The poésie de théâtre of Jean Cocteau as a Synthetic Form of Theatre ArtsSanderson, Judith 10 1900 (has links)

The purpose of this paper will be to examine Jean Cocteau's principle of Eoésie de théâtre, as expressed in his preface to les Mariés de la Tour Eiffel, and to perceive, through the chronological study of his dramatic works, the progressive modification of this principle which consistently retains its validity.

I propose: in Towards a Definition to situate Cocteau in an atmosphere which sollicits a change in the form of theatre art; in Rejuvenation of the Classics by poésie de théâtre to study the techniques of conceptual presentation; in Poésie de théâtre at Maturity to show expressive formula imagery as a refinement of the original principle; in From Classical to Modern Myth to examine the import of poésie de théâtre in a contemporary theme; in Later Works to summarily discuss relevant works of lesser range; to evaluate, in the Conclusion, the importance of Cocteau's concept in the art of theatre.
/ Master of Arts (MA)

/ Master of Arts (MA)

The Supernatural Marine Vessels of the Vulgate CycleGuiver-Bond, Claire 06 1900 (has links)

The aim of this study is to show the literary influences and sources of the supernatural vessels in the Vulgate Cycle with particular concentration on the two religiously oriented and complementary stories, Lestoire del Saint Graal and La Queste del Saint Graal. Among the influences found are fairy and oriental literature, and Greek and Roman mythology which appear to be as prominent as the Biblical material on which the works are based.

In addition, based on the use of the supernatural vessel as a motif, an attempt has been made to determine whether the three stories of the Vulgate Cycle in which these vessels appear, La Mort le Roi Artu, the Estoire and the Queste, are due to a single author, independent authors, or an 'architect' with multiple authors. With reference particularly to the latter two, the evidence, based mostly on the common material of the Solomon's ship episode, seems to indicate that two authors of differing ability were responsible.
/ Master of Arts (MA)
