The Traveling Car Renter Salesman Problem, or simply Traveling Car Renter Problem (CaRS), is a generalization of the Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) where the tour can be decomposed into contiguous paths that are traveled by different rented cars. The objective is to construct a minimal cost Hamiltonian circuit, considering the penalty paid for changing cars in the tour. This penalty is the cost of returning a car to the city where it was rented. CaRS is classified as an NP-hard problem. This work studies the CaRS version classified as: complete, total, unrestricted, with no repetition, free and symmetric. This research is focused on hybrid procedures that combine metaheuristics and methods based on Linear Programming (LP). The following methods were investigated: scientific algorithms (ScA), variable neighborhood descent (VND), adaptive local search (ASLP) and a new variant of ALSP called iterated adaptive local search (IALSP). The following techniques are proposed to deal with CaRS: ScA+ALSP, ScA+IALSP and ScA+VND+IALSP. A mixed integer programming model is proposed for CaRS which was used in the ALSP and IALSP. Non-parametric tests were used to compare the algorithms within a set of instances from the literature.

An investigation of excess as symptomatic of Neo-Baroque identified in the work of selected South African artists

Greyvenstein, Lisa 22 August 2013 (has links)
This research investigates the Neo-Baroque aesthetic of excess in contemporary South African art, and explores reasons for the emergence of this style. It investigates artists who use their bodies as a site of resistance, to contest or reconstruct the dominant social values which establish differences between bodies to place them within the marginal position of ‘Other’. This investigation relates to post-colonial concerns. The artists’ exploitation of the Neo-Baroque aesthetic of excess as a comment on social concerns reveals a sense of crisis within South African society, similar to the conditions from which the seventeenth century Baroque style evolved. Neo-Baroque aesthetics of excess manifest in a variety of ways, and are particularly evident when artists transgress social boundaries placed on the body through abject and erotic associations. Excess ultimately arises from complexity, as hybrid art forms are created from the combination of media and content found within the art work. / Dissertation (MA)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Visual Arts / unrestricted

Luczkiewicz, Dulciane Alves 18 March 2015 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2015-12-03T18:35:32Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Dulciane_Alves_Luczkiewicz.pdf: 1466208 bytes, checksum: 50c6d7ca5e70b801f461de01e4c4b189 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-03-18 / The objective of this study was to analyze, considering the brazilian cultural diversity, if there is a statistically meaningful difference in the level of moral development of Accounting students from different universities. The study was based on Kohlberg's moral development Theory, which presents three stages of moral development: pre-conventional (stages 1 and 2), conventional (stages 3 and 4) and post-conventional (stages 5 and 6), and on Hofstede's Culture Theory, which presents the following dimensions: power distance, collectivism versus individualism, femininity versus masculinity, uncertainty avoidance and long-term orientation versus short term orientation. The results were obtained through a descriptive analysis, ANOVA test, equality of proportion test, Pearson's correlation, confidence interval for average and p-value. The variables related to moral development, age, gender, religion and professional experience did not present statistically meaningful difference in the regions surveyed, what did not occur with the variable education, which proved to be a strong and consistent variable when compared to moral development. This study also aimed to verify if Hofstede's cultural dimensions presented significance between the studied regions. Difference was found in the following dimensions: power distance, individualism and long-term orientation. It is also possible to observe that the p index of moral development presents a statistically meaningful relation with the regions. Another important find in this study is that there is no statistically meaningful relation between the p index of moral development and the cultural values among the students that participated in this research in the regions surveyed.
