Structural performance of staircase post connection systems under monotonic and reversed cyclic static loads

Spinelli Correa, Laurice Mara 09 August 2019 (has links)
The objective of this research is to develop the relationship between starting steps and post newels attached by different connection systems. This research focuses on analyzing solid and box posts connection performance under monotonic and reversed cyclic loads by following European standards EN 26891:1991 and EN 12512:2001, respectively. Moment carrying capacity, stiffness, energy dissipation, and ductility were calculated. Four connection systems were tested, two for solid posts (Sure-Tite™ and Fas-N-Fast™) and two for box posts (L-brackets and wood block with lag bolt). Connections had higher load capacity during the monotonic loading protocol than in the reversed cyclic loading protocol. No strength difference was observed between the solid post connection systems. However, Sure-Tite™ presented a more ductile behavior. For box posts, the L-brackets connection system was superior in strength, while the wood block with lag bolt system had a greater ductile behavior.

Art Center

Li, Ting 29 June 2015 (has links)
For any artist, imagination is a powerful and necessary instrument for everyday creation. It is like a magical engine that drives the artist forward. But what is imagination? How do we keep this engine running nonstop? According to the Italian philosopher Giovan Battista Vico, imagination is nothing but extended or compounded memory, imagination is nothing but the springing up of reminiscences, and ingenuity or invention is nothing but the working over of what is remembered. So we can easily understand that people create or invent things out of what they have seen, what they have experienced, and what they have engaged with their own bodies. In my thesis, I'm not competing with the artists in imagination or creation, but I'm trying to offer them this architectural environment that would be transfigured into memory through senses. The artists living and working in this tower building are encouraged to move vertically through stairways and vertically aligned public spaces. By engaging the body and senses in this vertical movement, the artists would find their way out of the urban canyon to the sky of imagination. They would also be able to live lightly above the bustling world of reality. / Master of Architecture

Expanding the market of biomaterials

Quin, Franklin, Jr. 12 May 2023 (has links) (PDF)
Biomaterials such as wood and bamboo are in high demand as a building material with the push for building with green technology. The wood product industry accounts for approximately 4% of the total U.S. manufacturing GDP (Gross Domestic Product), which is more than $100 billion. The industry supports over 752,000 full-time equivalent jobs, most of which are in rural areas where employment opportunities are limited. The estimated global market value of bamboo is estimated to be $60 billion annually. This research will explore the use of wood and bamboo in different end use products. The objectives of this research will 1) evaluate the behavior of two single bolt connections in the post-to-rail joint in a hardwood stairway system; 2) the potential of post-treating pre-fabricated cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels with two different copper based preservative treatments; and 3) estimated design values for a commercially sourced bolt laminated bamboo industrial mat. To accomplish these objectives, this dissertation is divided into five sections: 1) Introduction, 2) Structural performance of the post-to-rail connectors in a hardwood stairway handrail, 3) Development of preservative-treated cross-laminated timber: effects of panel layup and thickness on bonding performance and durability when treated with copper-azole (CA-C) and micronized copper-azole (MCA), 4) Strength and stiffness of 3-ply industrial bamboo matting, 5) Conclusion.

Nosná ŽB konstrukce vícepodlažního objektu / Load-bearing reinforced concrete structure of a multi-storey building

Fikejsová, Kristýna January 2022 (has links)
This subject of this thesis is an apartment building with a garage in basement and three levels located in the part of Praha called Stodůlky. In this thesis are solved certain parts of reinforced concrete structures: foundation slab, slab above basement floor, column, stairway, cantilever slab and wall. Static behaviour of the object is analysed in the programme SCIA Engineer. The drawings of the reinforcements are made in the system programme AutoCAD and the superstructural programme for AutoCAD Recoc

Hotel / Hotel

Masaryk, Andrej Unknown Date (has links)
The diploma thesis is the project of the hotel in Gbely. The Hotel is project as a four–storeyed house with one basement. The building is designed as object with twelve flats. The house has flat roof. The above grade masonry is created by Ytong system. The bearing walls in basement is created by Prefa BTB system, interior grade masonry is created by Ytong system. The partitions are created by Ytong system too. The main building entrance is situated to north–east side. In the basement, there are boiler room, alternative energy source, facilities for employees, laundry room, ironing room, air conditioning engine room and storage units. The first elevated floor is content of main entrance to the object, stairway, shop, reception, restaurant and bar, kitchen and elevators. On the second floor, there are eight guest rooms, background for cleaner, multimedia room. On the third there are ten guest rooms and multimedia room. On the fourth floor there are eight guest rooms, multimedia room and terrace with access to the roof. The foreside of exterior walls will be white with colored stripes. General architectonical and structural solution created harmony with neighbourhood. The project contains technical, thermal and acoustic appraisal forms. Parking is located in the hotel area.

Bazén / Swimming pool

Sívek, Zdeněk January 2013 (has links)
This thesis covers brand new detached indoor pool with one underground and one above ground floor, which is designed for a maximum capacity of 120 people, with two swimming pools, a children's swimming. The building is designed with a flat rectangular roof insulation. Envelopes are ventilated, insulated, bearing part consists of reinforced concrete. The pool hall make up the majority of the building envelope glass facade. Facilities for employees is located on the first basement floor. All technologies for cleaning pool water, air conditioning, boiler, facilities for maintenance are located on the first basement floor. Chimneys are stainless steel, placed on the outside of the building. The finish floors are ceramic tile. Pool bath is designed as a so-called white bathtub. The supporting structure of the ceiling above the pool hall beams are post-tensioned concrete.

Nosná železobetonová konstrukce prodejny a skladu sportovního vybavení / Reinforced concrete structure

Hasala, Ivo January 2014 (has links)
In my master´s thesis I deal with static solution of basic elements of reinforced concrete building with two abovegrounds and one underground storey. The selected elements are piles, roof board D1, column S1 in 2NP, stairway SK1 in 1NP, beam Z1 in 2NP, wall ST6 in 2NP, exterier board near the steel stairway. The component of my master´s thesis is comparing of my own calculation of moments and computer calculation of roof board D1. In the last point I compare a behavior of the structure with solid support and with piles.
