Garbage Collection in Software Performance Engineering / Garbage Collection in Software Performance Engineering

Libič, Peter January 2015 (has links)
Title Garbage Collection in Software Performance Engineering Author Peter Libič peter.libic@d3s.mff.cuni.cz Advisor doc. Ing. Petr Tůma, Dr. petr.tuma@d3s.mff.cuni.cz Department Department of Distributed and Dependable Systems Faculty of Mathematics and Physics Charles University Malostranské nám. 25, 118 00 Prague, Czech Republic Abstract The increasing popularity of languages with automatic memory management makes the garbage collector (GC) performance key to effective application execution. Unfortunately, performance behavior of contemporary GC is not well understood by the application developers and often ignored by the per- formance model designers. In this thesis, we (1) evaluate nature of GC overhead with respect to its effect on accuracy of performance models. We assess the possibility to model GC overhead as a black-box and identify workload characteristics that contribute to GC performance. Then we (2) design an analytical model of one-generation collector and a simulation model of both one-generation and two-generation collectors. These models rely on application characteristics. We evaluate the accuracy of such models and perform an analysis of their sensitivity to the inputs. Using the model we expose the gap between under- standing the GC overhead based on knowing the algorithm...

Vliv institucionálního rámce na výkonnost firem v období kontrakce ekonomik

Olbrecht, Vojtěch January 2015 (has links)
Olbrecht, V. Impact of the Institutional Framework on Firm's Performance during the Economic Contraction. Diploma thesis. Brno: Mendel University in Brno, 2015. The diploma thesis focuses on exploring the impacts of the institutional framework on the firm's performance in the stage of economic contraction. The thesis extends current research by using microeconomic approach, the stage of economic contraction and TFP approach. By using panel regression with fixed effects it results in different effects and importance of some of the institutional factors. Political and legal environment is overvalued in the developed countries, in contradiction to the post-transition economies where improvements of this environment could contribute to economic performance. The size of government is overall negatively correlated with the performance while the openness of the economy to the foreign trade is correlated positively. Surprisingly, the worse macroeconomic condition is connected with increased firm's performance.

The Role of Nigeria in Integration processes in Africa

Akwari, Henry Onyemaechi January 2015 (has links)
Regional integration such as ECOWAS is believed to be an important element to stimulate trade, which could lead to economic growth and development for countries in this regional group. Despite the efforts made at creating this regional group in West Africa, the benefits from intra regional trade have been unsatisfactory. The study examined the role of Nigeria in the integration processes in Africa and to quantify the impact of this regional group on trade and economic performance in Nigeria. Cross sectional time series data for 17 years from 1996 to 2012 were analysed using an augmented (or extended) gravity equation. Results show that being in ECOWAS has contributed very little to trade and economic performance in Nigeria. Lack of political will to implement treaty provisions, poor infrastructure, non diversification of individual countries' economies among other have been identified as the problem causing the very low level of intra regional trade in ECOWAS. There are potential gains to be made in ECOWAS including Nigeria if significant effort are made to implement policy recommendations

Zhodnocení vlivu importu zahraničních plemen koní na sportovní výkonnost populace teplokrevných koní v České republice

Makovská Krčová, Sylvie January 2013 (has links)
The objective of the thesis was to evaluate the effect of foreign sports breeds of horses in the breeding of warm-blooded horses upgraded for jumping performance in the Czech Republic. The source for creating a database were data from show jumping competitions obtained from the Přehledu sportovních koní ČR (Survey of sports horses of the Czech Republic) 2000 -- 2009. The sports performance of the horses is expressed as PPB (average auxiliary points). The data were processed statistically using the GLM linear model in the UNISTAT 5.1 statistical programme. If the effect was statistically significant we used Scheffe's method of comparison to compare the multiple differences in the values. On the basis of statistical evaluations of groups of breeds representing the individuals born in the Czech Republic we discovered that the pedigree group AUTWB4 achieved the highest PPB value (4.52), i.e. 50% blood of the Austrian warm-blooded horse. The most numerous pedigree group in the entire population of the monitored sports horses based on the number of PPB points (14.36%) was the group where no dominant breed prevailed in the pedigree. The most frequently used foreign breed in breeding horses for show jumping performance is the Holstein warm-blooded horse. In evaluations of the performance of horses based on the country of their birth the highest PPB values (4.25) were achieved by individuals born abroad. In terms of the effect of the year of their start the highest PPB value (3.37) was achieved by horses starting in 2009 when also most of the PPB values (10.72%) were recorded. Evaluations of the differences between the sexes showed that stallions achieved the highest PPB values (3.84) and that the most numerous group were mares (47.20%). In terms of the differences in the ages of the horses the highest PPB value (3.43) was achieved in the group of 9-year-old horses and the most numerous group in show jumping competitions based on the number of PPB's (14.91 %) were 6-year-old horses.

Využití databáze mechanizačních prostředků pro hodnocení nákladů na údržbu vybraných parkových ploch

Čech, Marek January 2015 (has links)
This thesis is focused on costs of machinery operations used for public green maintenance. The literary part describes the methodology and calculations of all costs related to the work with machinery, and it also includes the information about maintenance costs for chosen types of vegetation in public green. Results of this work were applied in the chosen area -- II. Building District Ostrava-Poruba where we can find all typical types of vegetation of public green in czech cities. Calculations of costs of grass mowing and leaf removing in spring and fall were compared with real costs of those services which were offered by a company which succeeded in the competition. This comparison gives an information to the municipality about real costs of those services, and about possibilities of costs saving if the municipality would do those services on its own.

Zhodnocení výkonnosti koní v soutěžích vytrvalosti v ČR

Hodošiová, Jana January 2015 (has links)
In the literature review I focused on the history of this discipline in the Czech Republic, its characteristics, equipment, the description of an ideal horse for this sport and a list of suitable breeds. The aim was to compile a database of horses which competed in national and international competitions in the Czech Republic and statistically evaluate the effect of the gender of rider and horse, breed, country of origin of the horse, its age and color on the average speed and score in the race. The results showed that statistically significant effect had the rider's gender on the speed, women were faster than men. Furthermore, the country of origin had an impact on score, horses from the US had higher score than those from Russia and Germany, the horse without a country of origin were worse than the horses from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and the US. Likewise, horses age affected the score, a different pairs were between the group of unknown age and age groups between 6-13 years (with the exception of the twelve years old) and between a group of horses five years and horses at the age of 7,8, 10,11 and 13 years. A statistically significant effect of horses gender, breed and color was not demonstrated.
