"Läroboken - min trogne vän" : En studie om hur lärare använder sig av läroboken i matematikundervisning

Yorulmaz, Songul January 2011 (has links)
The textbook is one of the instruments that teachers and students have available in their teaching. For many years has textbook regarded as being too controlling and as a barrier to students development in mathematics. Textbooks primary mission is to promote learning. My study aims to provide an overview of how effective teachers use the textbook in mathematics education as well as the pros and cons they see with their work. The work includes interviews with five active mathematics teachers. The results of the survey showed that every teacher in the study uses the textbook as the basis for their teaching. Teachers indicate that the textbook is not the starting point when planning their teachings but the textbook is used as an aid in teaching mathematics.

Teachers' Concerns Regarding the Adoption of the New Mathematics Textbook

El-Saleh, Ilham Kamel 2011 August 1900 (has links)
The goal of this study is to identify and examine teachers' concerns regarding their use of the new adopted mathematics textbook. In Texas, middle school mathematics teachers are often given a great deal of flexibility in the decision to use or not to use textbooks in their classrooms. This provides an opportunity for discussion about the concerns of teachers regarding the use of the newly adopted textbook. This study focused on investigating the concerns of teachers in relation to the adoption of the new textbooks for their districts based their years of experience in teaching the same class and their involvement on using the same textbook. In addition, this study identified the source of support in implementing the new curriculum materials. The study utilized the Concern Based Adoption Model (CBAM) as its theoretical framework. A non-experimental, cross-sectional survey design, incorporating a researcher-developed Stages of Concern Questionnaire (SoCQ), was used to address the research questions. A qualitative analysis was used to explore the teachers needs related to the use of the new adopted textbook and to provide additional insights into the teachers' concerns. The answers of 147 middle school mathematic teachers were analyzed in addition to teachers' interviews. Overall, the study found that teachers' highest concerns are focused mainly on the management of their work and that they are still in the early stages of implementing the new textbook. Teaching experience proved to be an important factor in explaining teachers' concerns in the implementation. Teachers feel isolated and unsupported in their use of the new curriculum materials and they expressed the need for support from their schools and from textbook publishers, as well as the need for more time and training to become familiar with the new textbook's content. They also wanted evidence that the new textbook supports student learning. Recommendations from the study include the need for the schools and the textbook publishing companies to work with middle grade school mathematics teachers to enable them to implement the new curriculum materials (textbooks) in the classrooms.

Wu, Ching-Hui 10 July 2006 (has links)
The purposes of this research were to understand the views of the teachers on the area of social studies in junior high school in Kaohsiung City about the present status and influence factors on textbook selection, and to offer feasible suggestions according to the results. This research adopted questionnaire method to collect information about the present status and influence factors on textbook selection from 381 teachers of 41 junior high schools .The major instrument , i.e. The Questionnaire for Investigation the View about Present Status and Influence Factors on textbooks selection from the teachers on social studies area in junior high school in Kaohsiung City ,was designed to collect quantitative data ,which was later analyzed by means of percentage frequently distribution ,standard deviation ,one-way ANOVA ,Scheff¡¦e method ,and t-test ,etc .Otherwise ,the questionnaires can also offered the teachers to state other opinions about the present status and influence factors on textbook selection .The qualitative data can be used to support the statistic results or to offer other opinions about the present status and influence factors on textbook selection to this research. The major results were summarized as follows¡G 1.Teachers were mainly people selecting textbook. Parents, students, and scholars weren¡¦t average people to select textbook . 2.The average teachers have positive comments on the textbooks selecting procedure .But studies and professional evaluations on textbook selection were lacking. 3.A majority of the teachers agree that textbook selection criterions were important, but the most important criterions were content criterions. 4.The problems of textbooks selection were not serious, but it¡¦s difficult for the teachers who teach different kinds of subjects to choose the best textbooks. 5.The main correct factors for teachers and students textbook using have more influence on textbook selection than second correct factors for teachers and students textbook using. 6.The teachers with different school and individual backgrounds have significantly different views about textbook selection on people, procedure, and criterions, but haven¡¦t significantly different views about textbook selection on problems. 7.The teachers with different school backgrounds have significantly different views on main and second textbook using factors. The teachers with different individual backgrounds haven¡¦t significantly different views on second textbook using factors, but the teachers with different titles have significantly different views on main textbook using factors. In accordance with the results of this research, suggest concerning aspects of the education administrative, school¡¦s administrative staff, teachers and publishers, respectively. Follow-up studies were also proposed.

A Case Study Of Elementary Mathematics Teachers&#039 / Views Of Their And Students&#039 / Textbook Usage And Of Mathematics Textbooks&#039 / Characteristics

Baser, Nadiye 01 July 2012 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this study was to investigate teachers&rsquo / ways of using mathematics textbooks while planning the lesson and during the lesson, to document teachers&rsquo / views about elementary students&rsquo / usage of mathematics textbook during the classroom time and for their homework and teachers&rsquo / views about mathematics textbooks&rsquo / characteristics. A case study was conducted in a private elementary school with more class hours for mathematics and six mathematics teachers teaching 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th grade mathematics in this school participated. Data were collected in the spring semester of 2010-2011 academic year through an interview protocol with 16 main questions addressing teachers&rsquo / mathematics textbook usage and students&rsquo / mathematics textbook usage developed for this study by the researcher through the findings and discussions in the literature. Data analysis was conducted through qualitative methods. The findings of this study showed that participant teachers expressed both positive and negative views about characteristics of textbook and usage of textbook. All of them stated that the textbook was their main tool for lesson preparations and teaching. They followed the curriculum from textbook and decided what to do, how to do, and when to do. Participants underlined that textbook was an effective helper but it needed improvement in many aspects. The findings also showed that teachers viewed that students did not use their textbook efficiently. All of the teachers expressed that students did not prefer to study from textbook if there were not any assignment or homework. Teachers specified that students could improve studying habits from textbook if teachers could direct them efficiently. The findings of this study might be useful to prepare more effective lessons for teachers, to give ideas to teachers for guiding their students for effective textbook usage, and to increase the quality of textbooks.
