I arbetet, har en jämförelse mellan STCW-95 och Högskoleförordningen genomförts, samt en intervjustudie av aktiva sjöbefäl för att undersöka om det finns en dalande tendens i nyutexaminerade fartygsbefäls kompetensnivåer. Därtill syftar arbetet till att söka förståelse för vad en styrman bör ha för kompetens för att klara sina arbetsuppgifter. / This thesis is a comparison of the STCW-95 and Swedish Higher Education Ordinance, furthermore it contains an interview study of active officers that strives to investigate whether there is a declining trend in skill levels of newly graduated ship officers. In addition, this thesis tries to develop an understanding for what skills an officer should have to cope with their line of work.
