examines the subjective experiences of people getting feedback in their workplace. The thesis seeks to answer the following research question: How do employees experience feedback in their workplace and how does this affect their self-esteem? The research question is answered by using theories from counselling science and tradition. The empirical data is collected through a Q-sorting process with 21 research participants who were asked to sort 40 statements to reveal their subjective experience regarding feedback. The sample of statements was constructed based on a research design consisting of 3 effects, which are communication (dialog and monolog), feedback purpose (growth and development, control and power) and self-esteem (high and low). Through analysis of the results, a three-factor solution was chosen, indicating three different aspects of the experience of feedback. These aspects were given the following names; Factor 1: ”Seeks and values feedback” Factor 2: ”Is not dependent on feedback, and prefers short and concrete feedback” Factor 3: ”An emotional encounter with feedback” The findings are discussed against relevant theory, in line with the abduction principle in Qmethodology. As a conclusion, we see that feedback affects people’s self-esteem in different ways, which mainly deal with power-perspectives, relational dimensions and emotional aspects.

Ervik, Marthe Rosenvinge January 2013 (has links)
Blekesaune, Elvestad and Aalberg (2012) demonstrates that an increasing segment of the European electorate, seems to dismiss information opportunities through the media. If voters continuously are preferring not to be exposed to political news, how can they trust themselves to be well informed about politics? The assumption of «media malaise» and hypothesis of cognitive mobilisation provides different perspectives on the matter. This paper examines how media exposure affects the citizen’s evaluation of their knowledge about politics, and as a result whether internal efficacy have been increasing or decreasing over time. As media is varying between media systems as defined by Hallin and Mancini (2004), this paper also tests whether internal efficacy is varying between media regimes. By using multilevel modelling and European Social Survey-data the main findings indicates a strong positive relationship between media exposure and political efficacy. This suggests support for the hypothesis of mobilisation. The analysis also indicates a slight decrease in internal efficacy between 2002 and 2008, and significantly lower internal efficacy in polarized pluralist media regimes than in other media regimes. However, the difference between the media systems is not significant when using all European countries as a sample.
