Through this theme, that we have decided to investigate, with the assumption that university education corresponds to a proficuous research area, due to it being “rugged terrain, filled with possibilities, but also filled with gaps and areas of doubt that beg to be investigated” ( ÁVILA, 2013. p.19). In this sense, the main objective of this research is to present a production map (of theses and dissertations) and of the discussion on university education that have taken place and been realized in all of the post graduate stricto sensu programs available in the public universities found in the State of Parana and in the PUC-PR, from the year 2000 through 2013. The purpose of this map would be to show the “state in which the art finds itself to be in”, in this research area and to point out, by means of an analysis of the summaries the evident and silenced themes in the discussions taken place regarding university education. That is due to the fact that we certain questions that must be answered, among them: how many theses and dissertations that have themes regarding university education that were produced, starting from the year 2000 all through to the year 2013, in the public universities found in the State of Parana and in the PUC-PR? In which post graduate stricto sensu programs can we find evidence of this theme? In which year can we find the greatest amount put forth? What are the discussions held regarding university education? Which are the themes focused on in these discussions and which ones demand further investigation? In order for us to reach our objectives, as well as find the answers we are looking for, we are basing our study on a methodology called “state in which the art finds itself to be in”, characterized by being bibliographical; qualitative (descriptive and analytical), and utilizing the interpretative technique based on content analysis (BARDIN, 1977). Our hypothesis is based on the assumption that the discussions about university education are centered around the post graduate stricto sensu programs regarding education and that have, at its core, themes relating to the absence of public policies regarding the qualifications necessary in order to teach and provide a higher education, effectively silencing any discussion of certain themes such as the ethical background of a university professor playing a role in their qualifications. Data was gathered electronically through digital libraries, academic archives, Cape’s thesis and dissertation banks and internet sites from public universities found in the State of Parana and in the PUC-PR. The data gathering was done using the following search terms: higher education, university learning, university education and university professor. From the analysis of preliminary data, we can see that the discussions regarding university education, make up a large portion of the papers produced in the time period studied. Out of 306 papers put forth with a theme dealing with higher education, 106 of them specifically deal with university education, corresponding 34% of the total. It is also evident that most of the papers that deal with university education seem to come from post graduate stricto sensu education majors, totaling up 78% of them. In 2013, of all the papers presented before a committee, 14% were about university education. 2006 saw a significant increase in papers presented relevant to university education, totaling 13%. We consider relevant to point out that out of 106 papers put forth and presented, 58 of them were done so in PUC-PR, representing 54%. In light of the data presented, we hope to highlight the importance of the investigation in the hope that it will give way to new research done in the topic and theme at hand, demonstrating the need to put some thought into the complex and contextualized world that is university education.

This paper aims to discuss the role of the Brazilian public university in the preparation of the academic for the job market. It was elected the Professional Training Program at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora as the analysis object, having been restricted the study to the projects of Professional Training developed at the Center for Biology of Reproduction. We started from the question that the work of guidance of Professional Training collegers conducted at the CBR provides, in addition to the basic objective of the program, the development of professional skills of the utmost importance for the formation of the student. Thereby, It could contribute to minimize the stress of the transition from the academic environment to the labor market, favoring adaptation of the academic to the new context of activity. The study was also intended to see, if confirmed the presence of activities involving professional skills, if it would come from a conscious motion of the project guiders, or if occurs randomly, as the result of individual actions. The findings pointed to the second case, ie, the absence of a unified work. Given this perception, it is proposed the institutionalization, at CBR, of the work focused on professional skills, as well as the development of an orientation program for the students. It is believed that the development of this issue is relevant because it contributes to the professional training of the academic and can be extended to other projects of Professional Training.

This Minor Field Study examines whether or not Batswana female master students at the University of Botswana, due to their university education, have become more politically aware and critical towards their national political system. Botswana has been chosen as a critical case on the basis of the country’s long lasting democracy and the Botswana’s positive attitude towards their government. The research takes off in theories such as democratic and critical citizen’s theory and feminism. Based on these theories, an analytical framework with the core assumption that female university education creates politically critical women, has been developed. The study is based on ten qualitative interviews with female master students. The interview questions concern the respondent’s political awareness, participation and their perceptions of political institutions, regime principles and governmental performance. The findings of the study are that university education makes women more politically aware, empowered and active, although we have found no significant correlation between university education and a rise in criticism among the interviewed women. However a majority of the respondents that actually have been affected by their education declare that they have become more politically critical.

Dvořáček, Alexandr January 2013 (has links)
This diploma thesis examines the impact and consequences of the implementation of deferred tuition in the Czech Republic on an quality and a system of financing of universities. The aim is to determine the real impact of tuition fees on improving the quality of university education and make recommendations for an implementation or a rejection of this form of financial participation. The first part of my thesis contains theoretical views on education and its role in the modern economy, it defines the term "education" as a kind of an economic good and describes the current system of university education in the Czech Republic. The empirical research will be comparing the current situation of university education system in the Czech Republic with the situation in the EU and OECD countries. The analysis will be based on statistical data on the number of people with university education, the volume of investment into this kind of education, the ratio of public and private funding system, the number of students enrolling on universities, total expenditures per student, applying of university student and other labor market indicators. Based on this comparison, the strengths and the weaknesses of the Czech university education will be established and its trend in the last 5 years. Within the scope of a planned introduction of direct financial participation of university students, the principle of deferred tuition will be considered as a potential tool not only to increase private funding in the system, but also to achieve a better standards of university education. The possible effects of the introduction of tuition fees in the country will be estimated based on the experience with the implementation of this system abroad (UK and Australia) and meta-analysis of expert opinion on financing university education system. The conclusion of the thesis includes a summary of the extent to which the inflow of private funds into the system changes the strengths and weaknesses of the university education in the Czech Republic and making recommendations for its implementation.

Panfilova, Kaselina January 2020 (has links)
1 University education of foreigners in the Czech Republic Abstract The thesis examines evolution, trends and structures of foreigners in tertiary education sector in the Czech Republic and at the same time aims at finding common aspects or differences between students with Czech citizenship and without it. In the theoretical part of examining university education for foreigners the concept of third demographic transition has been applied. The Associated Student Register Information (SIMS) has been used as the main data source. In this thesis, the analysis is based on individual anonymized data of graduates in the period between 2001 and 2017. The analysis focuses on net duration of study with such independent variables as gender, age, study field, form of study, type of university and citizenship. The analytical part also examines the relationship between gender and its possible dependence on citizenship, study field and on the net duration of study. One of the conclusions of this work is that the number of Czech students has been progressively decreasing in the last few years, while the number of foreign students in the Czech Republic is growing. Still, the net duration of study is shorter for Czech graduates than for foreigners, with an exception of Slovak students with a shorter net duration of study...
