Association of the blood biochemical index with CYP2E1 5¡¦flanking region Rsa I/Pst I gene polymorphism and alcohol consumption habit in Southern Taiwan aborigines

Kuo, Chia-ling 24 August 2005 (has links)
The microsomal ethanol oxidizing system (MEOS) is involved in metabolism of alcohol in the liver, the major component of MEOS is cytochrome P4502E1 (CYP2E1). CYP2E1 gene polymorphisms that alter its functions may be associated with alcohol susceptibility in individual. A RsaI/PstI restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) has been reported in the 5¡¦-flanking region of CYP2E1 gene. The rare mutant allele (c2 allele) that lacks the Rsa I restriction site, but can cut with Pst I has been found to be associated with higher transcriptional activity, mRNA expression, protein levels and enzyme activity than the commom wild type-c1 allele. CYP2E1-dependent oxidative stress on the pathogenesis of alcohol-induced liver injury. The recent epidemiological studies have point out that there are a high prevalence of alcohol consumption in aborigines of Southern taiwan. Dr.Bosron presented an drinks wine the behavior receives the environment and the genetic factor influence, this kind of difference also receives the racial influence to be really big. This study focus on the aborigines with high alcohol drinks rate to examine the possible effect on drinks habit and gene polymorphism of CYP2E1 RsaI/PstI to blood biochemicial index. The experimental result found that male aborigines drinker in blood pressure, triglyceride, HDL cholesterol, uric acid and AST value more than male aborigines non-drinker. However the values are in T.cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, creatinine less than non-drinker. The female aborigines drinker in blood pressure, HDL cholesterol, uric acid, creatinine and AST value more than female aborigines non-drinker. However the values are in T.cholesterol and LDL cholesterol less than non-drinker. Nevertheless, male aborigines drinker and female aborigines non-drinker did not achieved diversity of statistical in function of CYP2E1 gene polymorphism to biochemical index. Male aborigines non-drinkers have c1/c2+c2/c2 in CYP2E1 gene polymorphism compare to c1/c1 also have higher WHR (0.93¡Ó0.05 vs. 0.90¡Ó0.06, p = 0.035) and ALT (30.0¡Ó22.0 IU/L vs. 21.5¡Ó11.0 IU/L , p = 0.012). To summary, male aborigines who have c2 allele in CYP2E1 gene polymorphism may relate to obese and Liver dysfuction.

An Empirical Study Of Taiwan Water Corporation¡¦s Customer Satisfaction: the 7th Branch As An Example

Chuang, Mao-sheng 08 June 2006 (has links)
For years, Taiwan Water Corporation (TWC) has been providing quality water to customers and improving the ratio of prevalence. However, with Taiwan¡¦s growth in economy and living-standard, it is becoming more and more difficult for TWC to provide satisfied water and to find clean water source. As a government owned business, TWC do not have to compete with any other competitor because of its monopolization. On the other hand, due to its social responsibility, TWC should work on providing quality water and continuously improving its service, the effort must be customer-orientated. In this paper, we survey the customer satisfaction of the TWC 7th branch. Several important findings as following: 1. In terms of physical outlay and the efficiency of service/construction, TWC has done a good job satisfying customers. Nevertheless, on the aspects of Assurance and Empathy, which affect customer satisfaction most seriously, TWC still has much to do. The improvement of outsourcing service, first-line employees, and quality of water are top tasks of TWC. 2. In general, customer satisfaction of Pingtung is better than which of Kaohsiung. When Kaohsiung customers require better quality of water, first-line employees¡¦ attitude, and water price, Pingtung customers ask for steadiness of water providing and the efficiency of construction in stead. 3. We strongly suggest TWC introduce quality activities such as QC Circle and other kinds of trainings. With the implication and emphasis of quality activities and customer satisfaction, could TWC strengthens service quality of its first-line employees, and turns its service process into customer-orientated. 4. Analysis points out outsourcing services are critical to TWC¡¦s customer satisfaction, especially the efficiency/safety of construction, accuracy/politeness of clerks, and the performance of outsourcing water purification station. TWC should make sure its policy and mission are executed perfectly.

A Study of Issues Concerning Information System Architecture Employed by Companies Investing in the South-Eastern China

Hung, Chia-Hung 01 August 2002 (has links)
ABSTRACT In order to effectively manage the investment in China, Taiwanese enterprises need to develop information systems (IS) that can facilitate efficient operational control and decision making. This study investigates the various architectures that are employed by manufacturing enterprises investing in the south-eastern coastal area of China for such purpose. The results show 1. The vendor support for software and hardware is poor when the plant site is far away from cities; 2. There are more problems for China-based IS units than those in Taiwan; 3. The communication infrastructure in China is inferior to that in Taiwan; 4. Many application systems in China are based on those in Taiwan, although adjustment is often necessary in order to adapt realistically to situations in China; 5. Taiwanese enterprises always set up their own security systems that suit their own needs; 6. The interface between traditional Chinese Kanji and simplified Chinese characters is a non-issue; 7. The system security, the existing application structure used in Taiwan, number of connecting points in China, and the efficiency of leased telecommunication line are the main factors for enterprises to consider when making decisions on the IS architecture; and 8. If leasing telecommunication lines is acceptable, the IS managers should base the IS architecture in Taiwan to increase the efficiency, enhance the security, and reduce cost.

The wintertime distribution of epipelagic fish eggs alongsouthwestern coast of Taiwan

Chang, Mei-Yu 28 July 2003 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the wintertime distribution of the fish eggs along the coast of southwestern Taiwan, and to elucidate the fish spawning ground in this area. Moreover, the distribution of striped mullet eggs was also investigated. Two kinds of sampling methods were used in this study, including the surface and vertical trawling. The former applied vertical and oblique towing along the coastline. One sampling was proceeded in November, December 2000, and January 2002 by R/V Ocean Researcher 3 at three transects vertically along the coastline at 10 to 1140 meters deep in Budai, Jiading, and Fangliau. The other was proceeded in November 2000, January, December 2001, and January 2002 parallelly along the coastline at 8 sites from Budai to Fangliau. Besides, the vertical sampling employed in December 2001 and January 2002 by R/V Ocean Researcher 1 in the Taiwan Strait was also analyzed. A total of 5909 fish eggs were obtained from three sampling nets, NORPAC, cyclindricalconic net, and bongo net. All together 4 families, 2 genera, and 2 species of fish eggs, including Myctphiformes Synodontidae, Engraulidae, Tetraodontiformes Tetraodontidae, Scorpaeniformes Triglidae, Muglidae, Clupeiformes chirocentru hyposelosoma, Salmoniformes Polyipnus polli, and Allopus japonicus were found. The fish eggs that couldn¡¦t be identified were sorted into 41 groups by the egg shape, size, and membrane pattern. The four most abundant fish eggs were Muglidae, Engraulidae, dead eggs, and group CV. The fish eggs abundance decreased from inshore to offshore at two transects in Jiading and Fangliau. But it was contrary at the transect of Budai. The same pattern also appeared in the distribution of Muglidae eggs. In the area of inshore water where waterdepth from 15 to 25 meters, higher abundance of total eggs, Muglidae, and Engraulidae were found at the southern site. Muglidae eggs were the most abundant in December, but Engraulidae eggs didn¡¦t appear in this month. 33 fish eggs that might be striped mullet were sampled by OR1 at the edge of 21 ¢J isotherm where China Coastal Current met Kuroshio Current. The hydrographic variation in the year from 2000 to 2001 was affected by tides and topography, whereas in the year from 2001 to 2002 was influenced by Kuroshio. Higher fish eggs abundance found at Linyuan may due to the turbulence of Kao-Ping submarine canyon.

A Study on Marine Education in Secondary School Status and Improvement Strategies

Wu, Yun-sheng 08 September 2008 (has links)
Taiwan is an island country, and thus the relationship between Taiwan and ocean is very closed. In 2007, the Ministry of Education published ¡§The White Paper on Marine Education Policies¡¨. In 2008, the Ministry of Education subsumed marine education into the A trial nine-year compulsory's subject. In this study, the author integrated marine educational related references, actual interviews and questionnaire survey of the teachers who Teaching in Secondary School in Central and Southern Taiwan. In addition, the author investigated the understanding and importance of the teachers. The purpose of this study is to explore the incorporation into secondary school curricula and improvement strategies. However, the teachers may face comprehensive problems when they conduct marine educations. Some suggestions and thoughts are provided at the end of this research for teachers and researchers' future use. The author analyzed the statistical dates of this study, and concluded as followed: (1) teachers have the motivation to spread marine educations; (2) teachers were deficient in teaching means and teaching materials of the marine educations; and (3) the awareness of marine consciousness had not increased and improved. According to the above conclusions, the author suggested: (1) upgrading proseminars' assessment and feedback mechanism; (2) providing more channels for the teaching means and teaching materials of the marine educations; and (3) promoting the marine consciousness in educational environment. According to the research results, there were some suggestions for researchers' future use: (1) integrating elementary school, secondary school, and senior high schools' marine educations; (2) keeping assessing marine educations; and (3) appraising the management of marine education resources center and web site.

Recruitment of Recent Business Graduates: A Comparison of Taiwan and the Czech Republic

Stromko, Bretislav 30 March 2009 (has links)
The thesis focuses on recruitment practices of recent business graduates and related issues in two countries, the Czech Republic and Taiwan. Firstly, it concentrates on what recruitment sources, such as internet job portals, job fairs and others, are popular among these particular groups acting in the labor market, and on the contrary, what sources are used by the organizations. Furthermore, the research explores what information companies advertize in their job advertisements and what information recent business graduates seek. It also tries to discover what skills, competencies and experiences Taiwanese and Czech HR professionals value and recommend graduates to have if they want to be successful in the recruitment and selection process. The importance of wants and values of recent business graduates, role of location, universities and culture is described as well. Collected data from the on-line questionnaire survey designed for companies and graduates, both from Taiwan and the Czech Republic, provided the major source of information for answering the main questions of this research. Nevertheless, several face-to-face interviews with HR professionals from both countries were conducted as well. These interviews should have provided more in-depth view on the issues related to the recruitment of recent business graduates and present detailed insights based on their experiences into related practices and topics. Consequently, the thesis gives a comprehensive picture of the issues discussed above and it should help companies, and also graduates from both countries to better match mutual wants and values. The results show that currently, modern information and communication technologies significantly influence the recruitment practices. Therefore, internet job portals and companies¡¦ websites are popular recruitment sources. Moreover, recent business graduates only seldom know what kind of job would suit them the best and thus, this factor influences their later performance at work. As a result, HR professionals recommend them to clarify it. Besides that, base salary and other financial incentives are no longer the main factors that influence graduates¡¦ decision-making in both countries. The survey outcomes show that graduates rather seek career prospects, training and educational possibilities, and also interesting and enriching jobs. They want to be proud of what they are doing, respected by their peers and they would like to further develop themselves.

Taiwanesisk identitet under konstruktion? : - En kvalitativ textanalys av den taiwanesiska identitetens uppkomst med utgångspunkt i konstruktivismen

Heimonen, Mathias January 2015 (has links)
Taiwan has over the past thirty years experienced a substantial political transformation. Being ruled by Chinese nationalists since World War II, Taiwan started its democratic transition in the late eighties. The new democratic system did not only provide people with freedom to vote, it also marked the beginning of a search for a new national identity. Based on the international theory of constructivism, this paper defines and studies the Taiwanese people’s progression away from a dominant Chinese national identity towards a uniquely defined Taiwanese identity. The purpose of this study is to understand the causes of the shifting national identity from a constructivist point of view. By using keywords within the theory of constructivism this paper studies major historical events that shaped and altered the national identity of Taiwan. These events include the democratization process as well as Taiwan’s changing relations to mainland China. Constructivist theory primarily suggests two important aspects in order to understand the shifting identity. These include the importance of the constructed political institutions in the form of political parties during the democratization process, as well as the cultural influence on the Taiwanese people correlated with the lifting of the ban on travel to China in the late eighties.
