No. of bitstreams: 1 EduardoJPSL.pdf: 687770 bytes, checksum: ea9efa61b72d97e3eb90288327c79c87 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2006-12-19 / The present dissertation analyses the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) and the short story written by Jo?o Guimar?es Rosa (1908-1967), A hora e vez de Augusto Matraga (1946) seeking to point out the possibility of the philosophic application of some Nietzschean ideas to enlarge the aesthetic value of the short story. It has been especially aimed at applying the concept of the noble superior being described by Nietzsche, the ubermensch, to the hero s ontological nature, Augusto Matraga. Nietzsche s postulates of the will to power, the elements suggested of the trial between Dionysus and Apollo and the ascetic ideal, will be especially relevant to this work, which intends to establish until what point the hero can be conceived as a good ascetic person, in so far as his noble ontological nature trespass the Christian morality, bringing him closer to the man who, according to Nietzsche, is beyond good and evil. Some Heideggerian concepts will also be relevant in order to reinforce the idea that the judgment created about Matraga is just an appearance that does not contemplate his essential Being, contributing to veil his real tragic-ontological valour, what implies that the aesthetic power of the short has been under valued / O presente trabalho tem como objetivo comparar a filosofia de Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) e o conto de Jo?o Guimar?es Rosa (1908-1967), A hora e vez de Augusto Matraga (1946), no intuito de revelar a possibilidade da aplica??o da filosofia nieztscheana para expandir o valor est?tico do conto e possibilitar a compreens?o do protagonista, Augusto Matraga, como o prot?tipo do ser superior nobre descrito por Nietzsche, o ubermensch.

Heroism in the matrix : an interpretation of Neo's heroism through the philosophies of Nietzsche and Chesterton

Reyburn, Duncan 23 July 2008 (has links)
This study explores the representation of the hero in Lawrence and Andrew Wachowski’s Matrix film trilogy, which comprises The Matrix (Wachowski, Wachowski&Silver 1999), Matrix Reloaded (Wachowski, Wachowski&Silver 2003a) and The Matrix Revolutions (Wachowski, Wachowski&Silver 2003b). Special reference is made to how Neo embodies a postmodern view of heroism. This implies an exploration into the relationship between Neo, the protagonist and hero in the Matrix trilogy, and his mythological predecessors, as well as the relationship between the representation of Neo and ideas concerning heroism. In order to further understand the nature of heroism in the Matrix trilogy, the ideas of two philosophers, namely Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) and Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874-1936), are explored and compared. It is argued in this study that the heroism presented to the viewer by the Matrix trilogy can be interpreted as being representative of the meeting of the apparently contradictory ideas of these two philosophers. Both of these philosophers, though striving for a heroic ideal, arrived at vastly different conclusions. This study, whilst considering the nature of heroism in these two views, also seeks offer an examination of the relationship that Nietzsche’s and Chesterton’s writings have to one another. This examination is not an attempt to take sides with either of these philosophers, but merely to point out certain aspects of their two distinctive viewpoints as they relate to the films in question. This study especially seeks to investigate the claim that Neo is the embodiment of the Übermensch, the figure that most clearly resembles Nietzsche’s heroic ideal. Chesterton’s views of heroism are referred to in order to counter-balance and contextualise Nietzsche’s views on this. Mainly ethical aspects of the character and narrative of the hero are focused on in this study in order to show, firstly, that these more abstract aspects are implicit in the representation of the hero in the Matrix trilogy, and secondly, that the hero belongs to a moral taxonomy. The final aim of this study is to present a coherent view of the many facets of heroism that incorporates an assessment of how philosophy, ideology and semiology underpin the visual. / Dissertation (MA (Visual Studies))--University of Pretoria, 2007. / Visual Arts / unrestricted

Metableties-eksemplariese ondersoek na die globaliseringsverskynsel en die implikasies daarvan vir die opvoeding en onderwys

Van Niekerk, Magrietha Elizabeth 11 1900 (has links)
Identiteitskrisis. Ontheemding Waarde- en normrelativisme. Gedegradeerde mens- en kindbeskouing. Sins- en waarheidsverduistering. / The metabletic-exemplary advance of the phenomenon of Globalism is examined in this study. The approach of four philosophers who may aptly be described as the philosophical pioneers of Globalism, has been focused upon. Feuerbach, Marx, Nietzsche and Dewey have certainly made an important contribution towards the advancement of this phenomenon. The advent of a pluralistic societal structure and the fundamental role of several ideologies, responsible for the advancement of a globalistic society, will also be focused upon. Various inauthentic and globalistic approach~s to education are analised in order to illustrate the impact of Globalism on education. Natural-scientific thought sets the pace in the globalistic order, with the result that reflective thought is not taken into account in education. The implications of the globalistic phenomenon for education are the following: Inauthentic job training. Identity crisis. - Alienation. - Value and norm relativism. - Degraded view of mankind and the child. - Obscurity of truth and meaning. / Educational Studies / M. Ed. (Historiese Opvoekunde)
