Idade e crescimento da abrótea-de-profundidade - Urophycis mystacea Ribeiro, 1903- (Teleostei: Phycidae) na plataforma continental externa e talude do Sudeste-Sul brasileiro / Age and growth of the deep-hake - Urophicys mystacea Ribeiro, 1903 - (Teleostei: Phycidae) on the outer continental shelf and slope of the Southeast-South Brazilian region

Balbi, Thiago José 16 October 2013 (has links)
O peso apresentou maior robustez para predizer a idade dos exemplares / Urophicys mystacea, RIBEIRO, 1903 (Phycidae; Gadidae) is a demersalbenthic species present on the outer shelf and the slope of the South-Southeast region of Brazil. Since 2001 it has been a target fisheries on deepwater and its stock has been decreased. The age of the species was investigated in specimens with total lengths (Lt) between 187 and 632 mm by counting the rings of 201 otoliths slices. The periodicity (annual) and the time of ring formation (autumn) were verified by the relative percentage of the edge type. U. mystacea presents slow growth and moderate longevity. Males from 1 to 6 years and females from 1 to 12 years were found. Growth parameters were obtained by the methods of Ford-Walford and Iterative Least Squares. The most appropriate growth equations were: Lt=549.16 (1-exp-0.203 (t-(-0.9)) for males and Lt=738.08 (1-exp-0.134 (t-(-1.08)) for females. The likelihood test revealed significant differences between the male and female curves. The relationship between otolith morphometric variables and age was obtained (potential model) and its robustness was verified by the coefficient of determination (R2). The weight was more robust to predict the age of the specimens

(A. subg. Pothuava); A. bromeliifolia (Rudge) Baker e A. triangularis L.B. Sm. (A. subg. Macrochordion); A. distichantha Lem. (A. subg. Platyaechmea); A. recurvata (Klotzsch) L.B. Sm., A. gamosepala Wittm., A. cylindrata Lindm., A. coelestis (K. Koch) E. Morren, A. organensis Wawra e A. caudata Lindm. (A. subg. Ortgiesia). / Aechmea Ruiz & Pav. is the largest genus in the subfamily Bromelioideae Burnett (Bromeliaceae), with about 250 species distributed from Mexico to southern Argentina. Some species has complex taxonomic delimitations. Accordingly, this study presents a taxonomic analisys of Aechmea in the Paraná State, South Brazil, provinding identification key, species descriptions, illustrations and comments on the geographical distribution and conservation status. It was found twelve Aechmea species belonging to four subgenera: A. pectinata Baker, A. ornata Baker and A. nudicaulis (L.) Griseb. (A. subg. Pothuava); A. bromeliifolia (Rudge) Baker and A. triangularis L.B. Sm (A. subg. Macrochordion); A. distichantha Lem. (A. subg. Platyaechmea); A. recurvata (Klotzsch) L.B. Sm., A. gamosepala Wittm., A. cylindrata Lindm., A. coelestis (K. Koch) E. Morren, A. organensis Wawra, and A. caudata Lindm. (A. subg. Ortgiesia). Such species occur in two general patterns of geographic distribution: A. bromeliifolia, A. distichantha and A. recurvata can be found mainly on inland plateaus of Paraná, and all the other species are distributed from the coastal region to the west face of the Serra do Mar, except for A. nudicaulis also found in savanna relicts in the inlands of Paraná. Three species are endangered and two are vulnerable. Aechmea triangularis is citated for the first time for this state. Aechmea guaratubensis is proposed here as a new sinonim of A. recurvata.

Schinestsck, Camila Fonseca January 2009 (has links)
In South of Brazil there are forest-grassland mosaics under a climate suit for forest development. The forest expansion process has been observed mainly over grasslands excluded from cattle grazing and fire disturbances. Studies accessing patterns of woody vegetation linked to local environmental variables in grasslands areas subject to forest expansion constitute an important tool for vegetation dynamics evaluation considering environmental or disturbance management changes. Our purpose is access the current woody vegetation patterns and their potential linking with spatial and environmental variables on a grassland area excluded from management since 34 years ago. For this we surveyed woody species on 110 sampling units systematically plotted (halfway 100m) over areas that were originally mapped at 1985 as grasslands or shrublands. The sampling was stratified according to the inclusion criterion based on the stem diameter at the height of the soil (DHS). In the 6m ray sampling units all individuals with DHS5cm were surveyed and, inside them, three sub-plots of 1m of ray were used to sample proportional smaller individuals (DHS<5cm, but with more than 1m height). As environmental variables, the minimum distance of a forest area-source, and chemical and physical soil characteristics were considered for each sampling unit. The vegetation data and patterns were analyzed through phytosociological parameters and by exploratory analysis conjugating united and multivariate statistical techniques. The results revealed that grassland areas excluded of fire and grazing, as the one that it was studied, are suitable to spatial and temporal processes related to the distance of the source-forest area, showing a sucessional gradient. Close to the old forest border, the woody species communities are older and characterized by typical forest species. As the process stands back of the border the communities are in intermediate sucessional stage, where grassland shrubs gradually give up place to pioneer forest species, nurse species, which attract dispersers and create favorable conditions to the establishment of more forest species, allowing forest expansion process. In the most distant border areas grassland shrubs still prevail (e.g. Baccharis uncinella). They gradually suppress the grasses stratum because of their abundance and, in some way, facilitate the establishment of pioneer forest species. In those processes, the soil modifies towards conditions of larger accumulation of organic matter and larger fertility, more favorable to the establishment of forest species.

Oscilações Subinerciais na Plataforma Continental Sudeste: Estudos Numéricos / Subinertial Oscillations in the South Brazil Bight: Numerical Studies

Gregorio, Helvio Prevelato 12 March 2014 (has links)
The subinertial oscillations of the sea level in the South Brazil Bight (SBB) were studied using computational numerical models. The atmospheric fields used in the experiments were obtained from the NCEP-DOE AMIP II reanalysis and the DELFT-3D hydrodynamic model was used. The validation of the numerical experiments results was conducted by comparison with observations. Simulations were conducted for the summer 2003, for the winter 2004 and for other four scenarios with synthetic winds, simulating the cold fronts propagation (attained in this study). We verified that in the south (north) part of the SBB there were 3.6 (2.9) passing through during the winter and 3.4 (1.3) during summer. This difference between the south and north SBB regions showed that part of the events did not cover the whole SBB, being this more frequent during the summer. The cold front passages excited the propagation of subinertial sea level oscillations, trapped along the coastline, with approximately 2000 km of wavelength, 50 h of duration and 0.3 m of mean amplitude, both in the summer and in the winter. In the simulations in that the cold fronts did not pass through the whole SBB, sea level subinertial oscillations were also generated and propagated towards north with characteristics similar to the ones generated by the cold fronts that passed through the whole SBB. The subinertial oscillations in the north part of the SBB were better correlated with the wind component perpendicular to the coastline in the Paranaguá-Cananéia region and with the wind component parallel to the coastline in the Imbituba-São Francisco region. Forcing external to the SBB also excited subinertial oscillations, specially with periods higher than 7 days. Subinertial oscillations with periods lower (higher) than 7 (9) days were generated from the south boundary of the SBB (south of the SBB) to the Cananéia-Paranaguá region and contributed with approximately 40% (12%) of the subinertial variance. The subinertial oscillations analyzed had characteristics of Continental Shelf Waves.
