This diploma thesis focuses on the role of the television channel VTV4 in lives of Vietnamese immigrants in the Czech Republic. It tries to clarify what are the functions of VTV4 and what it represents for its audience. The thesis is divided into theoretical, methodological and analytical parts. The theoretical part is compiled from Czech and foreign literature. At the beginning of this section it presents theories explaining functions of mass media in society. Then it describes the characteristics of Vietnamese immigrants in the Czech Republic and their internal differentiation. One of the most important chapters of the thesis is also a chapter describing VTV4, which briefly introduces its objectives, history, and also its program. The core of the thesis is the qualitative research conducted through semi-structured interviews. The methodology of the research is explained in detail in the methodology section. The aim was to find out from informants, which roles VTV4 plays in their lives whereby great attention is paid to differences in perception between the so-called the first generation of Vietnamese immigrants and the second generation. Title: Olympic Broadcast Rights Objectives: The main objective of this thesis is to analyse the revenue derived from the sale of the broadcasting rights to the Olympics by Olympic Movement. In the thesis are analysed the total sum of revenue, selected territory and compared the proportion that belongs to the International Olympic Committee and the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games. The secondary objective is to adapt and calculation of the conversion mechanism for the transfer of amounts reported in different currencies in different periods. Methods: Data collection is performed a secondary analysis of documents. The basic aggregate consist of the Summer Olympic Game held 1960 - 2012. The observed variables are: total revenue from broadcasting rights, revenue from broadcasting rights from Europe, the revenue from broadcasting rights from the U.S., revenue from broadcasting rights in Canada, revenue from broadcasting rights from Australia, revenue from broadcasting rights from Japan, the revenue from broadcasting rights in others countries, the number of hours produced from OH, the percentage distribution of revenues from broadcasting rights in the Olympic Movement. Title: A Comparison of Sport Clubs' Systems of Financing from the Sale of Television Rights Objectives: The main objective of this thesis was to come up with a clear description of the issues concerning the broadcasting rights in particular football leagues of Spain, Italy, Germany, France, England and the Czech Republic, and subsequently compare the contracts with TV service providers, as well as the money distribution among the participating clubs. Methods: The methods used include an analysis of documents, a comparative analysis and a thorough interview. In order to describe the particular national leagues, a great number of relevant articles and official league news were required to be analysed. This analysis then led to the comparison of the aforementioned leagues. A thorough interview was used for the description of the current Czech environment and was conducted with an employee of STES a.s., Mr. Tomáš Pata. Results: The chief result of the thesis is a clear and comprehensible description of the sale development of television rights in the most prestigious European football leagues, and the subsequent analysis in light of the solidarity in redistributing the money received. SUMMARY: This thesis focuses on theatre, film and television acting of one of the important representatives of Czech dramatic art in Czech artistic and social context in the second half of the twentieth century. The aim of this work is to depict means of expression used by Vaclav Voska in his roles. It provides summary of actor's theatrical work and in the part dedicated to his TV acting tries to comprehensively describe compering television series "We invite you to the theatre". The following part is dedicated to film acting, especially to his cooperation with the Film Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. The work neither neglects his teaching at the Faculty of Performing Arts Theatre nor his political career. The essential part of this thesis is focuses on his role of Emile Magis in Félicien Marceau's game The Egg. The work presents a comparison of commercial channels TV Nova and TV Barrandov in terms of historical, economical and marketing perspectives during their entry into the television market. The survey focused on the time period of two media entry to the TV market - at about one year before and one year after the entry. TV Nova in the years 1993 - 1994 and TV Barrandov in the years 2008 - 2009. These time periods influenced late development of both TV channels. Both TV channels were chosen regarding to the important stages (eras) of the television market development during which was possible to examine the valuable differences. The Entry of TV Nova belonged to the era of transformation and privatization of the Czech media. TV Nova was the first commercial TV channel of the full format type not only in Czech Republic but in all post-communist Europe. The Entry of TV Barrandov belonged to the era of TV digitalization. This TV channel was the first full format in the era of digitalization. The work tries to find answers if different conditions of entry caused usage of different marketing tools. Furthermore, if the differences of television markets influenced later developments of both TV channels.

Title: The popularity of the sport among the general public in relations to its presentation on TV Objectives: The aim of this thesis is to determine the popularity of the sport among the general public and to compare it with its presentation on TV. The popularity and viewership of the sport is determined by questioning the public. To conduct interviews with experts on sports broadcasters from television, explaining views of sport news provided on public and commercial televisions. Final results were compared with the results of observation presentation of the sport in sport news in the thesis of Trnková (2014). The results allowed to propose recommendations which will be for use in marketing, sports and media organisations. The results will only imply a certain degree of scientific contribution. Methods: The market research of this thesis has consisted of quantitative and qualitative methods. An electronic questionnaire published on the server Vyplňto.cz, helped gather results from the public. Interviews were carried out in-depth including electronic questioning via e-mail correspondence. This thesis focuses on the manner how a phenomenon often called "media construction of reality" occurs in the Reality TV. This popular television genre is known for mixing reality captured on an omnipresent camera together with fiction elements in order to amuse the audience. In the theoretical part, I will focus on the concepts that are crucial for this phenomenon such as Berger's and Luckmann's social construction of reality, gatekeeping or agenda setting. Also, I will describe the history of Reality TV as a genre and also will focus on main subgenres that can be seen on television these days. In the practical part, I will use narrative analysis to identify how the media are constructing reality in television programmes. The sample for the analysis will consist of 80 episodes from 11 different TV shows of American and British production. These have already spread out of their country of origin and are familiar to Czech audience from local TV channels. My main thesis is that media construction of reality can happen from the very beginning - i.e. from rules establishing to shooting and postproduction. All these phases will be analyzed in this paper.

This thesis deals with the transformation of the thematic structure of Události, the main news segment of the Czech Television. Apart from the changes in the thematic structure, it deals with formal transformations at the basic level. For the purpose of this work, a research sample, which included one week of broadcasting in 1994, 2005 and 2011, was selected. A total of 27 news segments, which contained 341 reportages, were analyzed in the three research periods. A subsequent comparison of data provided answers to the following questions: How did the ratio of foreign and domestic topics changed? How did the ratio of hard and soft news change within a single news segment? What was the thematic structure like in the three research periods? Was there a change in the thematic structure? How did the duration of the news segment Události change? How did the number of reportages change within a single news segment? How did the duration of actual reportages change? From the begining of television broadcasting in the Czechoslovakia the sports documentary belonged to the group of TV genres, which are regularly situated on the television. Most of the czech and czechoslovak sports documentaries also got an important award at home and abroad. This thesis is looking for what place a sports documentary has in the Czech Television broadcasting at the beginning of the 21st century, an era that increasingly belongs to the Internet and shared content rather than television. The thesis also seeks to answer the question of what types of sports documentaries are currently being filmed, and whether a sports documentary is the privilege of a public television or private television or even internet stations and platforms. The thesis also includes a list of sports documentaries that were broadcasted by the Czech Television between 2000 and 2018.

Normalizační kinematografie v současném televizním vysílání / Normalization-era cinematography in Czech current television broadcastingJabůrek, Václav January 2019 (has links)
There are lots of studies about normalization cinematography, its content or historical context of its creation. But there was no research about its presence in post-communist television broadcast in the Czech Republic. This work takes a look on five biggest TV channels - ČT1, ČT2, Nova, Prima and Barrandov - in eight chosen years between 1994 and 2015. Content analysis shows, how are Czech televisions dealing with movies and series from communist era, and whether there are any long-term trends connected with this genre. Thanks to the research method, we can see how the usage of those titles has developed up to present. Study also focuses on programmes during weekends and holidays and the amount of normalization movies on these occasions. One part of this work is dealing with communist propaganda and its presence in current broadcast. As Harald Welzer's studies show, old movies are hugely affecting people's understanding of historical events. Therefore, this survey focuses on Czechoslovak movies, which are falsifying modern history such as TV series Thirty Cases of Major Zeman or comedy Bourlive vino. Apart from those cases, less propagandistic movies have also been examined. For example those showing idealized image of normalization society and values of the former regime.
