EU a Rusko: vzájemné vztahy v oblasti energetiky / EU-Russia: mutual energy relationsBezrodná, Ksenija January 2009 (has links)
Depleting fossil fuel reserves in EU and energy consumption growth lead to the fact that the European Union is becoming increasingly dependent on energy imports. The most important energy partner of the EU is Russia which delivers the biggest volumes of oil and natural gas to european countries. High rate of energy dependency on Russia is - especially in the context of gas crisis - perceived as a threat to EU energy security and it is necessary to deal with it immediately. The aims of the European Union policy on energy are to achieve higher territorial diversification of fossil fuel suppliers and transit countries and diversification of the EU energy mix, to promote renewable forms of energy and to establish common energy market to ensure solidarity among EU member states. European Union also should learn how to act as "one actor" and "one voice" on energy relations with Russia because that could help to ensure better negotiation position and to become a sovereign partner in mutual energy relations with Russia.

A US and EU Comparison on Securing Critical Infrastructure / A US and EU Comparison on Securing Critical InfrastructureMcGrath, Kevin January 2017 (has links)
Kevin McGrath Abstract This thesis looks to assess the role of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in building critical energy infrastructure, and its implications for energy and national security. The clear majority of academic literature in energy security focuses exclusively on energy supply, and demand, but there is little written on the security issues facing countries when financing critical energy infrastructure projects. Through assessing the (1) recent history of privatization, (2) the development of the domestic PPP model, and (3) current relationships with PPPs in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and France this thesis will look to identify the underlying domestic cultural normative debate which is driving policy making decisions. By understanding the general historical trends of privatization, and economic ideologies in governments over the past 40+ years, we can see the current and future trends in building critical energy infrastructure. By understanding the constantly evolving factors, and interdependencies at play, this thesis highlights the role of public-private partnerships in critical energy infrastructure, and energy security in general.

Therefore, this research explores how the EU and ASEAN formulate their policies in the fight against terrorism with a main focus on the comparative analysis between these two organizations. The thesis will aim to analyze the legal and the organizational structure in order to understand the main gaps and the developments that EU and ASEAN acquired by their counter-terrorism measures. The role of the European union in the promotion of democracy in AzerbaijanMammadov, Elmar January 2019 (has links)
This research aims to exam the influence of the European Union through ENP and EP on democratization process in Azerbaijan, as it questions the success of the conditionality and normative pressure used by EU as a tool of inducing change in undemocratic states that are not members of the EU. Achieving this aim was supported by looking at state of human rights in Azerbaijan that centered on political prisoners, freedom of press and media, and civil societies and the degree of political participation by the citizens. This thesis used content analysis that looked at important and pertinent reports from the EU that included Action Plan, European Neighborhood Policy, Azerbaijan Country Report, Eastern Partnership Summit report and Freedom House Nations reports. The analysis of contents from these reports revealed that EU through its conditionality has achieved little influence in promoting democracy in Azerbaijani. The reason being that the EU members have competing interests when it comes to Azerbaijan since as some members are interested in energy resources in the country hence are less critical of the happenings in Azerbaijan. The fact that Azerbaijan is not interested in joining the EU in future as well limits the use of conditionality on Azerbaijan. The thesis has concluded by stating that for the EU to have a bigger influence in democratization processes in Azerbaijan, it needs to rethink its ENP and EP and be more vocal in human rights abuses.
