Esse resultado contraria a alegada existência de um /R/ característico do falar campineiro / Abstract: This sociolinguistic work investigates the variation and social attitudes related to a linguistic segment of Campinas native accent: /R/ in syllabic coda position. The hypothesis that guided this research is that the rhotic is in a more advanced state than in other cities in the countryside of São Paulo as regards its attenuation, which causes it to be either vocalized or erased. This attenuation would be the responsible for the hearsay impression of the informants who believe to utter a variant of /R/ assessed as "intermediate" and seen as proper to Campinas native accent. We depart from this assumption in order to analyze the process of linguistic variation of /R/ in final and medial syllable coda position that appears to occur in Campinas, and to investigate linguistic attitudes (Schlieben-Lange, 1993). Our attempt is to describe the stereotype and attitudes related to the linguistic variety at stake. The corpus comprises data collected from twelve native inhabitants of Campinas. The informants were interviewed and had to read words and sentences. We undertook auditoryand acoustic analyses of the rhotic so as to verify which varieties co-occur in syllable coda position. Theses analyses could provide useful information to understand the accounts of the informants. The results evidence that there is linguistic variation of the rhotic and that the most frequent variety is caipira /R/. This finding contradicts the alleged existence of a typical Campinas /R/ / Doutorado / Linguistica / Doutor em Linguística

Análise do discurso humorístico = condições de produção das piadas de Joãozinho = Analysis of speech humorous : conditions of production of little Johnny jokes / Analysis of speech humorous : conditions of production of little Johnny jokes

Ávila, Fernanda Góes de Oliveira, 1985- 20 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Sírio Possenti / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Estudos da Linguagem / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-20T21:38:07Z (GMT). The aim of this paper is the analysis of a corpus consisting of a set of "little Johnny jokes". In this material, we want to evaluate, based on theoretical Discourse Analysis French, what are their conditions of production, seeking to understand the historical and social reasons and stereotypical male representation in this material. The purpose of this analysis is to examine the ideology present in sexist in little Johnny jokes: the construction of masculinity from the transgression of social rules. What seem relevant in this theme are the following questions: "Why does humor about the relationship between teacher and student?"; "Why do these boys are made jokes and bad students?"; "Why this discourse the teacher is ridiculed?"; "To what extent the talk of the jokes is 'truth'?"; "What are the linguistic triggers that make these issues a laughingstock?". In an attempt to elucidate the issues outlined above, our theoretical framework is mainly the literature on mood (Freud, 1905; Bergson, 1900; Propp, 1976; Raskin, 1985; Bakhtin, 1987, and Possenti, 1998), about the school (Carvalho 2001, 2003 and Menandro e Souza, 2010) and especially the literature on men (Nolasco, 1993, 1995; Bourdieu, 2009). And the foundations of analysis are supported by the French Discourse Analysis, especially with regard to concepts related to the production conditions, stereotypy, ethos, simulacrum, discursive memory. The starting point for analysis is to understand the functioning of the humorous speech, and from that to deconstruct the dominant social imaginary that little Johnny jokes are naively produced by children for the purpose of causing terror in adults. Subsequently, we try to show that little Johnny jokes are made under the pretense of voices and children are the result of historical conditions of competition in respect of pupils with the school and the fruit of the boys attempt to (re) assert their masculinity. Our objective, therefore, evident that from this tension between student and school and (bad) conduct of the boys is created stereotypes that are subsequently put into circulation by the humorous speech by means of a technical language / Mestrado / Linguistica / Mestre em Linguística

Effects of Stereotype Threat on Females in Math and Science Fields: An Investigation of Possible Mediators and Moderators of the Threat-Performance Relationship

Hardee Bailey, Alice Anne 23 November 2004 (has links)
A mediated-moderation model of stereotype threat was tested. Domain identification and motivational orientation were treated as moderators of the threat effect on self-efficacy and cognitive interference, which were hypothesized to mediate the threat-performance relationship. Participants were primed with stereotype-consistent, stereotype inconsistent, or no information regarding sex differences in mathematical abilities. While significant performance differences were found between males and females in the control and threat conditions, no differences were found in a female benefit condition that described a math task as favoring females. Significant sex differences in domain identity and self-efficacy were also found. Post-hoc analyses revealed that domain identification and self-efficacy explained significant amounts of variance in sex differences in math performance. The results provide general support for Steeles theory of stereotype threat and resulting disidentification with the task domain among targets.
