A co-oficialidade da língua tétum e da língua portuguesa: um desafio para a formação de professores no Timor-Leste / The co-official language of Tétum and Portuguese: a challenge for the training of teachers in East Timor

Reis, Francisca Maria Soares dos 01 April 2011 (has links)
The objective of this research is to identify the documents of the education of East Timor in order to verify the similarities and the differences on treatment between Portuguese and Tétum languages, in the post - independence, to be provided as official languages of East Timor. The corpus was composed by the Curriculum of Basic Education, the Guidelines of the Teachers and the Teaching Programs from Elementary school up to higher education. We have identified that between both idioms the Portuguese has more priority rather than Tétum in the official documents, in the Teaching Programs we found the great difference in the time table between the Portuguese and Tétum language. That difference bring us an inquietude that for the future it will have more space and if does not have any attention. The important part of the theory concept to support this work, using the perspective of Analysis and Discourse, where we take the idea of the process of speech which involve the condition of Sociohistories, the space where the discourse are working. The implementation of Tétum as official language in education of East Timor is a challenge that the Portuguese has a priority in the schools rather than Tétum. Probably, lack of teaching materials and teachers formation on Tétum language those are the challenges that must be overcome to continue investing in school and practice the Tétum language. It is necessary to create conditions for continuing the formation of all the teachers in Tétum language. From the basic level, until the higher education. The Tétum language should be a high priority because the timorese teachers should be proficiently in the co-official language in their country as in writing or in speaking they should be competent in the methodology, especially in terms of the teaching and strategy in learning Tétum language. The teachers are the responsible for learning and teaching Tétum as the second language as a mother tongue and official language of timorese. We can ensure that, the teaching of Tétum contributed for the affirmation of the identity and the Cultural expression of the country. We defend that, Tétum language will be developed it should has a specific formation in the University for the teachers that use the language which more familiarize by the students, certainly will provide effective interaction. We ensure that the result of our reflection be an indication the way for dialogue between the university and the teachers of primary school and among the students and the teachers will speak in their own language.

Popis podstatných rozdílů technické přípravy ve vodním slalomu a rychlostní kanoistice v kategorii K1 / A description of significant differences in technical preparation of water slalom and canoe sprint in K1 category

Mokrý, Michal January 2010 (has links)
Thesis title: A description of significant differences in technical preparation of water slalom and canoe sprint in K1 category. Thesis objective: The objective of the thesis is to determine the main features typical of technical preparation of kayakers in Czech canoeing clubs and to describe possible differences in the preparation of sprint kayakers and water slalom kayakers. Methods of data processing: The work is based on mixed research. The racers and coaches were presented with a questionnaire concerning technical preparation. Collected output was analyzed using the methods of quantitative research and of analytical induction. Results: Several significant differences were detected between the technical preparation of sprint kayakers and water slalom racers. To develop basic kayaking strokes, water slalom racers in mostly younger age categories use other water sports, especially wild water, more frequently. In preparatory exercises sprint racers limit themselves to stroke sequencing. Water slalom racers use a wider range of preparatory exercises to develop basic kayaking stroke. In order to gain feedback, water slalom racers use videorecording analysis several times a month and that not only during technical preparation period. In sprint canoeing the videorecording analysis is used...

Alvarez, Maria Fernanda Cazo January 2020 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: Pre-lingual sensorineural hearing loss can compromise the development of oral language. The cochlear implant (CI) is an auditory device that allows this population to detect sounds in the frequency of human speech. Sound detection may not be sufficient for language development and require teaching procedures to promote learning how to use the device and develop auditory and expressive skills. Research on the interface between Speech-Language Pathology and behavior analysis has shown that Equivalence-Based Instruction (EBI) involving the reading network can increase the speech accuracy of children with pre-lingual hearing loss who use CI, from words to sentences. Still, verbal productivity has been demonstrated in previous studies through the combination of EBI that includes constructed response matching to sample (CMRTS) and training by matrices, which can increase control by smaller units and the recombinative potential. In this sense, the present study evaluated the effects of two teaching procedures, based on selection (MTS) and the constructed response (CRMTS), on learning or strengthining the conditional relations between dictated and printed sentences, in children with CI, still, it aimed to verify if derived and consistent relations with the equivalence relations are observed, and to evaluate if this EBI could promote the increase of speech accuracy in tasks of naming action figures and recombinative performances. Two children participated, with sensorineural hearing l... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Mestre

Sundberg, Ann-Kari January 2009 (has links)
The overall aim of the present study is to investigate how teachers deal with linguistic and cultural otherness in the French foreign language classroom at upper secondary school level in Sweden. The foreign language classroom is seen as a cultural meeting place where images of otherness are natural elements. In this respect, otherness should be regarded as one cultural aspect among others implying human as well as language phenomena. Analyzing the way in which the teachers in the study mediate this otherness to their students is expected to contribute to the pedagogical debate on intercultural understanding in language teaching and learning.   The study is based on empirical data consisting of video recorded observations in three different classrooms. One class (class A) is treated as primary data where two activities are especially focused, namely working with texts and working with grammar. The verbal interaction from these activities has been transcribed and analyzed qualitatively.   The first step of analysis concerns the learning aims which are transmitted to the students in the teacher’s introduction to the two activities. The second step deals with the teacher’s procedures to involve the students in the construction of knowledge which focuses on linguistic and cultural otherness.   Finally, a comparative perspective is adopted. On the one hand, the two different activities are compared with each other, while on the other hand, the findings from class A are compared with class B and C. From a dialogical point of view, the way in which the classroom setting and the teachers’ acting can favour intercultural understanding is discussed.   The results of the analyses highlight the fact that teachers seem to pay more attention to linguistic otherness than to cultural otherness. Furthermore, the study shows that the foreign language classroom has a dialogical potential when it comes to human relations and discourse. More attention could be paid to these aspects of teaching in order to pave the way for better intercultural understanding. The teachers in the present study seem to favour dialogical relationships in the classroom and neglect discursive issues in the situation. Our conclusion is that the way in which teachers deal with otherness is tradition-bound. Texts, for instance, even those with an obvious intercultural content, are treated as pre-texts for studying linguistic phenomena. Cultural phenomena, when dealt with, are limited to a product paradigm and are transmitted without reflection and with no apparent awareness of any intercultural understanding.

Work proposals which discuss scholar questions along with teachers appear in a collaborative format, in which this professional would take an active role in the knowledge construction and there would be knowledge exchange among those involved. The Behavior Analysis provides conditions to the discussions about the process of teaching and learning including the description of principles and procedures which contributed for effective teaching, and, also, for descriptive function evaluation which can be understood as an educational resource that has been teaching the teachers, and, in which, an individual establishes functions relations between events from behavior identification to be analyzed and antecedent conditions and subsequent to this behavior. From a collaborative work format, the aims of this research were to describe teaching situations carried out by kindergarten teacher for teaching pre-arithmetic skills and also enable to the participant to describe functional relationships between what she wanted to teach, their teaching practices, and performance of their students as a result of its practices. In addition, to describe the present collaborative work, as well as, to create conditions for the teacher to describe principles and procedures for Behavior Analysis, which could contribute to effective teaching, were also aims of this study. The present work has conducted at the school where the teacher works. It was realized interviews to research teaching practices (in the context of teaching pre-arithmetic skills) for teaching pre-arithmetic skills; a discussion between researcher and participant on tasks present in an educational program of pre-arithmetical skills and teacher interaction with the mentioned program; recording and classroom observations; discussions for planning and analysis classes. It was described seven situations of teaching which will be used for the teaching pre-arithmetic skills from the data. However, only two teaching situations were also planned, executed and analyzed, which were related to the ordering skills of ensemble and notion of the pertinence of the objects to sets. The descriptive functional assessment seems to be a tool with potential to collaborative works with teachers. However, the procedure used did not allow that the participant functionally relates all the aspects discussed in the planning of the analyzed classes. The teacher showed indicative behaviors that appropriated elements brought by the researcher, in the other words, viii the participant used in some moments of the planning, execution and analysis of class principles and procedures described by Behavior Analysis focused on teaching (for example, she said that should have done the evaluation of the previous repertoire of students to realize a teaching situation). In addition, in these situations, the participant established some punctual dependence relations between theirs aims, teaching practices and performance measures for students on these practices. Because it was a collaborative work, the exchange knowledge between researcher and participant was something desired, and about this, the participant contributed describing practices for the pre-arithmetical skills teaching, as well as thinking of teaching opportunities for those who were not part of their routine. Participant speeches indicated that some elements of the collaborative work were not present throughout the interaction, such as the co-responsibility for the work. Changes in the present procedure were suggested to amend this characteristic of the interaction.

An English for Specific Purposes Curriculum to Prepare English Learners to Become Nursing Assistants

Romo, Abel Javier 11 July 2006 (has links) (PDF)
This project details the designing and implementation of an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) Curriculum to prepare English learners to become Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center (UVRMC) in Provo, Utah. UVRMC, which is owned by Intermountain Health Care (IHC), employs a group of about 40 non-native speakers of English. They work as housekeepers and have interest in learning English and consequently acquiring new skills they could use in better jobs to improve the quality of their lives. UVRMC would like these employees to obtain additional education in order to provide them with better employment opportunities. UVRMC allowed two graduate students at the Department of Linguistics and English Language at Brigham University to design and implement an ESP course to help UVRMC housekeepers improve their language skills in preparation to apply and participate in a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course offered through IHC University. This report covers the linguistic needs analysis of the participants, situational analysis of UVRMC in terms of the support given to the curriculum, the designing of goals and objectives, the syllabus, the teaching of the syllabus, some material development, and the assessment of language learning. It also describes the instruments used to obtain information during each step of the designing of the curriculum and its implementation, analyzes that information, presents results, assesses the curriculum's efficacy, and explains the implications for other ESP curricula in the field of nursing and other scientific fields.
