Theological anthropology of Thomas F. Torrance : a critical and comparative explorationWei, Jing January 2014 (has links)
Despite tackling theological anthropology in one of his earliest works, this remains a minor theme in the writings of Thomas. F. Torrance. Yet his writings are replete with references to the nature of the human person from the perspective of the doctrine of God, creation and the person and work of Christ. This accent upon theology rather than anthropology is intentional in securing a strongly theological and Christological understanding of the person, largely in opposition to more anthropocentric approaches to the knowledge of God. The thesis explores the ways in which his handling of key Christian doctrines shapes his account of the human person as created and redeemed, relational and rational, dependent yet responsible. In particular, his early response to the Barth-Brunner controversy, via the interpretation of Calvin, is analysed before proceeding to his account of the anthropological significance of the vicarious humanity of Christ, the persons of the Trinity and the creation of the world through the divine Logos. To draw Torrance’s anthropological conclusions into clearer perspective, a series of comparison with other 20th century writers is drawn – Bultmann, Macmurray and Moltmann. What emerges is an appreciative reading of Torrance’s theological anthropology as an important resource in terms of its methodology and strong theological orientation, but one which identifies some important lacunae on the particularity of the human creature.

Kūrybiškumo ir intelekto sąsajos / Relations of creativity and intelligenceRutkauskaitė, Giedrė 23 June 2014 (has links)
Torrance creativity counting technology to WIT Kalbos turtingumas subtest. Participants answers of Kalbos turtingumas subtest were analyzed using E. P. Torrance creativity counting technology by defining conceptions such as flexibility, originality, and elaboration. Study results have showed that it is possible to adapt E. P. Torrance creativity counting technology to WIT Kalbos turtingumas subtest. It was perfectly distinguished all three creativity components: flexibility, originality, elaboration and they all were related to each other. Also it was discovered the relation of creativity and intelligence, the more creative is the person the higher IQ he has. We succeeded to pick out the strategies in the beginning of word and strategies in the end of word, that were used to facilitate words formation by the participants. The most frequent strategy in the beginning of word was when participants added vowels or consonants to the given first letter, the most frequent strategy in the end of word, when participants finished the word in the same case. Results have showed sex differences, girls were more creative than boys, age differences, older participants performed worse in creativity task in comparison with younger participants, the younger is participant the more creative he is in all creativity components... Communion with God : the Trinitarian soteriology of Thomas F. TorranceEugenio, Dick January 2011 (has links)
This thesis presents Thomas F. Torrance's Trinitarian soteriology, and as such seeks to combine the two most common but often separately treated doctrines in his theological cogitation: Trinity and soteriology. It argues that in a circular manner, Torrance's Trinitarian theology is explicitly soteriological and his soteriology is explicitly Trinitarian. This is because he (1) follows Barth's proposal that God's Being is inseparable from his Act, and vice versa, and (2) consistently employs his comprehensive theological rule that the Trinity is 'the ground and grammar of theology.' As such, this thesis also argues that not only is Torrance's soteriology Trinitarian, but that his soteriology could only be presented, understood and appreciated as Trinitarian. Non-trinitarian or implicitly Trinitarian readings of his soteriology cannot but fail to do justice to Torrance's theological consistency and genius. Furthermore, this thesis argues that Torrance's Trinitarian soteriology is consistent with his scientific and evangelical theology. On the one hand, Torrance's soteriological formulation follows scientific principles because he understands both the arche and telos of human salvation in strict accordance with the Being, Persons and Work of the Triune God. This is referred in the thesis as Torrance's kataphysic soteriology. On the other hand, Torrance's soteriological formulation follows an evangelical procedure grounded in the evangelical content of revelation. Because the content of God's Self-revelation is the Triune God reconciling the world to himself, Torrance understands that the Three Persons are actively involved in the salvific economy in strict accordance with their hypostases as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The evangelical procedure and sketch that Torrance employs is derived from 2 Corinthians 13:14, 'the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.' For Torrance, the ultimate telos of human salvation is participation in the very Life and Love of the Triune God. This may be referred to as humanity's perichoretic participation in the Communion of Love that God is. Humanity's sharing in the Triune Communion, however, is a mediated participation, encapsulated in the Athanasian aphorism 'from the Father through the Son in the Spirit and in the Spirit through the Son to the Father.' All three Persons of the Triune God fulfil distinct salvific agencies in accordance to their hypostases, but their distinct agencies have a united source and goal: the mediation of reconciliation with the Triune God. It is also argued that our participation in the Triune Communion is a human participation, or that we relate with the Triune God as humanized humans rather than as metamorphosized divine beings.

The Validity of the Torrance Tests of Creative ThinkingAvner, Brett K. 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to assess content and concurrent validity of the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT). The subjects were thirty-four art majors at North Texas State University between the ages of nineteen and thirty-nine. Content validity for the TTCT, as assessed by seven judges (art professors), was very high; concurrent validity was very low. Only one judge's ranking of the criterion was significantly intercorrelated with that of the other judges (p<.05). There were no significant rho correlations between the TTCT and the criterion (p<.05). The t-ratio differences between the males and females, for all tasks of the TTCT, were non-significant (p<.05). It was concluded that the TTCT were not appropriate for use with adult art majors.
