The Effect of Taping on Postural Stability in Patients with Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction on Posturomed Platform after Rehabilitation using Postural TherapyIndrová, Zuzana January 2012 (has links)
Title: The Effect of Taping on Postural Stability in Patients with Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction on Posturomed Platform after Rehabilitation using Postural Therapy Aim: Objective evaluation of the effects of kinesiotaping and functional taping on postural stabilization during standing on one foot in patients after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction on the defined unstable Posturomed platform. Methods: The thesis is based on analytical-comparative study. The subjects of the study were patients after ACL reconstruction, who have done fifteen rehabilitation sessions which included postural therapy. The patients were subjected to a "3-step stand on one foot" test to standardize measurement. Three kinds of measurement were applied: without taping, kinesiotaping, and rigid-functional taping taped bilaterally above the m. vastus medialis. Results: The measurements on the Posturomed suggest that the ability of postural stabilization differs on each lower limb in patients after an ACL reconstruction. The application of taping had an effect in the majority of cases, although it was a negative effect on postural stabilization in most kinesiotaped measurements compared to un-taped measurements. The functional taping, on the other hand, had mostly positive reactions unlike with the...

The effect of Kinesio tape® on post dry needling soreness in the treatment of trapezius trigger point oneMaruggi, Marco 23 April 2014 (has links)
M.Tech. (Chiropractic) / Myofascial Pain Syndrome, is a common source of frustration for both healthcare practitioners and patients. It is the second most common reason for patients visiting their health care practitioner and constitutes up to 85% of the reasons for visits to pain clinics (Han and Harrison, 1997). As muscle pain is the most common work-related injury (Hubbard, 1998), it costs billions of dollars in lost revenue every year due to lost productivity (Fricton, 1990). Hong (1994), states that dry needling has been extensively studied and has been shown to decrease or even abolish myofascial pain. However post dry needling soreness is a common side effect of dry needling. Stuart (2010), states that applying kinesio tape® to a musculoskeletal injury during rehabilitation could result in a quicker recovery by allowing the body to biomechanically heal itself. Garcia-Mura et al (2009), results suggest that kinesio tape® is a method highly appropriate in the treatment of myofascial trigger points by normalising muscular function, increasing lymphatic and vascular flow, diminishing pain and aid in the correction of possible articular malalignment. The aim of this study was to determine the effects that kinesio tape® has on the trapezius trigger point one post needling, to determine whether there is an increase in the therapeutic effect of dry needling and an increased recovery time of the myofascial trigger points, with regards to changes in pressure pain threshold, pain and cervical range of motion. Participants for this study were recruited either by an advertisement which was placed on the information board of the Chiropractic Day Clinic at the University of Johannesburg as well as advertisements placed in and around the University of Johannesburg at the Doornfontein Campus. Also, many participants were made aware of this study via word of mouth from candidates already involved in the study. Thirty participants were randomly assigned into one of two groups, each consisting of 15 participants. Group A received dry needling of the trapezius trigger point one followed by the application of kinesio tape® whereas group B received dry needing of trapezius trigger point one only. Participants were treated 5 times with objective and subjective measurements taken at the 1st, 3rd and 5th visits. Objective measurements consisted of readings taken with an algometer and cervical range of motion (CROM) device. The subjective measurements consisted of the Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NPRS) and the Vernon Mior Neck Disability Index. The results of the study showed clinically and statistical significant improvements for both groups in regards to alleviating pain subjectively (Numerical Pain Rating Scale and Vernon-Mior Neck Pain and Disability Index), increasing pressure pain threshold objectively (Algometer) and increasing range of motion objectively (Cervical Range of Motion device). However group A (dry needing and kinesio tape®) showed a greater improvement in both subjective and objective measurements. Based on the results of the study, it could be concluded that both dry needling on its own as well as applying kinesio tape® post dry needling can be effective in the treatment of myofascial trigger points in the upper trapezius muscle, however applying kinesio tape® post dry needling seemed to be more effective.

Tejpningstekniker vid lateral epikondyalgi: en systematisk litteraturstudie / Taping techniques for lateral epicondylalgia: a systematic reviewJansson, Hanna January 2020 (has links)
Metod: Systematisk litteraturstudie. Sökningen genomfördes i databasen PubMed. / Background: Lateral epicondylalgia is a common injury, with a long period of pain and disability as symptoms. At present there is no consensus on which treatments are the best for epicondylalgia, but taping is considered to reduce pain and facilitate rehabilitation. In recent years, new research has been published on taping in epicondylalgia, but few systematic reviews are available. A compilation of the new literature on taping may lead to a clarification in the guidelines for treatment of epicondylalgia. Objective: Systematically identify, review, and examine evidence regarding the effects of taping on pain in individuals with epicondylalgia. Methods: Systematic review. The search was conducted in the database PubMed. The studies were assessed according to PEDro scale and GRADE from Statens beredning för medicinsk och social utvärdering (SBU). Results: Eight articles were included in the study, with a total of 279 participants. The studies received between five and eight points on the PEDro scale. According to GRADE there were limited evidence for kinesiotape (KT) being able to reduce pain and insufficient evidence for KT having any effect on pain-free grip strength (PFGS) and pressure pain threshold (PPT). Insufficient evidence was also identified for diamond tape and biomechanical tape for pain, PFGS and PPT. Conclusion: The evidence for taping in epicondylalgia were in general low. Further well-conducted studies with similar issues and methods are important to clarify the evidence and the use of the different taping techniques.

Effekten av tejpning vid patellofemoralt smärtsyndrom : En systematisk litteraturstudie / The effects of taping in patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome : A Systematic ReviewJonasson, Linn, Wennberg, Sara January 2022 (has links)
Systematisk sökning genomfördes i Pubmed, Cochrane och Web of Science. / Abstract Background: Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is a common pain condition. Taping as a treatment option is well used among physiotherapists, despite lack of evidence. It would be of value to investigate what earlier evidence says about taping as a treatment option in PFPS. Objective: Compile and survey whether taping as an isolated or combined treatment has an effect on pain for people with PFPS. Quality review the results of randomized control studies (RCTs) with PEDro and assess its reliability with GRADEstud. Method: Structured question according to PICO. P: Healthy people with PFPS, I: Taping, C: Other / no treatment, O: Pain intensity measured with established measuring instruments. Inclusion criterias were RCTs, studies published in the last 20 years, studies in English and studies in full text. Exclusion criteria were studies available for a fee. Searches were conducted in Pubmed, Cochrane and Web of Science. Eight studies were included and reviewed with PEDro and GRADEstud. Results: The eight included studies quality varied between moderate to high, according to the PEDro scale. Regarding combined treatment, two of the six included studies found a significant difference. Regarding isolated treatment only one of the two studies found a significant difference. The reliability of the weighted result was rated as very low (+), according to GRADEstud. Conclusion: Taping as a treatment option has ambiguous evidence. Therefore, this study can not determine whether taping has a pain-relieving effect or not in PFPS.

Kinesio Sportswear : Exploration of kinesio tapes integrated in garment construction for sportswearKaspari, Hannah January 2023 (has links)
Kinesio taping constructions are translated into garment construction in order to explore different principles for integrating kinesio taping devices and applying them to function and well-being in an everyday sports context. The significance of this project lies in developing sportswear that integrates similar functions to a Kinesio Tape. Recurring physical ailments are addressed with garments to improve flexibility between the health problem and kinesiology taping functions. A series of design experiments integrating elastic tapes and involving test subjects led to new perspectives in the field. Within the process, different principles were tested that mimic the function of a Kinesio Tape. The developed prototypes were fitted to specific test subjects and then tested with the help of a user test during an activity. The process showed that the subject area still leaves much room for further research. Specifying the field of application more is one possibility.
