Young Girl och Strange Girl i den pharmacopornografiska eran : Om techno-flickan hos Tiqqun och BoydBäärnhielm Pousette, Sophie January 2018 (has links)
In this paper I undertake an investigation of the meaning of sexual difference for Tiqqun’s theory of the Young Girl, which describes a commodified subjectivity in the neoliberal age. Tiqqun’s claim, that Young Girl is not to be understood as a gendered concept but rather as a détournement of the capitalist girl archetype, is put in relation to Jennifer Boyds development of their theory. According to Boyd’s interpretation of Young Girl as an embodied, gendered subjectivity, she can resist the control of the Empire by transforming from non-agency to pure agency, the latter being the state Boyd coins Strange Girl. In order to understand the radical notions that seem to follow from interpreting Young Girl in terms of gendered subjectivity, I apply Paul B. Preciado’s theory of techno-gender in the pharmacopornographic era to Tiqqun and Boyd respectively. Preciado’s theory offers a way of addressing Young Girl as a specific embodied subject and holder of a potentia gaudendi, an orgasmic potential that is either exploiting or being exploited depending on the bearers techno-gender. To conclude, this essay offers up a re-reading of Young Girl as being the exploited techno femininity that transform, via molecular gender and sex-hacking, into Strange Girl and orgasmic agency. Thereby she performs an actual, and not symbolical, resistance against the biopower performed by the Empire. / <p>Presenterad vid Seminariet i feministisk kontinentalfilosofi i Stockholm, 12 oktober 2018</p><p></p><p></p>

Small Observations Around The Storage SiteGulde, Stellan January 2022 (has links)
The state of the unfinished is something I am fascinated by, and in the course of this engagement my ambition has been to examine how an understanding of the unfinished can contribute to a re-evaluation in both planning habits and in our interaction with existing buildings. For example, can it help challenge our conception of aesthetics and completeness? At the storage site, I also became curious to investigate how we as a community store, what we store and how we can build connections around storage facilities. To study and also emphasize the historic layering of a site, I implemented the yellow/red method of drawing. Yellow represents the past, black the present and red is the future. Lastly, I have in debt studied the spaces through occasions. The occasions (a definition originally coined by Jan De Vylder) are born out of small observations that can give a decisive turn to the design. It’s a moment in which the thresholds between the existing and the new blurs. In that moment when a confrontation between the new and the old occurs, I believe permanence can emerge. The occasions I have depicted are often small acts of greater significance, perhaps neither more nor less than the mere rearrangement of what already existed. Can amplifying those small observations from a storage site generate a collective interest, consideration and appreciation for our built environment and its maintenance?

The Effect of Sex-Accessory Gland Removal on Strange-Male-Induced Pregnancy Disruptions in MiceZacharias, Rosemary 08 1900 (has links)
<p> Early pregnancy in mammals can be disrupted by numerous stimuli. In particular, exposure to males which did not sire the litter disrupts early pregnancy in previously inseminated female mice. This is known as the Bruce effect. Evidence suggests that this effect is mediated by chemical emissions (pheromones) from the males. Castration of the males eliminates the effect whereas testosterone replacement restores it. This has suggested that
androgen-dependent male accessory glands might be responsible. In particular, the preputial, vesicular and coagulating glands seem likely candidates for subserving the Bruce effect since they have been implicated in a variety of social behaviors.</p> <p> In these experiments, inseminated females were each housed below either 1) two males which had undergone preputial gland removal or, 2) two males which had undergone vesicular-coagulating gland removal or, 3) two males which had undergone preputial, vesicular and coagulating gland removal or 4) two males which had undergone sham surgery. In each case, males which had undergone gland removal disrupted pregnancy in inseminated females to the same extent as did intact males. Histology showed no regeneration of the glands. These results suggest that none of these major androgen-dependent male accessory glands is responsible for pheromonal emissions involved in the Bruce effect.</p> / Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)

Parity-Violating Elastic Electron Nucleon Scattering: Measurement of the Strange Quark Content of the Nucleon and Towards a Measurement of the Weak Charge of the ProtonMammei, Juliette Mae 04 June 2010 (has links)
The experiments discussed in this thesis exploit parity violation in elastic electron proton scattering in order to measure properties of the nucleon. Both experiments make use of the high quality, highly polarized electron beam available at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. Qweak will measure the weak mixing angle, sin²θW, via a measurement of the weak charge of the proton, at a four-momentum transfer, Q² ~ 0.026 GeV²/c². The precision of this measurement gives Qweak access to new physics at the scale of 2.3 TeV, making it a test of the standard model. The G⁰ experimental program provides the fully separated contributions of the strange quark to the charge and magnetization distributions of the nucleon at two different values of four-momentum transfer, Q² ~ 0.22 and 0.63 GeV²/c². The measurement of the strange quark content of the proton in the G⁰ experimental program and other parity-violating electron scattering experiments provides a measurement of the hadronic contribution to the asymmetry in Qweak.
In addition, G⁰ was able to measure the parity-conserving beam normal single spin asymmetries that provide a measurement of the imaginary part of two photon exchange. The measurement of this asymmetry is necessary to understand the systematic contribution to measurements of parity-violating asymmetries, but it is also an important physics result. Recent theoretical work has shown that higher order radiative effects, such as two photon exchange, may be able to explain discrepancies between experiments which measure the ratio of the electric and magnetic form factors of the proton. The measurement of the transverse or beam normal single spin asymmetries provides a benchmark for theories that estimate the size of radiative corrections that are important for precision electroweak scattering experiments such as those described in this thesis. The results of the measurement of the transverse asymmetries at backward angles in G⁰ are presented at the two values of Q² ~ 0.22 and 0.63 GeV²/c² for hydrogen. Results for deuterium, which can provide the first measurements of the beam normal single spin asymmetries on the neutron, are also presented. / Ph. D.

Soluções semi-analíticas para objetos astrofísicos compactos / Semi-analytical solutions for a compact astrophysical objectAvellar, Marcio Guilherme Bronzato de 12 March 2008 (has links)
In this dissertation we study compact stars constituted by a stable form of ultra-relativistic quark-gluon plasma, the strange matter, with a small fraction of electrons to keep the neutrality of charge. We address here reasonable mathematical solutions that describe with simplicity and agility some properties of these stars, beginning by the important mass-radius relationship. A gaussian energy density profile was chosen as the starting point for the construction of a mathematical solution for this problem and the motivations for this choice was presented. We prove that this profile is not an exact solution for the Einstein Field Equations and an approximated solution is presented. Following, the previous known solutions of Tolman IV and Buchdahl I were used to model a strange star, based on the work of Alcock, Farhi and Olinto. We discuss the rediscovery of the exact solution of Finch and Skea and also the exact solution for a quark star by Komathiraj and Maharaj, constructed to a problem slightly different, that includes the existence of an electric field. We conclude this work comparing the numerical results of Alcock, Farhi and Olinto with the approximated solution here developed, presenting the range of validity of this solution. Furthermore, comparisons were made between the different exact solutions and the features displayed by each one and we discuss which solution must be used when one have in mind which features of the strange star one wants to study. The existent ways for solving the Einstein Equations when we want to model a compact star are discussed and we point out the problems that one will find in following each way. At last, we make a relation between the mass-radius relationship and the differentiation of the many types of compact objects that could, in principle, exist.
