Inattention et diplomation : le rôle protecteur du sport durant l'adolescence

Le trouble déficitaire de l'attention/hyperactivité (TDA/H) est une problématique qui touche un nombre important de jeunes Québécois. Un lien entre le TDA/H, plus particulièrement la composante inattention, et l’apparition de difficultés scolaires a été démontré à maintes reprises. Quelques études suggèrent que la pratique d'activités sportives pourrait influencer le lien entre l'inattention et les difficultés scolaires et augmenter ainsi la probabilité de perséverer dans les études et, conséquemment, d’obtenir un diplôme scolaire. La présente étude vise à examiner le lien entre l’inattention durant l’enfance et l’obtention du diplôme d’études secondaires, puis à vérifier si la pratique d'activités sportives durant l’adolescence influence ce lien. À cette fin, 1043 jeunes ont été suivis de 6 à 23 ans. Une analyse de régression logistique binaire de type hiérarchique a été utilisée pour tester les hypothèses proposées. D’une part, et tel que prévu, une forte association négative entre l’inattention et la diplomation est observée. Cette association demeure satistiquement significative après contrôle de différentes variables (hyperactivité, symptômes intériorisés, Q.I. et l’adversité familiale). La relation inattention-diplomation n’est toutefois pas modérée par la pratique d’activités sportives. Cette étude souligne l’importance de mettre en place des mesures efficaces pour permettre aux jeunes souffrant d’inattention d’avoir de meilleures chances de diplômer. / Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a mental health issue that many youths have to deal with. It is of great concern as many authors report a link between ADHD and academic problems. It has been shown that inattention levels contribute more to academic problems than hyperactivity levels per se. On the other hand, the results of few studies suggest that sport activities could influence the link between inattention and academic problems. The aims of this study was to investigate the link between inattention at the end of childhood and high school graduation and to examine the hypothesis that sport activities during adolescence could moderate that relation. To this end, 1043 youths were followed from 6 to 23 years old, as part of the Montreal longitudinal and experimental stud. Binary logistic regression analysis was conduct to test the proposed hypotheses. The results indicate a strong association between inattention and high school graduation. This relation remained statistically significant after controlling for associated problems (hyperactivity, internalized symptoms), I.Q., and familial adversity. The relation inattention-high school graduation was not moderated by sport activities, however. This study emphasizes the importance of implementing measures that could help youths with inattention problems achieving academic success.

To do so, we focus on approaches that emphasize the psychological, philosophical and sociological aspects involved in this kind of experience, because we believe that by unveiling the existing entanglement between them, we can put in evidence the indissoluble relationship between the body, the emotions, the psyche and the environmental influences of various types, from natural human sensorial stimulus to promoted by media outlet culture of postmodern consumer. The uncompetitive sports experience serve us as a valuable example to explore various aspects of this dimension of creative living, such as the importance of the body in the subjective life, more specifically, the role of sensorial and motor experiences in building ultimate meanings, for the personality constitution, as well as singling out the experience of time and of itself.

It lists local sports clubs which are available to children and examines their history and the quality of the services they offer. A survey was conducted in order to determine the percentage of older school-age students actively engaging in sports, which sports club they chose, and why. The students who don't participate in sport activities were questioned on whether it's because of an absence of a preferred sport in Příbram or due to other reasons, e.g. lack of interest. This thesis focuses on the motivation of pupils attending primary school towards the sports activities. The work is divided into theoretical and research section. The theoretical part explains the concepts related to the thesis itself, especially the concepts of leisure activities, physical activities and the concept of sport. Furthermore, the theoretical part is focused on the developmental stages of personalities, the concepts of motivations, incentives, needs, rewards and motivational structure of sportsmen. The aim of the research part of this thesis was to determine the current state of motivation of the pupils attending primary school towards the sports activities. To accomplish this aim, a method of questionnaire survey was used. The research section also deals with the relationships among the monitored variables in the survey. The results of this work provide new information about motivation of children towards sports activities.

PERCEIVED MEANINGFUL LEISURE TIME AND EDUCATION : A sub-study of actions for sustainable education and health among youth

A higher level of education increases the chances of getting work, therefore, this can improve the socio-economic status and social position. Besides, higher education ensures improved health by providing fundamental health knowledge. Completing high school even with low grades increases the chances of getting a job, whereas, unemployment is three times more common among the students with incomplete high school education which leads to low socio-economic status and an unhealthy lifestyle in the long run. This study aims to gain a better understanding of high school students’ perspectives living in Västerås and Eskilstuna regarding meaningful leisure activities and perceived quality of education from their school which may lead to complete high school education. This study will also investigate whether there are any associations between membership in sports and perceived quality of education by adolescents at different gender and socio-economic levels. A cross-sectional study design was applied in this study. The result shows there are many available outdoor activities where the adolescents live to spend their leisure, among them parks are the most reported (314, 58%); walking and cycling paths, running track, outdoor gym and soccer field are the second most reported available opportunity (309, 56.8%) followed by the free sports activities (295, 55.9%). The most popular activities to adolescents are free sports (71, 13.2%) together with homework help at school (70, 13.1%); and more adolescents have membership in sports associations compared to other associations. Also, the study finds that adolescents who either have membership in sports or not do not make any change to the perceived quality of education by students whether they get a very good education, good education, and less than good education in high schools at different gender and self-reported socioeconomic levels. / ACTION: Actions for sustainable education and health among youth
