"Låt läkningen börja" : En kvalitativ filmanalys av förlåtelse som fenomen I Tv-Serien Mare Of Easttown / ”Let the healing begin” : A qualitative film analysis of forgiveness as a phenomenon in the TV series Mare of Easttown

Hansson, Louise January 2023 (has links)
In today's film and TV selection, religious and existential issues are often depicted. The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze forgiveness based on thelogical and philosophical concepts in Mare of Easttown (Ingelsby, 2021). Mare of Easttown is a crime drama and at the center of the story is the accident-stricken Mare, played by Kate Winslet. The collection of data has been made via film analysis as the primary method. Focus has been on mapping the interpersonal relationships of the Tv-show. Subsequently, a thematic analysis have been made which gave rise to the cathegories forgiveness in relation to oneself and forgiveness in interpersonal relationships. Certain themes emerges that proved essential for the final analysis. These themes have been defined as the visible religion, Lori and Mare - forgiveness or reconciliation? Mare´s healing process, reconciliation and Mare´s forgiveness of self. The theroretical framework has been applied to the processed material based of concepts from Brümmers (1993) and McCord Adams (1991) models. The result showed forgiveness to be complex with many nuances and possible approaches. In some cases, forgiveness has been possible. In other cases forgiveness has been impossible, and in some cases forgiveness is not portrayed at all. The relationships based of friendship managed to found a mutual forgiveness. The main character Mare finally manages to forgive herself, due to hard moral work. The Christian idea of forgiveness and grace is constantly visible throughout the series and contributes to a deeper discussion as the idea of handing over our trouble to God, especially in cases where the characters themselves fail to forgive.
