The effects of a postural and functional approach-based exercise program on the functional capacity and quality of life of chronic nonspecific low back pain patients

Vilela, Rodrigo Pinheiro 30 August 2006 (has links)
Desenho Experimental: Randomized Controlled Trial. / Background: Exercise programs for low back pain have been largely studied; however its effectiveness on this clinical condition is still controversial. Purpose: To assess the effects of a postural and functional approach-based exercise program on functional capacity, quality of life and pain condition of subjects with chronic low back pain (CLBP). Study Design: Randomized Controlled Trial. Patient Sample: 30 women with nonspecific CLBP. Outcome Measures: functional capacity (RMQ, Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire), quality of life (SF-36 subscales) and pain condition (NRS, Numerical Rating Scale). Methods: Patients were randomly assigned to control (CG) and treatment groups (TG). Patients from both groups were submitted to a three-week interval evaluation involving the completion of RMQ, SF-36 and NRS. TG was submitted to a six-week program of treatment addressing improvement of muscular recruitment for better postural maintenance and functional training. The CG was submitted to the same intervention program, after six weeks of no intervention. CG and TG were compared by applying t student test to the variables. Results: TG showed significant improvement in functional capacity (p= 0.0), quality of life (SF 36 subscales with p ~ 0.0 to 0.02) and pain condition (p= 0.0) compared to CG. The refferences remained significant when the results of intervention in the control group were added to the treatment group and compared to the control group baseline. Conclusions: The postural and functional approach-based exercise program showed efficient in improving the functional capacity, quality of life and pain condition of CLBP patients.

"The Market That Just Grew Up": How Eaton's Fashioned the Teenaged Consumer in Mid-twentieth-century Canada

Rollwagen, Katharine E 25 September 2012 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the emergence of the teenaged consumer as a market segment in Canada during the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. It challenges the notion that teenagers were of little interest to retailers until economics and demographics shaped the more numerous and prosperous post-war teenagers of the Baby Boom generation. Using evidence from corporate records and analysis of mail order catalogues, the study examines how department store retailer, the T. Eaton Company, Limited, began to cultivate a distinct and lucrative teenaged consumer in the 1930s, and thereby began shaping the teenaged consumer. The thesis contextualizes the case study of Eaton’s by exploring the varied expectations that adults had of young people at the time, using census records and magazines (Chatelaine, Canadian Home Journal and Mayfair) to explore concerns about young people’s transition to adulthood. It then focuses on how Eaton’s made a concerted and sustained effort to attract teenager customers to its catalogue and stores. Analysis of its semi-annual catalogue highlights the emergence of specialized clothing size ranges and styles, revealing that Eaton’s increasingly viewed the teenaged years as an important in-between life stage. Eaton’s also instituted teenage advisory councils to both glean market trends and provide a venue for what it considered education for novice consumers. Eaton’s presented consumption as a way to prepare young people for adult roles, legitimizing teenaged participation in the consumer marketplace and contributing to wider debates about when and how teenaged Canadians should reach maturity.

Departmentalization, decentralization and institutional development prospects of Mayotte.

Moussa, Asskani 09 June 2015 (has links)
The law of 31 December 1975 on self determination of Comores organises two consultations in Mayotte to ask its residents to declare maintenance in France and the second inviting mahorais to determine the status of Mayotte within the Republic. Mahorais confirm their donating and the law of 23 December 1976 create local authority to the provisional status on the basis of Article 72 of the constitution. The law of 11 July 2001 changes that status to establish « collectivité territoriale of Mayotte » by specifying the local system to enfoncement of laws and regulations by reducing the legal context of legislative specialty rule. This resolution is immediatly followed by a consultation of population of Mayotte the 29 March 2009 that must decide on the future of the island’s status. In the institutional plan, Mayotte find it self in a decisive moment from it hitory to next day of laws of 7 December 2010 that create the department status, Mayotte face to the overseas administration department’s challenges whose the aims need biggest collaboration between public powers and the Mahorais who are always vigilant to the evolution of their status. And this statutory transformation cause an other subsequent transfer of european status of PTOMVERS the one of an ultra-perpheral regional of the European Union in the horizon 2014. How does this dogma evolue ? That is the goal of this thesis.
