Human distillations : the visual and conceptual development of a body of work

Christian, Amy J. January 1988 (has links)
The creative project was the end result of a year of focused exploration and development in the areas of painting and drawing. The artist created a group of five oil paintings and four mixed media drawings which culminated her year of work. The pieces were exhibited on Ball State University campus as well as being documented and evaluated in a thesis paper.A strong belief in the importance of the ability to pursue an idea or concept to its furthest point led the artist to set the goals of the project. While working on the project, the artist honed her technical skills, and strengthened her personal aesthetic by her discovery and research of painters who based their work in similar beliefs. The accomplishment of the goals she had set forth was the first step on the artist's journey to becoming a professional, exhibiting artist. / Department of Art

The Anxiologic Schemes : from transcendantal affectivity to imaginary dynamics

Schunadel, Nicolas 21 September 2011 (has links)

A study to evaluate variable number tandem repeat DNA polymorphisms in disputed paternity testing

Schlaphoff, Theresa Elizabeth-Anne January 1993 (has links)
Thesis (MDip (Medical Technology))--Cape Technikon, 1993 / The use of genetic marker testing to resolve cases of disputed paternity, is well established. The number and range of systems used depends on the expertise of the laboratory, and for this reason various laboratories offer different systems. Standard testing includes tests in the following genetic marker systems: human leukocyte antigen (tissue) typing; red cell blood groups; and red cell enzyme and serum protein testing. The Provincial Laboratory for Tissue Immunology currently offers a range of 16 genetic marker systems capable of excluding >99% of falsely accused men. Following the discovery DNA polymorphisms, particularly VNTR DNA polymorphisms, and the commercial availability of VNTR DNA probes, PLTI decided to offer this service to our clients. This study was the initial phase in the establishment of a VNTR DNA typing laboratory and covered the determination of inter-and intra-gel accuracy and precision, selection of restriction enzyme/probe combination, and evaluation and comparison of the results of 100 disputed paternity cases tested using both standard and VNTR DNA typing. Of the 100 cases tested, in 33 cases, the putative father was excluded using standard testing. These exclusions were confirmed using VNTR DNA typing, and, furthermore, an additional two exclusions of paternity were shown using only VNTR DNA typing. In another two cases of disputed paternity, the exclusions obtained using standard tests required further confirmation. VNTR DNA typing convincingly excluded both falsely accused putative fathers. The VNTR DNA typing laboratory now functions as an integral part of the disputed paternity service. Due to the cost and time involved in VNTR DNA typing it is reserved at this stage for: those cases which require further confirmation of the results of standard testing; when the probability of paternity is low (<99.7%); or when a specific request is made.

The Influence of Hypnotic Susceptibility on Depth of Trance Using a Direct Induction and a Metaphorical Induction Technique

Grotts, James B. (James Bruce) 08 1900 (has links)
To test the hypothesis that a metaphorical technique would be more effective than a direct technique to induce hypnosis, 60 volunteers from students at North Texas State University were divided into high- and low-susceptible subjects by the Harvard Group Scale of Hypnotic Susceptibility. They were randomly assigned to direct and metaphorical induction groups and to a control group, with 10 high- and 10 low-susceptible subjects in each group. After hypnosis they completed the Field Inventory of Hypnotic Depth, and their mean scores were subjected to an analysis of variance and a Newman-Keuls test. Neither method of hypnotic induction was found more effective than the other, although both were effective when compared to a control group. It was also found that subjects who expected to be able to experience hypnosis were no more likely to be hypnotized than those who expected not to be able to experience hypnosis. Finally, it was found that low-susceptible subjects were as likely to respond to a post-hypnotic suggestion as high-susceptible subjects.

An evaluation of my painting development

Unknown Date (has links)
It is my intention, in this evaluation of my paintings, to serve dual purposes: the partial fulfillment of the requirements of the requirements for a Master of Arts degree, and a better understanding of my work and myself as a painter. The latter, I hope to achieve through this retrospective analysis of work done a t the intuitive, as well as the conscious level. Before one evaluates his paintings, perhaps he should first state his understanding of the creative process through which these paintings came into being. This process, to me, is the result of one's search for self-expression; a means through which he may put down in paint his philosophies, feelings, and ideas about life. / "February, 1957." / Typescript. / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts." / Includes bibliographical references (leaf 46).

The use of digital impression technique among Swedish dentists and dental technicians : A questionnaire survey

Wimmerstedt, Max, Dadashazar, Hassan January 2023 (has links)
Background: Digital impressions are becoming increasingly favored among dentists and dental technicians in Sweden. The knowledge about the use of digital impression techniques is important to improve the clinical work for dentists and dental technicians. However, the conventional impression techniques are still widely used although the digital impression techniques have become more preferred nowadays. Aim: The aim of this survey study was to investigate the use of digital impressions among dentists and dental technicians in Sweden. Pros and cons with the digital impression techniques were investigated as well as the areas in which it is used.  Method: Questionnaires were sent by post to dentists and dental technicians with different questions suited to each profession. The questionnaires were distributed to four regions representing the southern, western, eastern, and northern parts of the country. The questions contained information about the use of digital impressions.   Results: Fixed prosthodontics and the production of mouth guards are areas in which the digital impression techniques are most frequently used. Dentists believed that precision, time saving impression procedure and patient comfort were the greatest advantages with the digital impression techniques. Dental technicians thought that time, cost, possibility to reuse digital impressions and the minimization of the sources of error were the greatest advantages with the digital impression techniques.    Conclusions: The digital impression techniques are widely used among dentists and dental technicians, specifically within fixed prosthodontics and the production of mouth guards.
