The diploma thesis deals with the self-tuning PSD controllers. The parameters of the model are obtained by a non-recurring method of least squares. With the assistance of the Matlab/Simulink programme, the individual processes of the PSD controller are compared on a second order system. In the thesis, a simulation of the self-tuning cascade control of PMSM‘s current and speed loop is created. The following part of the thesis covers the implementation of individual algorithms on the dSPACE platform for the real PMSM.

Automated calibration of a tractor transmission control unit

This paper presents an approach for an automated calibration process for electronic control units (ECU) of power split transmissions in agricultural tractors. Today the calibration process is done manually on a prototype tractor by experts. In order to reduce development costs the calibration process is shifted from prototype testing to software modelling. Simultaneous optimization methods are used within the software modelling to calculate new parameters. The simultaneous optimization includes objective evaluation methods to evaluate the tractor behaviour. With the combination of both methods inside the software modelling, the calibration process can be automated. The success of this approach depends on the quality of the software modelling. Therefore the identification of the initial prototype behaviour and the fitting of the tractor software model is done at the beginning. At the end of the automated calibration the validation and fine-tuning of the calculated parameters are done on the real tractor. These steps are condensed to a five step automated calibration process which includes simultaneous optimization and objective evaluation methods in several applications. After the detailed discussion of this automated calibration process one function of the ECU (one transmission component) will be calibrated through this process as example.

Analysis and simulation of centrifugal pendulum vibration absorbers

When environmental laws are constricted and downsizing of engines has become the reality of the vehicle industry, there needs to be a solution for the rise in torsion vibrations in the drivetrain. These increased levels of torsion vibrations are mostly due to excitations from the firing pulses, which in turn have become increased due to higher cylinder pressures. One of the solutions for further dampening the system is to add a centrifugal pendulum absorber to the flywheel, and predicting the behaviour of such a device has become imperative.The intent of this thesis is to create a model that will accurately emulate the effectiveness and functionality of a centrifugal pendulum absorber, so that it can be used in simulations to predict vehicle behaviour with its addition. To validate the model, a comparison is made between simulated results, using the model created in Adams/Car and Matlab, and road measurements conducted using a prototype acquired by the industry.The results from the simulations show that, with existing theory on the subject and software provided by Scania, an accurate model can be created. The reduction of torsion vibrations is evident, and the model’s behaviour correlates to that of the prototype.Future work on the subject requires a larger insight into pendulums tuned to multiple orders, and an extension of the model geometry would be advantageous.

Three-dimensional Modeling and Simulation of a Tuning Fork

The mathematical characterization of the sound of a musical instrument still follows Schumann’s laws [1]. According to this theory, the resonances of the instrument body, “the formants”, filter the oscillations of the sound generator (e.g., strings) and produce the characteristic “timbre” of an instrument. This is a strong simplification of the actual situation. It applies to a point source and does not distinguish between a loudspeaker and a three-dimensional instrument. In this work we investigate Finite-Element-based numerical simulations of eigenfrequencies and eigenmodes of a tuning fork in order to capture the oscillation behavior of its eigenfrequencies. We model the tuning fork as an elastic solid body and solve an eigenvalue equation derived from a system of coupled equations from linear elasticity theory on an unstructured three-dimensional grid. The eigenvalue problem is solved using the preconditioned inverse iteration (PINVIT) method with an efficient geometric multigrid (GMG) preconditioner. The latter allows us to resolve the tuning fork with a high resolution grid, which is required to capture fine modes of the simulated eigenfrequencies. To verify our results, we compare them with measurement data obtained from an experimental modal analyses of a real reference tuning fork. It turns out that our model is sufficient to capture the first eight eigenmodes of a reference tuning fork, whose identification and reproduction by simulation is novel to the knowledge of the author.

Johannesburg 1991. / The report describes the design of an algorithm which can be used for automatic controller tuning purposes. It uses an on-line parameter estimator and a pole assignrnent design method. The resulting control law is formulated to approximate a proportional-integral (PI) industrial controller. The development ofthe algorithm is based on the delta-operator, Some implementation aspects such as covariance resetting, dead zone, and signal conditioning are also discussed. Robust stability and performance are two issues that govern the design approach. Additionally transient and steady state system response criteria are utilized from the time and frequency domains. Microwave Circuit Optimization Exploiting Tuning Space Mapping

This thesis contributes to the development of tuning space mapping (TSM) for computer-aided design and optimization of microwave circuits. Tuning space mapping applies the traditional engineering tuning idea into the realm of space mapping. It takes advantage of both the efficiency of space mapping and the expertise required for tuning of engineering devices. We present the state of the art in tuning space mapping and selected applications, and discuss how it relates to regular space mapping. A TSM algorithm is illustrated and implemented. Tuning space mapping shifts the burden of optimization from expensive electromagnetic (EM) models to cheap and fast tuning models. Meanwhile, design accuracy is achieved by keeping the EM simulation result in an S-parameter file in the circuit simulator, while performing optimization only on certain circuit theory-based components that are introduced into the tuning model. One important step in this tuning approach is to translate the tuning parameters to adjustments in the design parameters. Up to now, this was implemented by experience. Scarcely any systematic algorithm was suggested. In this thesis, we introduce a systematic "calibration" process which aims at calibrating the EM dimensions by the optimizable tuning parameters. Automatic tuning of Electro-Optical Director

Directors designed for observation and fire control in naval environments consist of a mechanical pedestal moved by two electrical motors. To meet the high demands on director precision, a servo solution based on feedback control is used. The digital servo controller has to be tuned to meet demands on performance and stability. This report presents methods for automatic tuning, intended to replace today’s manual tuning procedures. System identification based on relay feedback and recursive least-squares approximations are combined with the Ziegler-Nichols and AMIGO tuning procedures for PI controllers are evaluated. Evaluations are performed in simulations, for which a SIMULINK model is constructed. Results indicate that the automatic tuning may perform well compared to the manual tuning used today, and that it could bring considerable reduction in the time required for tuning.
