Videotape feedback in group counseling : improving self concepts of children

Chandler, Sue January 1977 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate under experimental conditions whether the self concepts of children could be improved through the use of videotape feedback as a stimulus for discussion in group counseling sessions. The ninety-nine subjects in this study were all of the fourth and fifth grade students at Burris Laboratory School, Muncie, Indiana. The study was conducted during the spring of 1977.Two classrooms were used as experimental groups and two were control groups. Each classroom contained both fourth and fifth grade students. The experimental groups participated in six group counseling sessions over a two week period. Videotapes were made of regular classroom activities and these tapes were used as a stimulus for group discussions one hour later. Discussions were guided by the principles of Grasser's Reality Therapy. The data collected for each subject was the total score obtained on the Piers-Harris Children's Self Concept Scale which was administered as a pre-test, a post-test and a two-week delayed post-test.The effects of the treatment were analyzed through the use of a 2 X 4 X 2 univariate analysis of covariance with repeated measures on the third factor. The pre-test scores were used as a covariate. All factors were considered to be fixed.A non-significant sex-by-treatment interaction was found (F=1.054, P<.373). Also, a non-significant test-bysex interaction was found (F=1.35, p(.26). Because there were no interactions, the effects of the treatment were interpreted directly by a contrast between the experimental and control groups (E1+ E2 - C1+ C2).The null hypothesis stated that there would be no significant differences between the experimental and control groups in the self concepts of the subjects as measured by the Piers-Harris Children's Self Concept Scale. A F ratio of 15.991 (p<.0002) allowed the null hypothesis to be rejected. Because of the degree of non-homogeniety of the groups, the significance was in the direction of the control groups who obtained higher means than the experimental groups. Examination of group means showed that the experimental groups were significantly lower on the pre-test scores, made larger gains during the treatment than the control groups, but still scored lower on the two post-tests than the control groups. The mean of the normative sample for the Piers-Harris Children's Self Concept Scale is 51.84. In this study the mean on the delayed post-test was 59.56 for the experimentalgroups and 67.02 for the control groups.Under the constraints of the study, the following conclusions were made based on the statistical analyses of the data:1.The treatment did not produce more significant change than that observed in the groups which receive treatment.2. As a group, the self concept scores of the students at Burris Laboratory School are higher than those of the normative group.3. There were no significant differences in self concept scores based on the sex of the subjects.4. Becoming familiar with the components of personality which make up the self concept, as defined by PiersHarris, appeared to have a positive effect on the subjects.5. All groups experienced gains in self concept scores during the five weeks of this study.Recommendations were made for further study to include a longer period of treatment, the use of a behavioral. checklist to determine the effects of the treatment, and the use of videotape feedback and the Piers-Harris Children's Self Concept Scale in classroom activities.

Sanchis, Miguel Angel Zuazo January 2005 (has links)
Neste estudo passamos a avaliar as conseqüências deste novo cenário. / Pontal de Tapes is formed bya sandy spur insert in a Costal Plain of Rio Grande do Sul and located in northwest of Laguna dos Patos. Until 1970's, this area was distinguished for a dynamic characterization by winds action, waves and lagoon's flow, forming the environment with swaps, dunes, sand bar, between others features. Introduced forest pine, Pontal passed by hard alteration in its eolic transportation pattem and sand accumulation. This fact took the area a new eolic dynamic, consequently morphological. In this study we started to evaluate the consequences of this new scene. Then during a year (05.06.02 to 04.06.03) was monitored the weather's parameters as well as some dunes' areas. From this was detected that there are four processes happening in the environment: translado (Translocation), bloqueio (blockage), captura (capture) and Carreamento (carry aside) being the last three, started to overcome the environment after pines pattem. This new dynamic performance . caused deeply alteration in Pontal, such as swamp disappearance and uncharacterization of dunufield.

Melhoramento de sensores magnetostrictivos de deformação

Dalponte, Alessandro 21 February 2017 (has links)
Submitted by Ana Guimarães Pereira (agpereir@ucs.br) on 2017-04-06T19:26:08Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Alessandro Dalponte.pdf: 3408308 bytes, checksum: 24cdc0372903d233d5c2d5846465cccd (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2017-04-06T19:26:08Z (GMT). The possibility of being remotely queried allows their application in cases where sensors with wired connections present a physical limitation. The capability of acquiring a transverse magnetic anisotropy through thermal treatments, under applied magnetic field and/or stress, is what makes these materials attractive for application in magnetostrictive strain-gauges. The materials studied in this work, Metglas 2826MB3, Yeke 1k501, Yeke 1k501a, Vitrovac 7600, Vitroperm 800 and a commercial EAS Tags, presented magnetization curves with characteristics of materials with reduced transverse magnetic anisotropy. This was the motivation to carry out thermomagnetic treatments. The treatments were carried out under a magnetic field of approximately 500 Oe, using temperatures of 235, 275, 315 and 350˚C, for periods of 15, 30 and 60 minutes, in a home-made oven. The treatments resulted in considerable improvements on the shape of the ΔE curves, making them more asymmetric and increasing the frequency variations that these materials can present. The treatments also resulted in linear M-H curves, with constant magnetic susceptibility until saturation. A system for the application of stresses up to 30 MPa on the samples was built. ΔE curves with greater asymmetry for the pair resonator transducer (components of the strain-gauge) allowed a greater resonance frequency variation response of the sensor during strain tests. In the best case, a frequency variation above 5 kHz was detected for deformations of approximately 260 ppm, when the pair resonator transducer made of thermomagneticaly treated Metglas 2826MB3 was used. The measurements of the ΔE curves of a treated Metglas 2826MB3 ribbon, placed over 1010 steel substrates, soft magnetic material, showed that they were still detectable. However, their form was altered due to the magnetic interaction with the steel. Simulations made using the software FEMM, helped to understand the observed phenomena during the strain tests and the interaction between the ribbon and the soft magnetic substrates.
