Accelerating Genomic Sequence Alignment using High Performance Reconfigurable Computers

McMahon, Peter 01 January 2008 (has links)
Recongurable computing technology has progressed to a stage where it is now possible to achieve orders of magnitude performance and power eciency gains over conventional computer architectures for a subset of high performance computing applications. In this thesis, we investigate the potential of recongurable computers to accelerate genomic sequence alignment specically for genome sequencing applications. We present a highly optimized implementation of a parallel sequence alignment algorithm for the Berkeley Emulation Engine (BEE2) recongurable computer, allowing a single BEE2 to align simultaneously hundreds of sequences. For each recongurable processor (FPGA), we demonstrate a 61X speedup versus a state-of-the-art implementation on a modern conventional CPU core, and a 56X improvement in performance-per-Watt. We also show that our implementation is highly scalable and we provide performance results from a cluster implementation using 32 FPGAs. We conclude that recongurable computers provide an excellent platform on which to run sequence alignment, and that clusters of recongurable computers will be able to cope far more easily with the vast quantities of data produced by new ultra-high-throughput sequencers.

Evaluating the implementation of an electronic medical record system for a health organization-affiliated family practice clinic

Forland, Lindsay 30 August 2007 (has links)
The use of technology in primary care settings is not a new concept; the benefits of implementing electronic medical records are stated throughout the literature related to gains in productivity, patient safety, and adherence to clinical guidelines. Yet, despite these benefits, the adoption of electronic medical records in primary care settings, in Canada remains low. This thesis research, a descriptive case study, is an in-depth look at the process of electronic medical record implementation for a family practice group in an attempt to understand the process, technology, and the challenges associated with such as transition. This research uses two well-known models as its framework: the Delone and McLean IS Success Model and John Kotter’s Eight Stages of Organizational Change. The use of the two models together is unique; their use together provides a broader look at the aspects of implementation including the environment in which it is being conducted.

Core banking systémy / Core banking systems

Chadima, Antonín January 2017 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the topic of core banking systems. The main objective is to analyze the implementation of the SEPA payments into the payment module. The theoretical part defines the concept of core banking systems and its history. It also compares conventional approaches to core banking systems with Islamic ones. The theoretical part also includes chapters about implementation approaches, the most common challenges in implementation and architecture of core banking systems. Next part of thesis is about the basic modules of core banking systems. The practical part is about the analysis of requirements on core banking systems. Especially the requirements that are mandatory from legislation perspective. These are SEPA payments, PSD2 and instant payments. Gap analysis is used as the main method. We chose SEPA payment implemetation as the requirement that we will analyse. There are two possible solutions that can be used. The first one is the customization of the current payment module and the second solution is implementation of the payment hub. The conclusion of the thesis focuses on the best solution for each of two types of bank institutions. The main acquisition of the thesis is the recommended solution for two different types of banks. And second of all, the conclusions which was founded in this thesis should be used for another requirements such as PSD2, the introduction of instant payments, and more.

The challenge of implementing TPS in the Czech Republic: A study in cross-cultural management / Výzva implementace TPS v České republice: studie v mezikulturním managementu

Koža, Michal January 2014 (has links)
This master's thesis analyzes the possibilities of implementation of Toyota Production System within Japanese subsidiaries in Czech Republic. It explores the fit between the cultural values of Czech and Japanese management and the values incorporated in the Toyota Production System. In order to conduct the study, 79 companies were contacted, and survey responses from a total of 108 Czech and Japanese employees were collected. Data from the survey show that both Czech and Japanese employees have similar values related to work and neither job satisfaction nor number of conflicts is connected with TPS training. In the conclusion, areas for further research and more detailed elaboration are identified and presented.

Výběr a implementace informačního systému / Information System Selection

Kovařík, David January 2017 (has links)
The thesis focuses on the selection process and the implementation of the new information system (hereinafter "IS") in a manufacturing company. This is achieved by detailing characteristics of all individual phases and steps of the selection and implementation processes in the context of one appointed company. The characteristics analysis identifies key factors which need to be managed well by the company in order to accomplish a desired outcome. The thesis also includes a generic and coherent framework and it concludes with a comprehensive proposal which can be used as a tool for a successful selection and implementation of the new IS.

Návrh dílčí části informačního systému pro vybraný subjekt / Proposal of Part of Information System for Selected Subject

Liebscher, Tomáš January 2017 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the analysis and selection of a suitable information system for selected company. The information system is selected according to the company's requirements and helps to streamline business processes. I will analyze individual information systems on the market and select the one that most closely matches the set criteria and requirements. I will then propose how to implement e-commerce and how to communicate with each other. At the end, an economic assessment is made.

Výběr a implementace informačního systému / Information System Selection

Čelková, Zuzana January 2018 (has links)
This thesis deals with the selection of an information system for Webnode, which offers on-line services to its customers. The company wants to expand its services and wants to give customers the ability to manage their websites through a mobile application. The thesis deals with the selection of an information system for creating a mobile application. The first chapter of the thesis explains the theoretical starting points that we will use in the practical part. The following chapter introduces the company and its vision, mission, and marketing mix and offers detailed analysis of the company, using a variety of methods. The third chapter deals with problem solving, information system selection and its implementation. At the end of the thesis, the benefits of the solution are summarized.

Monitorování výrobních zařízení / Monitoring of production facilities

Borsuk, Adam January 2020 (has links)
The aim of the diploma thesis is to study the possibilities of creating a monitoring system for older production facilities already in operation. Select the necessary components for the nature of the equipment to create a system that is able to capture and provide information about activities on the equipment. The second goal is to design a suitable communication model for clear information about the operation, sending and storing data. The third goal is to analyze the dual-core ESP32 microprocessor against its predecessors in the role of system control unit.
