Phraseology and its sociocultural component: teachers' perspectives on its teaching in the SFL classroom in Sweden. Methodology and challenges.

Fouces Canel, Cristina January 2023 (has links)
The importance of teaching phraseology in the SFL class is something that has been pointed out in recent years given its importance for the acquisition of the communicative competence and other key competences such as the sociocultural. The purpose of this study is to determine, through a survey, how SFL teachers in Sweden teach phraseology and its sociocultural component and what are the challenges SFL teachers in Sweden face when introducing idiomatic language in the classroom. Firstly, the results of this study indicate that there is a non-specific and heterogeneous methodology and that teachers are not fully aware of the importance of phraseology. Secondly, there are a series of challenges that teachers must face, mainly the lack of reference material for teaching phraseology and the lack of didactic material and didactic proposals for students. Additionally, the treatment given to phraseology both in didactic material and in curricula is also problematic. Other pitfalls that the teacher faces are lack of knowledge on the subject, confusing terminology or lack of time when planning their teaching. Therefore, the status of phraseology in the SFL class in Sweden is quite precarious. To begin with, the curricula need to resolve the terminological chaos and provide clear guidelines about which units are appropriate for each level. In the case of the Swedish curriculum there is also an additional pitfall, phraseology is mentioned very briefly and in a very imprecise way. Moreover, it is necessary for teachers to have manuals, dictionaries and specific material and didactic proposals suitable for students. In this way, phraseology will stop being an unknown subject and the importance of its teaching and learning for the acquisition of the target language will be understood.

Odtsetseg, Tsenguun January 2015 (has links)
The present thesis tries to approach the issue of foreign language acquisition and foreign language didactics approaches. The main theme of the work is socio-cultural competence in teaching Czech for foreigners. It also states the issue in a broader context. Following is a detailed analysis of that term and its definition in a social frame of reference levels for Czech A1. The main part comprises of individually assessed five selected textbooks of Czech for foreigners. The analysis is carried out based on own criteria which have been determined in accordance with the required components of the socio-cultural competencies according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and J. Průcha methodologies. In the final part of the thesis is made mutual comparison of books with regard to the extent of helping to deepen and develop the student's knowledge in terms of socio-cultural competence. Sociokulturní kompetence a jazykové vyučování studentů programu Erasmus / Sociocultural competences and language teaching of Erasmus students

Kamenová, Alena January 2017 (has links)
The diploma thesis examines the influence of language teaching on the acquisition of socio- cultural competence through the medium of a questionnaire survey. Based on the interpretation of the data obtained, it provides information about respondents and their relationship to and opinions about the Czech Republic and its inhabitants. The statistical evaluation of this data provides an overview of the level of success in developing socio-cultural competence in selected socio-cultural areas. These are defined with reference to criteria specified at level A1 for Czech as a foreign language in relation to language teaching. The research element is based on theoretical hypotheses that we have presented in the theoretical section of the thesis. The aim of the thesis is to objectively map the development of selected socio-cultural competences by students in the context of language teaching.

Bravo Moreno, Diana 09 1900 (has links)
This research paper focusses on the study of the notion of culture in current Spanish as it is presented in foreign language textbooks (ELE: Español Lengua Extranjera). It also examines how the cultural component is addressed at a time when the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and the Plan curricular del Instituto Cervantes (PCIC) have outlined the unit structure and have refreshed the content requisites for a student to be able to communicate and operate in the foreign language. Based on a literature review of teaching methods for foreign languages a template has been developed to evaluate the presence of the cultural component over a period marked by an intercultural teaching and learning influence, where culture is the central area for the development of intercultural competence for students. Using the template, it has been possible to quantify the cultural component in the analysed textbooks, differentiating what skills are used and determining if it is analysed from an intercultural perspective. Then, a second analysis is undertaken to check how the cultural component is treated in each level of study. Finally, the paper presents a brief analysis of the samples run to check the evolution of the stereotype in the analysed textbooks and define the notion of stereotyped culture about the Hispanic world. The results of our analysis show that there is an interest from ELE textbook authors to integrate the cultural component into their language content. However, the analysis also shows that the presence of the cultural component is still not fully integrated in levels A1-B1, as it is not approached in a constant intercultural way. In addition, we found that there is a tendency to address the cultural component by using skills that foster interaction in class and undermine the importance of other communicative situations necessary to strengthen the learning of ELE. At the same time, the research finds that the use of stereotypes has evolved, as it does not reinforce stereotypical beliefs about the Hispanic world like in the past. Rather, stereotypes appear less often with students encouraged to challenge them, enabling the student to reconsider their own ideas and prejudices about Hispanic culture. However, this work of breaking stereotypes requires the teacher´s objectivity and constant mediation among several actors in the process of learning to compare the reality and avoid the fossilisation of these stereotypical topics. Nevertheless, we note that there is still a mismatch when the cultural component needs to be understood and developed for ELE textbooks. As a result, there is a need to create a structured template in which culture is presented as the main area to learn the language. This research paper emphasises the need to promote a process of intercultural teaching-learning in ELE textbooks.

Práce s filmovým materiálem ve výuce češtiny jako cizího jazyka za účelem prezentace českých reálií / Using Film Material in Teaching Czech as a Foreign language to Present Czech culture

Kolářová, Kristýna January 2018 (has links)
Using Film Material in Teaching Czech as a Foreign Language to Present Czech Culture Abstract The aim of this thesis is to offer teachers of Czech as a second language information about the use of films to present Czech culture in B2 level. The theoretical part focuses on the definition of Czech culture by different authors, and the explanation of sociocultural and intercultural competence. Also, the approach of Weimann and Hosch towards teaching culture is defined, and the main components of communicative approach are introduced. Further, the use of films in language teaching is explored together with the specification of the reasons why films should be used in language teaching, advantages and disadvantages connected to it, and the methods of the film presentation are introduced. The practical part consists of two main parts. In the first part the available materials containing the use of films in teaching Czech as a second language are analysed, and the second part introduces an educational material based on the information found in the theoretical part of this thesis.
