Complexidade dinâmica de um laser de estado sólido de dois modos com realimentação óptica de frequência modificada / Dynamical complexity of a two-mode solid state laser with frequency-shifted optical feedback

Prants, Fabiola Grasnievicz January 2017 (has links)
In this work we studied a solid state laser subjected to frequency-shifted optical feedback from a bifurcation theory point of view. We performed a very broad analysis of the dynamics of this laser in the space of two injection parameters (frequency detuning and injection intensity) using direct integration and numerical continuation methods. While the numerical integration method allowed us to analyze the more complex dynamics, including chaos and hyperchaos transitions, the numerical continuation method allowed us to study stable and unstable bifurcation curves. The analysis was carried out by studying the e ects caused by the change of the parameters that represent the life time of the population inversion and the cross saturation, responsible for the coupling of the elds within the active medium. We show that the parameter that describes the life time of the population inversion is responsible for the appearance of several instabilities in the system, such as the multistability phenomenon, the appearance of periodic and quasi-periodic orbits, as well as routes to chaos via period doubling and torus . For the eld coupling parameter, we show that it allows the presence of hyperchaos in our system, which may present in what we call "weak"and "strong"hyperchaos. Within the "strong"hyperchaos region, we show deterministic transitions of two regimes, in which one laser operates in the Q-switching mode, while in the other the laser presents small irregular oscillations. Finally, we have shown the existence of a extreme events statistic within the hyperchaotic regime.

Laser de Nd:YAG de alta potência, estabilidade e qualidade de feixe / High power Nd:YAG laser with high stability and beam quality

Pinto, Regiane de Souza 30 July 2014 (has links)
The experimental work presented here focuses on the development of a solid-state laser whose performance has been optimized for high power output, high beam quality, and high stability, taking into account the thermal effects experienced by the gain medium under high pumping power. Cavities for continuous wave (CW) operation in multimode with high output power and cavities operating in single mode TEM00 were tested. The resonators will be divided in groups according to their stability diagram. The optimization of such resonators was performed only by changing the curvature radius of the mirrors and their distances to the principal plane of the Nd:YAG rod. As a result was achieved the highest extraction efficiency reported in the literature for one or two intra cavity Nd:YAG modules. The results give an overview of possible designs of resonators for dynamically stable operation with high output power and beam quality. The data serve as basis for the development of new high-power lasers based on low cost DPSSL modules.

Laser self-Raman dobrado intracavidade de alta potência CW operante na região amarela do espectro eletromagnético de aplicações oftalmológicas / High power intracavity doubled CW self-Raman laser operating in the yellow range of electromagnetic spectra of ophthalmological applications

Ortega, Tiago Almeida 18 August 2011 (has links)
The objective of this work is the development and optimization of a self-Raman laser cavity with ophthalmological applications. The laser cavity is a longitudinally diode pumped solid state laser. The laser cavity is so-called self-Raman because an intracavity Raman crystal plays a role as an active media and Raman shifter. This type of configuration is extremely advantageous because it promotes a reduction in costs, dimensions and intracavity losses. Another non linear intracavity element is responsible for the second harmonic generation of the first Stokes line generated by the Raman crystal. Thereby one obtains 586.5 nm radiation coming out of the laser cavity, a wavelength in the yellow portion of the electromagnetic spectra. This yellow-orange range of the spectra is of great importance because and has many and increasingly applications in science, industry and medicine. Particularly in ophthalmology, a yellow laser for retina photocoagulation is of great interest once it is well known that this portion of the spectra is negligibly absorbed by the Xanthophylls, pigment strongly present at the macula. The macula is the portion of the retina responsible for the central vision and because of this laser absorption would be disastrous for the patients eye.

Chung, Chun-Feng 31 July 2011 (has links)
The topic of this thesis is solar pump Neodymium doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet laser, the research of characteristics is that natural sunlight is used as pumped source in instead of diode laser, pulsed Xenon lamp, Krypton arc lamp¡Ketc. In order to reduce use of electric power. By using solar concentrator system, concentration is reached to 8.89 ¡Ñ (10^10). This ratio is set to end pump Neodymium doped YAG. The output power is up to 17.54mW, and the laser slope efficiency is up to 0.04% . On application, If lasers are needed in remote locations where sunlight is abundant and other forms of energy are scarce, a solar laser would seem to be a natural choice.

Study on the Growth and Optical Properties of Large-Sized Highly-Doped Nd:YAG Crystal by Czochralski Technique

Chen, Yingwei 07 August 2012 (has links)
¡@¡@This paper mainly focuses on the discussion about how to grow a large-sized highly-doped laser crystal- Neodymium yttrium aluminum garnet( {NdxY1-x}3Al5O3; Nd:YAG). The higher concentration of Nd:YAG crystal can allow the better efficiency of the laser. Since the ion size doped with Nd3+ ( R= 1.12A ) is larger than the ion size of Y3+ (R= 1.01A ), in the lattice of YAG, it¡¦s not easy to mix the smaller Y3+ site with the larger diameter of the Nd3 + ion. Therefore, the higher concentration of the laser crystal we want to grow, the more difficult work it is. ¡@¡@This experiment works under the use of the Czochralski technique to grow the laser crystal: Nd:YAG, and explore the impacts of different crystal pulling growth conditions on the growth of Nd:YAG crystal. Through adjusting the parameters of crystal growth, the crystal growth environments and the thermal fields, I discuss how to solve the problems of the scattering, cracking and spiral growing during the crystal growth process in order to improve the quality of the crystals. ¡@¡@Finally, comparing the results of a variety of spectral analysis (X-ray diffraction, UV / Vis Spectroscopy, Raman Spectroscopy, PL Spectroscopy) on the slice samples of Nd:YAG crystal which grew by our laboratory with the literature results, we can find that the X-ray diffraction pattern, the absorption spectroscopy, the Raman spectroscopy and the Photoluminescence spectroscopy of the Nd:YAG crystals grew in this experiment are consistent with the literature.

The Study and Fabrication of Cr4+:YAG Crystal Fiber Laser

Tu, Shih-Yu 19 July 2003 (has links)
Abstract During the last decade, the fast-growing communication need has promoted the development of the wavelength of 1.3 mm~1.6 mm laser light source. The Cr4+ doped YAG solid-state laser has potential to meet this super wideband demand. In addition, solid state laser has the merits of high laser beam quality, long lifetime, compact, and simple structure. In this thesis, crystal fiber was used as the laser gain medium, and coated with optical thin film at its end facets as the laser cavity. Using this configuration, the volume and cost of the laser can be appreciatively reduced, and the heat dissipation can be improved. The laser-heated-pedestal-growth method was used to grow crystal fiber, which can obtain small diameter at very fast rate and accurate control. High quality Cr4+:YAG crystal fiber with the smallest diameter of 50 mm was grown. A glass-packaged technique clothes the crystal fiber with a core diameter as small as 11 mm. Outside the glass clad Cr4+:YAG crystal fiber, Al-Cu alloy was employed as the heat sink to improve heat dissipation. After grinding, polishing, and coating of this device, the Cr4+:YAG crystal fiber laser was fabricated. Some characteristics of Cr4+:YAG crystal fiber, such as the distribution of Cr2O3 and CaO doping concentration, fluorescence intensity, refraction index, propagation loss, and absorption coefficient were measured and analyzed. In the meanwhile, some simulations of the laser output power depending on the absorption coefficient, propagation loss, output coupling, crystal fiber diameter, and crystal boundary temperature were discussed.

Beitrag zum flußmittelfreien Laserstrahlhartlöten von Aluminiumwerkstoffen

Braumöller, Jörg 25 January 2003 (has links) (PDF)

New Approaches to Gyroscopic Lasers

Rabeendran, Nishanthan January 2013 (has links)
This thesis presents a study of two aspects of ring laser gyroscopes: Correction of systematic errors due to optical backscatter, and development of solid-state ring laser gyroscopes. Backscatter at the optical surfaces of ring laser gyroscopes causes systematic measurement errors. These errors were modelled and corrected for in large ring lasers. The model included backscattering, hole burning and dispersion in the gain medium. The model predictions were used in conjunction with measurements of the intensity modulation of each beam and the phase difference between these modulation to correct the measured Sagnac frequency of the large ring lasers, PR-1 and G-0. Dramatic improvements in the sensitivity of both lasers were achieved. Most current laser gyroscopes use He-Ne plasma as the gain medium. This makes the devices fragile, the plasma creates UV light that degrades the cavity mirrors and the gas itself degrades over time. As a alternative, solid state materials might be used as the gain medium for the gyroscope. Both neodymium doped and erbium ytterbium co-doped phosphate glass lasers were constructed. Initially linear cavity designs were constructed to test the suitability of the gain media. Both laser systems employed longitudinal laser diode pumping. Thirty six perimeter ring lasers were then developed using both gain media. In both cases successful rotation sensing was achieved on a turntable which provided external rotation. For rotation rates between 0.1 and 0.85 rad/s, the gyroscope built using Er-Yb and Nd phosphate glass are superior to Nd:YAG (the only other material known to have been used in a continuous wave solid state gyroscope). This improvement is due to the use of thin heavily doped gain medium, which decreases the detrimental effect caused by gain gratings.
