Det här är en undersökning om studenters intresse för en områdesfördjupning på sjökaptensprogrammet på Kalmar Sjöfartshögskola. Syftet var att undersöka intresset hos studenterna kring att introducera valbara kurser om 7,5 högskolepoäng i programmets senare del. Den allmänna uppfattningen inom svensk sjöfart är att sjökaptensprogrammet på Kalmar Sjöfartshögskola är en bred utbildning.  Utbildningen erbjuder inga valbara kurser eller inriktningar även om arbetet som styrman idag blir mer och mer specialiserat. Studien genomfördes genom intervjuer med två studenter som gick sista året 2013 och tre verksamma styrmän som tagit examen år 2012. Alla intervjuade respondenter hade läst eller läste vid intervjutillfället på Sjökaptensprogrammet på Kalmar Sjöfartshögskola. Studien visade på en önskan hos respondenterna vad gällde ökad valbarhet i utbildningen, men samtidigt en ovilja att kompromissa utbildningens bredd. Respondenterna underströk vikten av möjligheten att få läsa CCM och DP-Basic, dels för en förbättrad konkurrenskraft på en ansträngd arbetsmarknad och dels för att de kurserna ofta krävs inom den arbetsmarknadssektor som ett stort antal studenter söker sig till. / This is a survey of students' interest in an area specialization in the Nautical Science program at Kalmar Maritime Academy. The aim was to investigate the interest within the student community regarding introducing elective courses of 7.5 credits in the second half of the program. The general opinion in Swedish shipping is that the nautical science program at Kalmar Maritime Academy is a broad education. The program has no elective courses and specializations available; this at a time when the work as an officer is becoming more and more specialized. The study was conducted through interviews with two final year students of 2013 and three active officers who graduated in 2012. All respondents who were interviewed had studied or were studying at the time of the interview at the Nautical Science program at Kalmar Maritime Academy. The study showed a desire among the respondents regarding increased eligibility in the program but also unwillingness to compromise the width of the education. The respondents emphasized the importance of having the possibility to study CCM and DP-Basic, partly for an improved competitiveness in a strained labor market and partly due to fact that these courses are often required within the employment sector to which a large number of students will approach.

I arbetet, har en jämförelse mellan STCW-95 och Högskoleförordningen genomförts, samt en intervjustudie av aktiva sjöbefäl för att undersöka om det finns en dalande tendens i nyutexaminerade fartygsbefäls kompetensnivåer. Därtill syftar arbetet till att söka förståelse för vad en styrman bör ha för kompetens för att klara sina arbetsuppgifter. / This thesis is a comparison of the STCW-95 and Swedish Higher Education Ordinance, furthermore it contains an interview study of active officers that strives to investigate whether there is a declining trend in skill levels of newly graduated ship officers. In addition, this thesis tries to develop an understanding for what skills an officer should have to cope with their line of work.

Denna studie berör de regler och reglementen som behandlar ett passagerarfartygs utkik, som återfinns i Transportstyrelsens författningssamling TSFS 2012:67. Dessa regler är framtagna av Transportstyrelsen och ska gälla för samtliga fartyg som seglar under svensk flagg. Syftet med undersökningen är att ta reda på hur fartygens seniorbefäl tolkar och förhåller sig till ovannämnda regler. Undersökningen har genomförts genom intervjuer ombord på fem passagerarfartyg. Respektive intervju utfördes med ett seniorbefäl ombord på vardera fartyg. För att få en så rättvisande studie som möjligt har intervjuer också utförts med personal på Transportstyrelsen. Frågorna som ställdes ombord på fartygen speglar de svar vi fått under mötet med personal på myndigheten. Resultatet av vad vi kom fram till påvisar att medvetenheten är hög vad gäller föreskrifterna. Undersökningen visar också att avsteg görs från att följa reglerna, normalt sett efter bedömning om huruvida det är säkert eller inte. Rutiner ombord är ofta utformade efter två parametrar, till största delen med hänsyn tagen till regelverket men också för att arbetet ombord ska löpa så smidigt som möjligt. De dagliga arbetsrutinerna anses inte få styras av regelverket så till den grad att befälhavarna upplever regelverket som ett hinder. Sammanfattningsvis påvisar studien att kombinationen av att tillgodose samtliga krav vad gäller utkik, samt utföra ett arbete som löper så smidigt som möjligt är svårt att uppfylla. / This study treats the rules and regulations which concern a passenger vessel look out, given in the regulations TSFS 2012:67. These regulations are imposed by the Swedish transport agency and cover all vessels sailing under the Swedish flag. The purpose of this study is to find out how senior deck officers on board Swedish passenger vessels interpret and apply the above mentioned regulation. We have completed this study through interviews on board five passenger vessels which are sailing under the Swedish flag. To receive a fair study the Swedish transport agency has been interviewed, and the questions asked on board the vessels have been designed with the information received by the transport agency in mind.  The result of the study shows that the knowledge about the regulations is high among the senior deck officers. Despite this, the study also shows that deviations from these regulations sometimes are made, usually after a risk assessment made by the officer on watch or the captain. The routines on board are formed mostly with the regulations in mind but the routines are also formed in such way that the work on board can proceed as smooth as possible. The daily work routines are not considered to be governed by the regulations to the extent that the masters perceive the regulations as an obstacle. In conclusion, the study shows that the combination of meeting all the requirements in the terms of look out and do a job which runs as smoothly as possible is hard to meet.

Syftet med studien var att beskriva hur sjukvårdsansvariga styrmän ser på trygghet och säkerhet vid vårdande av sjuk eller skadad besättningsmedlem eller passagerare ombord på svenskflaggade fartyg. Metodvalet utgjordes av semistrukturerade intervjuer i studien där varje intervju analyserades sedan enligt en kvalitativ metod. Resultatet visar på att sjukvårdsansvariga styrmän generellt känner att de som individer påverkar patientsäkerhetskulturen ombord i både positiv och negativ bemärkelse som till exempel att de känner att den utbildning som finns idag inte räcker till. Resultatet visar även att styrmän önskar sig mer utbildning inom området, framförallt i sådant som blir mer och mer vanliga folksjukdomar som till exempel stroke. Det visar även kulturella skillnader i omvårdnad och den generella synen på sjukvård, som till exempel synen på läkemedel, ombord på fartyg med mångkulturella besättningar och att detta påverkar patientsäkerheten ombord / The study was conducted to see how officers responsible for the medical care onboard looks at the safety culture and the safety climate onboard ships sailing the Swedish flag. The study was done by a semi structure interview, each interview was analyzed according to a qualitative method. The result shows that the medical responsible officers generally feel that they personally affect patient safety culture onboard both positive and negative for example that the officers feel that the education provide for them today is not enough. The result shows that officers wish for more education, especially in areas that has become national diseases. It also shows on cultural difference in both nursing and how we look at medical care, for example how we look at medicine, overall onboard ships with multicultural crew and how this can affect the safety of the patient onboard.

I en sjöfartsindustri som ständigt utvecklas gäller det att styrmännen som arbetar ombord har den kompetens som krävs för att utföra arbetet. Syftet med denna studie är att ta reda på hur kompetenta nyutexaminerade styrmän är under sin första törn samt hur utbildningen och arbetsgivarna kan underlätta. Detta har undersökts genom kvalitativa semi-strukturerade intervjuer med sex nyutexaminerade styrmän som gjort sin första törn som styrman ombord på ett gas-, råolje- eller produkttankfartyg. Resultatet från intervjuerna visar att styrmännen var positivt överraskade över sina förkunskaper från utbildningen. De upplevde en kompetens i bryggrutiner och navigering medan lasthantering var ett område som de kände viss osäkerhet och nervositet inför. Vikten av arbetsgivarens roll i en nyutexaminerad styrmans första tid i yrket visades också vara viktig för utveckling av kompetens genom överlapp. / In a constantly evolving maritime industry, it is crucial that the nautical officers working onboard possess the necessary competence to carry out their duties. The purpose of this study is to investigate the level of competence among newly graduated nautical officers during their first contract, and how education and employers can facilitate this process. This was investigated through qualitative semi-structured interviews with six newly graduated nautical officers who had completed their first contract as a nautical officer onboard a gas-, crude oil-, or product tanker. The results of the interviews shows that the nautical officers were positively surprised by their prior knowledge obtained during their education. They felt competent in bridge routines and navigation, while cargo handling was an area where they experienced some uncertainty and nervousness. The importance of the employer's role during a newly graduated nautical officer's first period in the profession was also shown to be crucial for the development of competence through overlap.
