Missing Link Discovery In Wikipedia: A Comparative Study

Sunercan, Omer 01 February 2010 (has links) (PDF)
The fast growing online encyclopedia concept presents original and innovative features by taking advantage of information technologies. The links connecting the articles is one of the most important instances of these features. In this thesis, we present our work on discovering missing links in Wikipedia articles. This task is important for both readers and authors of Wikipedia. Readers will bene&amp / #64257 / t from the increased article quality with better navigation support. On the other hand, the system can be employed to support authors during editing. This study combines the strengths of different approaches previously applied for the task, and proposes its own techniques to reach satisfactory results. Because of the subjectivity in the nature of the task / automatic evaluation is hard to apply. Comparing approaches seems to be the best method to evaluate new techniques, and we offer a semi-automatized method for evaluation of the results. The recall is calculated automatically using existing links in Wikipedia. The precision is calculated according to manual evaluations of human assessors. Comparative results for different techniques are presented, showing the success of our improvements. Our system employs Turkish Wikipedia (Vikipedi) and, according to our knowledge, it is the &amp / #64257 / rst study on it. We aim to exploit the Turkish Wikipedia as a semantic resource to examine whether it is scalable enough for such purposes.

Wavelet Based Video Compression for A Low-Rate Data Link

Landry, Michael W., Lee, Jeffrey C. 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 25-28, 1999 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / Conventional video image transmission requires large data bandwidths, whether the signals are transmitted in analog or digital form. Many applications are limited to bandwidths that will not support image transmission unless high compression ratios are employed. Video compression techniques based on wavelet functions provide high data compression while preserving image quality, but are computationally demanding. Recently available high-integration devices that utilize wavelet basis functions for video compression have made possible low-cost high-performance video compression systems. Image data is more useful when provided with other data such as position information, telemetry, or other user data. This paper describes the technology, features, and limitations of a versatile low data rate system incorporating compressed video data.

Telemetry Network System (TmNS) Link Management Modeling and Simulation

O'Connell, Ray, Webster, Lyle 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2011 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Seventh Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 24-27, 2011 / Bally's Las Vegas, Las Vegas, Nevada / The TmNS system employs a novel channel access approach to achieve efficient use of the available spectrum while still providing a reliable bi-directional telemetry link. At the heart of this process is the Link Manager which performs real time adjustments to the transmission windows of radios as it senses changes in network connectivity, transmit queue loading, and network management input. Dynamic network capacity control based on radio queue loading is presented as an example of an operation to be verified by modeling and simulation.

Choosing the proper link function for binary data

Li, Jingwei, active 21st century 08 October 2014 (has links)
Since generalized linear model (GLM) with binary response variable is widely used in many disciplines, many efforts have been made to construct a fit model. However, little attention is paid to the link functions, which play a critical role in GLM model. In this article, we compared three link functions and evaluated different model selection methods based on these three link functions. Also, we provided some suggestions on how to choose the proper link function for binary data. / text

Synthesis of topologically complex molecules

Campbell, Christopher James January 2013 (has links)
The study of topologically complex molecules is necessary to better understand the knotted architectures that abound within Nature and are vital in the functioning of DNA and proteins. Metal based template strategies have played a key role in the successful synthesis of a number of interwoven structures constructed from small molecule building blocks, however novel methodology is crucial for the expansion of this fascinating field of chemistry. The strategy of linking the ends of a cyclic helicate has been developed within the Leigh group and applied with great success to the synthesis of the first molecular pentafoil knot. This thesis presents the application of this strategy to the high yielding synthesis of a molecular Solomon link. In depth studies of the self-assembly of a pentafoil knot and self-sorting reactions are also presented, offering insights into the nontrivial self-assembly of these topologically complex molecules.

Coexistence Mechanisms for Bluetooth SCO Link and IEEE 802.11 WLAN

Chiang, Shao-Hsien 17 January 2007 (has links)
Wireless network systems, such as IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLANs) and Bluetooth, are increasingly constructed in our surrounding environment. Although devices running these two wireless systems operate with different technologies, they both work in the 2.4 GHz ISM (Industrial, Scientific, and Medical) band, and therefore lead to interference. The problem of Bluetooth interfering with a WLAN is particularly serious with a Bluetooth device located in an area with more than one overlapping WLAN. Interference is not a significant problem if it only degrades data throughput. However, it is unacceptable if it causes disconnection of the Bluetooth SCO link (i.e., voice connection). This study presents mechanisms to sustain the quality of Bluetooth SCO link, under the interference, with only at a minor cost of WLAN¡¦s data throughput.
