A disputa por espaço no mercado automotivo tem sido intensificada a cada ano. A cobrança por componentes mais leves e de menor custo aliados à preocupação ambiental têm exigido a busca de novas alternativas de materiais e/ou processos produtivos mais eficientes. Uma das respostas a estas tendências é o aumento significativo no uso de aços de alta resistência baixa liga e dual phase nos últimos anos a fim de reduzir peso dos componentes. Entretanto, o custo destes aços no Brasil está entre 20 a 40% maior que os aços baixo carbono. Desta forma, para alguns segmentos está descartada esta hipótese, pois o mercado brasileiro exige redução de peso aliada à redução de custo. Sendo assim, a melhoria do processo produtivo ganha força nesta disputa. O processo de repuxamento (spinning) tem sido utilizado há anos para produção do componente disco de rodas para veículos comerciais e é um processo de trabalho à frio severo, o que pode resultar em aumento das propriedades mecânicas do material e redução do uso de matéria-prima em função da porcentagem da redução de espessura proposta. Sendo assim, neste trabalho foram analisadas 3 condições de repuxamento de disco, 41% de redução de espessura, 52% de redução de espessura e 64% de redução de espessura a fim de se obter o limite de redução de espessura do material S355JR por meio do processo de repuxamento do disco sem que haja perda das propriedades mecânicas do mesmo e, assim, gerar aumento da vida em fadiga do componente roda e redução de peso. Para isso, foram realizados os seguinte ensaios: análise de composição química, análise de microdureza, análise metalográfica, ensaios de tração e obtenção das curvas tensão x deformação, ensaios de fadiga por flexão alternada (R=-1,0) e obtenção das curvas S-N. A análise da composição química do aço S355JR verificou que o mesmo atende o especificado em norma DIN EN-10025-2. Por meio da análise metalográfica foi verificado que as fases presentes nos materiais analisados eram ferrita e perlita dispersa na matriz e nos contornos de grão. Através dos ensaios realizados foi observado que houve aumento das propriedades mecânicas do material para as amostras repuxadas e também aumento na vida em fadiga dos mesmos. Além disso, foi observado aumento das propriedades mecânicas e da vida em fadiga para a amostra com maior porcentagem de redução de espessura. / The battle for space in the automotive market is becoming fiercer. Calls for lighter and cheaper components, and also environmental concerns, have led to the search for alternative materials and more effective processes. One of the answers is the recent significant increase in sales of dual phase and high strength low alloy steel, which has reduced the weight of the products. However, in Brazil, the price of these steels is 20% to 40% higher than low carbon steel price and thus it is necessary to look for other options. On this way, for some segments this hypothesis is ruled out because the Brazilian market requires weight reduction combined to cost reduction. Thus, the improvement of the manufacturing process gains strength in this battle. The spinning process has long been used to make the disc of commercial vehicle wheels. It is a hard cold working process which could achieve an improvement of the material mechanical properties and a raw material reduction based on the thickness reduction during the process. Thus, three spun disc conditions were analyzed, corresponding to 41, 52% and 64% of thickness reduction, in order to find out a reasonable limit of thickness reduction with no loss of the material mechanical properties, purposing to increase the fatigue life of the wheel and reducing the wheel weight. The following tests were carried out: chemical composition analysis, metallographic analysis, tensile tests to obtain the stress v strain curves, and fatigue tests by alternated bending (R=-1.0) to obtain the S-N curves. The chemical composition analysis of the S355JR steel proved that it met the DIN EN10025-2 standard. Through metallographic analysis, it was confirmed that, for S355JR steels, whose microstructure is ferrite and perlite, the perlite was near the grain boundaries. Throughout the realized tests, it was observed that there was an increasing of the mechanical properties and the fatigue life of the spun samples. In addition, the mechanical properties and fatigue life of the sample with 64% of thickness reduction had increased more than the others spun samples had.

Assim, tais estruturas são bastante influenciadas pelas condições de extração de calor do sistema metal/molde durante o processo de solidificação. Considerando o exposto, o principal objetivo deste trabalho é projetar, construir e aferir um dispositivo capaz de representar o processo de solidificação unidirecional horizontal refrigerado à água onde o efeito da convecção solutal é considerado. A aferição do dispositivo de solidificação em questão foi realizada através da avaliação da unidirecionalidade dos grãos colunares por meio da caracterização das macroestruturas das ligas Al-4%Cu, Sn-5%Pb, Sn-15%Pb e Sn-20%Pb. Os resultados experimentais obtidos da posição da isoterma liquidus em função do tempo são comparados com aqueles fornecidos por um modelo numérico proposto na literatura. Finalmente, é realizada uma comparação entre os valores dos coeficientes de transferência de calor na interface metal/molde levantados no dispositivo construído, com aqueles obtidos por outros trabalhos desenvolvidos recentemente para o caso da solidificação unidirecional vertical ascendente e descendente. / The aim is about the solidification structures of thermal parameters is important to mechanic behaviour of the metallic materials. These structures are influenced by means of heat removal conditions of metal/ mould system during the solidification process. Despite of this, some mathematic models have been developed to appraise the structural and thermal variation mainly considering the upright unidirectional solidification process . This research plans to project, construct and check up one device in order to be able to represent the horizontal unidirectional solidification process cooled by water which considers the solute convection effects. To check up the solidification device, a comparative study was done between the representative experimental bend of metal´s thickness solidification related to time to Al-4%Cu, Sn-5%Pb, Sn-15%Pb e Sn-20%Pb alloys. The present results shows positive consonances. The unidirectional aspect of the heat removal constructed was estimate trough the macrostructure characterization of the studied alloys. Finally a comparative study is done between values of the interface metal/mold heat transfer coefficient obtained trough other newly works developed about ascendant and descendent unidirectional solidification process.

Type-1 Active Falactic Nuclei and their Supernovae

Supernovae (SNe) and more specifically Core-Collapsed SNe (CC SNe) are signatures of on-going star formation (SF), and higher star formation rates. In this project, we perform a study of all SNe ever discovered inside a specific type of galaxy: a type-1 Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN1). We calculate the SN detection fraction for CC SNe and thermonuclear SNe in AGN1. In AGN1, inclination of the host galaxy and the radial distance of the SN to the center of the galaxy are displayed. As a second goal, we gather all SNe from the OpenSN catalogue found close to an AGN1, classify them and compare them with the full sample of OpenSN catalogue host galaxies. Results:We found and calculated the SN detection fraction of AGN1s. We found 16 SNe exploding in 13 different AGN1 host galaxies. The CC/Ia SN ratio is ~ 0.78. Comparing by similar morphology, the AGN1-host galaxies with all the host galaxies from OpenSN, we see that the detection fractions are higher in spiral AGN1 hosts than in normal spiral galaxies, but the difference is not significant (~ 0.4\sigma) to be considered.

Ce travail concerne la recherche et le développement de nouveaux matériaux à base d'étain, pour une application comme électrode négative des batteries rechargeables lithium ion. Afin de comprendre la relation Structure-texture-propriétés permettant d'optimiser le matériau, un ensemble de techniques de caractérisation complémentaires (Diffraction des rayons X, Microscopie électronique à balayage, analyse thermiques et gravimétriques ATD-ATG, spectroscopie Mössbauer de 119Sn et absorption X) ont été associées pour caractériser l'ordre global et l'ordre local dans le matériau. Une analyse détaillée du mécanisme de fonctionnement du matériau composite [Sn-BPO4], réalisée en couplant des méthodes électrochimiques et spectroscopiques, a permis de comprendre la réversibilité du système et de mettre en évidence les intermédiaires réactionnels grâce notamment à la spectroscopie Mössbauer in situ de 119Sn. Le matériau composite testé dans des cellules de laboratoire, montre des caractéristiques électrochimiques intéressantes, une capacité massique de 500 mAh/g et une bonne tenue en cyclage. Ces performances sont liées fortement à la meilleure dispersion de l'élément électroactif et à un solide accrochage à la surface de la matrice grâce à une interface amorphe formée entre les deux composants. Le matériau optimisé a été testé dans des conditions industrielle proposées par la société SAFT-Bordeaux, dans le but d'étudier l'effet de la technologie d'électrode sur les performances électrochimiques

Involvement of the nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-êB) pathway in peritoneal endometriosis

Endometriosis is a gynecological disease in which endometrial glands and stroma are present outside the uterus. Pelvic pain, infertility and decreased quality of life are the main problems caused by this disease carrying epidemiological and social impact. Peritoneal endometriosis which is characterized by the presence of red, black and white pelvic endometriotic lesions is clearly a multifactorial pathology associated with a local inflammatory response in the pelvic cavity. In vitro studies suggest that the transcription factor nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-êB) is implicated in the transduction of proinflammatory signals in endometriosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the involvement and role of the NF-êB pathway in endometriosis in vivo. Firstly, NF-êB activation and intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM)-1 expression were investigated in thirty-six peritoneal endometriotic lesions from women. Constitutive NF-êB activation, involving p65- and p50-containing dimers, was demonstrated in peritoneal endometriotic lesions by electrophoretic mobility shift assays and supershift analyses, as well as NF-êB (p65) DNA-binding activity immunodetection assays. NF-êB activation and ICAM-1 expression were significantly higher in red lesions than black lesions, while IêBá (NF-êB inhibitory protein) expression was constant, as shown by Western blot analyses. Secondly, endometriosis was induced in nude mice by intraperitoneal injection of fluorescent labeled menstrual endometrium. Two NF-êB inhibitors (BAY 11-7085 and SN-50) were injected intraperitoneally and endometriotic lesions were recovered on day 5. Both NF-êB inhibitors induced a significant reduction in lesion development compared to control mice. NF-êB activation and ICAM-1 expression of endometriotic lesions were significantly reduced in treated mice, and cell proliferation in BAY 11-7085-treated mice. Both inhibitors produced a significant increase in apoptosis of endometriotic lesions, as assessed by active caspase-3 immunostaining and the TUNEL method. In conclusion, this is the first study to show constitutive NF-êB activation in peritoneal endometriotic lesions collected from women and during the initial development of endometriotic lesions in an animal model. Differential levels of NF-êB activation have been established between red and black lesions, providing more evidence on the distinct inflammatory status of these two types of peritoneal endometriotic lesions. In addition, this study offers further insight into the pathways implicated in NF-êB activation in endometriotic lesions, showing the involvement of p50/p65 dimers and suggesting participation of the canonical pathway of NF-êB activation. This study also demonstrates, for the first time, that NF-êB inhibition reduces the initial development of endometriotic lesions by inhibiting the inflammatory response and cell proliferation, and inducing apoptosis of endometriotic lesions. The NF-êB pathway therefore looks to be a promising therapeutic target for endometriosis prevention and treatment.

Ganzheitliche Verfahrens- und Schichtoptimierung für das Hochgeschwindigkeitsdrahtflammspritzen

Das Ziel der Dissertation ist die Charakterisierung und Optimierung der Prozessbedingungen beim Hochgeschwindigkeitsdrahtflammspritzen. Dazu werden diagnostische Methoden wie das LDA-Verfahren, die Bewertung von Schichten und numerische Betrachtungen herangezogen. Verschiedene Spritzzusatzwerkstoffe wie Massiv- und Fülldrähte sowie hoch- und niedrigschmelzende Materialien werden verarbeitet. Zur Bewertung der Gebrauchseigenschaften erfolgen Korrosions- und Verschleißtests. Aus den Untersuchungsergebnissen resultieren Hinweise und Konzepte zur Verbesserung der Brennertechnik. Die Entwicklung eines neuen HVCW-Systems wird vorgestellt, welches Spritzpartikelgeschwindigkeiten im Überschallbereich ermöglicht, die deutlich über denen klassischer Systeme liegen. In einem gesonderten Abschnitt der Dissertation wird ein neuartiges Verfahren zur Herstellung hydrolysefähigen Materials vorgestellt. Der hergestellte Al-Sn-Werkstoff zersetzt sich in Kontakt mit Wasser unter Abgabe großer Mengen Wasserstoff in kürzester Zeit vollständig.

Improvements to the pool critical assembly benchmark using 3-D discrete ordinate transport with adaptive difference

The internationally circulated Pool Critical Assembly (PCA) Pressure Vessel Benchmark was analyzed using the PENTRAN Parallel SN code system for the geometry, material, and source specifications as described in the PCA Benchmark documentation. Improvements to the benchmark are proposed through the application of more representative flux and volume weighted homogenized cross sections for the PCA reactor core, which were obtained from a rigorous heterogeneous modeling of all fuel assembly types in the core. A new source term definition is also proposed based on calculated relative power in each core fuel assembly with a spectrum based on the Uranium-235 fission spectra. This research focused on utilizing the BUGLE-96 cross section library and accompanying reaction rates, while examining both adaptive differencing on a coarse mesh basis, as well as the sole use of Directional Theta-Weighted (DTW) SN differencing scheme in order to compare the calculated PENTRAN results to measured data. The results show good comparison with the measured data, which suggests PENTRAN is a viable and reliable code system for calculation of light water reactor neutron shielding and dosimetry calculations. Furthermore, the improvements to the benchmark methodology resulting from this work provide a 6 percent increase in accuracy of the calculation (based on the average of all calculation points), when compared with experimentally measured results at the same spatial location in the PCA pressure vessel simulator.

Nanopatterning and functionalization of phospholipid-based Langmuir-Blodgett and Langmuir-Schaefer films

Durant les dernières décennies, la technique Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) s’est beaucoup développée dans l’approche « bottom-up » pour la création de couches ultra minces nanostructurées. Des patrons constitués de stries parallèles d’environ 100 à 200 nm de largeur ont été générés avec la technique de déposition LB de monocouches mixtes de 1,2-dilauroyl-sn-glycéro-3-phosphatidylcholine (DLPC) et de 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycéro-3-phosphatidylcholine (DPPC) sur des substrats de silicium et de mica. Afin d’amplifier la fonctionnalité de ces patrons, la 1-palmitoyl-2-(16-(S-methyldithio)hexadécanoyl)-sn-glycéro-3-phosphatidylcholine (DSDPPC) et la 1-lauroyl-2-(12-(S-methyldithio)dodédecanoyl)-sn-glycéro-3-phosphatidylcholine (DSDLPC) ont été employées pour la préparation de monocouches chimiquement hétérogènes. Ces analogues de phospholipide possèdent un groupement fonctionnel méthyldisulfide qui est attaché à la fin de l’une des chaînes alkyles. Une étude exhaustive sur la structure de la phase des monocouches Langmuir, Langmuir-Schaefer (LS) et LB de la DSDPPC et de la DSDLPC et leurs différents mélanges avec la DPPC ou la DLPC est présentée dans cette thèse. Tout d’abord, un contrôle limité de la périodicité et de la taille des motifs des stries parallèles de DPPC/DLPC a été obtenu en variant la composition lipidique, la pression de surface et la vitesse de déposition. Dans un mélange binaire de fraction molaire plus grande de lipide condensé que de lipide étendu, une vitesse de déposition plus lente et une plus basse pression de surface ont généré des stries plus continues et larges. L’addition d’un tensioactif, le cholestérol, au mélange binaire équimolaire de la DPPC/DLPC a permis la formation de stries parallèles à de plus hautes pressions de surface. La caractérisation des propriétés physiques des analogues de phospholipides a été nécessaire. La température de transition de phase de la DSDPPC de 44.5 ± 1.5 °C comparativement à 41.5 ± 0.3 °C pour la DPPC. L’isotherme de la DSDPPC est semblable à celui de la DPPC. La monocouche subit une transition de phase liquide-étendue-à-condensée (LE-C) à une pression de surface légèrement supérieure à celle de la DPPC (6 mN m-1 vs. 4 mN m-1) Tout comme la DLPC, la DSDLPC demeure dans la phase LE jusqu’à la rupture de la monocouche. Ces analogues de phospholipide existent dans un état plus étendu tout au long de la compression de la monocouche et montrent des pressions de surface de rupture plus basses que les phospholipides non-modifiés. La morphologie des domaines de monocouches Langmuir de la DPPC et de la DSDPPC à l’interface eau/air a été comparée par la microscopie à angle de Brewster (BAM). La DPPC forme une monocouche homogène à une pression de surface (π) > 10 mN/m, alors que des domaines en forme de fleurs sont formés dans la monocouche de DSDPPC jusqu’à une π ~ 30 mN m-1. La caractérisation de monocouches sur substrat solide a permis de démontrer que le patron de stries parallèles préalablement obtenu avec la DPPC/DLPC était reproduit en utilisant des mélanges de la DSDPPC/DLPC ou de la DPPC/DSDLPC donnant ainsi lieu à des patrons chimiquement hétérogènes. En général, pour obtenir le même état de phase que la DPPC, la monocouche de DSDPPC doit être comprimée à de plus hautes pressions de surface. Le groupement disulfide de ces analogues de phospholipide a été exploité, afin de (i) former des monocouches auto-assemblées sur l’or et de (ii) démontrer la métallisation sélective des terminaisons fonctionnalisées des stries. La spectrométrie de photoélectrons induits par rayons X (XPS) a confirmé que la monocouche modifiée réagit avec la vapeur d’or pour former des thiolates d’or. L’adsorption de l’Au, de l’Ag et du Cu thermiquement évaporé démontre une adsorption préférentielle de la vapeur de métal sur la phase fonctionnalisée de disulfide seulement à des recouvrements sub-monocouche. / In the past two decades, the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique has emerged as a bottom-up route to create nanostructured ultrathin films. Patterns consisting of parallel stripes, ∼100 to 200 nm in width, were generated via the LB deposition of mixed monolayers of 1,2-dilauroyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DLPC), and 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DPPC) onto silicon and mica substrates. To expand the functionality of these patterns, 1-palmitoyl-2-(16-(S-methyldithio)hexadecanoyl)-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DSDPPC) and 1-lauroyl-2-(12-(S-methyldithio)dodecanoyl)-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DSDLPC) were used to prepare chemically heterogeneous films. These phospholipid analogues have a methyldisulfide group attached to one of the alkyl chain ends. An extensive study of the phase structure of Langmuir, Langmuir-Shaefer and LB films of DSDPPC and DSDLPC and their mixtures with DPPC or DLPC is presented in this thesis. Limited control over the regularity and feature size of the DPPC/DLPC stripe pattern was achieved by varying the lipid composition, deposition pressure, and substrate withdrawal speed. A higher percentage of condensed versus fluid lipid, slower deposition speed, and lower surface pressure create more continuous and wider stripes. The addition of a lineactant, cholesterol, to the DPPC/DLPC 1:1 (mol/mol) mixture allowed the formation of parallel stripes at higher surface pressure. The gel-to-liquid crystalline transition temperature of DSDPPC was determined to be 44.5 ± 1.5 °C versus 41.5 ± 0.3 °C for DPPC by DSC and turbidity measurements. The pressure-area isotherm of DSDPPC is similar to that of DPPC. The monolayer undergoes a liquid expanded-to-condensed (LE-C) phase transition at a surface pressure slightly higher than that of DPPC (6 mN m-1 vs. 4 mN m-1). Like DLPC, DSDLPC remains in the LE phase until the film collapse. The disulfide-modified lipids exist in a more expanded state throughout the monolayer compression and exhibit lower collapse pressures than the unmodified phospholipids. The domain morphologies of DPPC and DSDPPC at the air/water interface were compared using Brewster Angle Microscopy. DPPC forms a homogeneous monolayer at a surface pressure (π) > 10 mN m-1, while flower-like domains exist in the DSDPPC monolayers until π ∼ 30 mN m-1. Solid-supported DSDPPC films were prepared and characterized using various surface analysis techniques. The parallel stripe pattern previously obtained with mixtures of DPPC/DLPC was reproduced using DSDPPC/DLPC or DPPC/DSDLPC mixtures resulting in chemically-differentiated patterns. The average stripe width varied from 150 to 500 nm, depending on the lipid composition and deposition pressure. The disulfide group of the analogues was exploited to (i) form self-assembled monolayers of phospholipids on gold and (ii) demonstrate the selective metallization of the disulfide-terminated areas of the stripe patterns. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed that the monolayer-bound disulfides react with Au vapor to form a gold-thiolate species. Thermally evaporated Au, Ag and Cu exhibit preferential absorption onto the modified lipids only at submonolayer coverages.
