O processo de mudanças contínuas, a que as empresas estão submetidas requer dos atores empresariais novas formas de atuação para garantir sua competitividade, e as universidades se constituem, principalmente no Brasil, onde não há uma tradição das empresas investirem em áreas de pesquisa e desenvolvimento próprias, um importante parceiro. Tendo isso em vista o objetivo central deste trabalho foi de analisar de que forma as UGDT (Unidades de Gestão e Desenvolvimento Tecnológico) propostas pelas universidades tem promovido a interação com o setor empresarial. A metodologia adotada foi de natureza qualitativa e exploratória, sendo conduzido um estudo de casos múltiplos em duas universidades gaúchas, a UFRGS (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul) e a PUCRS (Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul).
