Za novou Prahu! Tradice, vize a budování (obrazu) města po roce 1945 / Towards new Prague! Traditions, visions and constructing the city and its image after 1945

Kurz, Michal January 2015 (has links)
The thesis focuses on the construction and symbolic encoding of Prague from 1945 to the late 1950s, with emphasis on the Stalinist era. Based on an analysis of historical texts and architectural projects, the thesis studies the motivations and tactics, which the post-war political and professional elites sought to manifest their own values and ideological principles in the area of the capital city. Through the analysis of historical concepts of "old" and "new" Prague examines the thesis the changing relationship between tradition and modernity in the image of the city. The sociocultural phenomenon of Stalinism is thematized as a specific part of the long process of modernization, which passes through Prague during the first half of the 20th century. The thesis deals also with the attributes that should characterize the "new" socialist Prague and with the ways of using the Soviet patterns and local historical traditions. Keywords: Prague, city, image of the city, architecture, urbanism, memory, heritage, socialist realism, stalinism, 1950s

In her paper the author focuses on the period between 1938 and 1948 that marks the active existence of Brno's institute which was the most progressive institution within the field of regional planning in that era and whose activities have never been described sufficiently. The main initiators and authors of the institute concept were Bohuslav Fuchs, Jindřich Kumpošt and Josef Mrkos; later a significant figure of the Czech regional planning - Emanuel Hruška joined them. The dissertation defines the urbanistic works of the specified period as continuance of the previous development forcibly interrupted in 1948. In order to understand the motives for the regional planning, this paper outlines the principal idealistic concepts of the planners: criticism of liberalism, holism, technocracy, and redefinition of so called scientific stage of functionalism related to the problem of mental functions in the architecture. Náměstí míru - dostavba a rekonstrukce veřejného prostoru v Brně / Náměstí míru - extension and rehabilitation of public space in Brno

Šnerch, Jiří January 2017 (has links)
The diploma thesis Peace of square - completion and reconstruction of the public space in Brno is the topic I chose to elaborate my final work. This is an urban study that seeks to find the most appropriate space solution for a newly created square. Peace Square is located in the part of Brno called Stránice, in the saddle between the Yellow Hill and Kraví hora. It is the natural center of the adjacent Masaryk district, built in the beginning of the 20th century. Significant factors influencing the design are indeed a rich background of civic amenities in the form of the Church of St. Augustine, observatory, park and swimming pool at Kraví hora, two primary schools and gymnasium near the square. The concept is based on the creation of a new compact apartment building, which forms a stable backdrop to the newly created square in front of the Church of Sts. Augustina. The square is open to the auditorium where there is a park on the hill Kraví hora. The proposal emphasizes the compactness of the building, the multifunctionality of objects and the transport hierarchy. This brings people to the forefront and their everyday life and needs. The concept reflects the modern urbanistic trends of the 21st century.

Územní studie jižního rozvojového území města Brna / Urban study of development area city - Brno

Mokrý, Stanislav January 2017 (has links)
The theme of my diploma thesis is the elaboration of the Territorial Study of the South Development Area of the City of Brno. It is a very displaced area, in the Brno-South district around the villages of Dolní Heršpice and Přízřenice. It is therefore separated from the city center by the D1 motorway and circumscribed in the east and west by the high-speed communications - Vídeňská Street and D2 motorway. There are two historical villages inside the assigned area, which are today formally part of Brno - Dolní Heršpice and Přízřenice. There are also several industrial sites, both used and unused. All these are in the eastern part of the territory between Havránková / Zelná / Modřická street and river Svratka. The vast majority of the area consists of used agricultural land. The embossment is very flat, the overall elevation between the lowest and the highest point is 16 meters, while the distance of these points is almost 2.5 km. In the northern part, the Leskava stream forms a shallow valley. The aim of the proposal was to investigate the possible capacity of this territory for the new predominantly residential district of the city if the need to create new housing capacities in the southern part of the city would arise in the near future.
