Unknown Date (has links)
This study aimed to investigate the status of principles’ visionary leadership and teachers’ job involvement in elementary schools in Keelung City, to analyze the differences of perceptions from different background teachers about principles’ visionary leadership and teachers’ job involvement, and to explore the relationship among these two variables. At last, predict teachers’ job involvement by principles’ visionary leadership. Questionnaire survey method was adopted in this study. The samples are teachers of public elementary schools in Keelung City, including 513 teachers from 34 elementary schools. There were 502 valid questionnaires finally used in the statistic analysis, and effective response rate is 97.86%. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression. The conclusions are as follows: 1. Perceptions about principles’ visionary leadership from elementary school teachers in Keelung City is mid-high level.Among all, the sense to the “consensus and internalization of vision” is relatively the highest, and then the orders from high to low are “construction and development of vision”, “practice and promotion of vision” and “feedback and correction of vision”. 2. Perceptions about teachers’ job involvement from elementary school teachers in Keelung City is mid-high level. Among all, the sense to the “job enjoyment” is relatively the highest, and then the orders from high to low are “job self-evaluation”, “job concentration”, “job identification” and “job participation”. 3. Teachers of elementary schools in Keelung City are male, 41 to 50 years old, the chief of department, and from school which has 12 or 13-23 classes show higher perception about principles’ visionary leadership. 4. Teachers of elementary schools in Keelung City serve 11-20 years in school, work as the chief of department, and from school which has less than 12 or more than 24 classes school show higher perception about teachers’ job involvement. 5. There is significant positive correlation between principles’ visionary leadership and teachers’ job involvement in elementary schools in Keelung City. The higher the behaviors of principals’ visionary leadership are, the scores of teachers’ job involvement are also higher. 6. Learning and leadership as key to organisational development : a study of how a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in the South African educational field grew from a regional entity into a national entity.

Ncokazi, Sandile Washington 15 May 2015 (has links)
This study examines the nature of learning organisations with a special focus on how these organisations manage to sustain and reinvent themselves despite changing contexts. In particular, the study focuses on one NGO operating in the South African education field. The intention of this research report is to determine how the specified organisation has been able to sustain and expand its operations while remaining effective and relevant despite changing political, economic and social contexts. The findings of the study have been drawn from interviews held with key personnel who presently work or previously worked for the organisation under study. Data from the interviews was triangulated with data extracted from the organisation’s annual reports. The data shows that the organisation grew from a regional entity to having offices all over South Africa. In order to do so, the organisation had to adapt to changing circumstances which it did by learning from experts and other organisations worldwide that were involved in similar pursuits. From these sources, the organisation learnt about innovative literacy materials and development strategies. The spearhead for many years behind these developments was a leader with a strong and charismatic personality and so, ultimately, it is difficult to distinguish between her personal learning and the organisational learning that took place.

Revelating Hicksites and prophesying Seventh-day Adventists : individual religious experiences and community ethics in antebellum America

Ozanne, Rachel Lauren 14 July 2014 (has links)
Historians of antebellum America have focused on shifting social patterns caused by trends such as democratization and proto-industrialization to explain the rise of new religious communities. These studies, however, have overlooked the ways that the members of these new groups and their visionary leaders understood their goals--in particular their desire to develop new ethical systems from the religious experiences of their founders. My study combines more traditional historical understandings of community formation in antebellum American with methods employed by scholars of religion to provide a clearer picture of the development of unique groups during this era of increased religious diversity. In particular, I argue that scholars must employ both Ann Taves' and William James' methods to study visions and revelations to comprehend how communities addressed the problem of religious experiences' interiority through communal processes of evaluation. To that end, I investigate Elias Hicks, founder of Hicksite Quakerism, and Ellen G. White, the founder of Seventh-day Adventism. My work on Hicks and White focuses on the processes by which their visionary ethics were transmitted into and practiced by their communities over time. Taken together, their ministries demonstrate that the visions of founders typically spoke to ethical issues--broadly and narrowly construed. Both leaders addressed personal, interpersonal, and social ills, and they each presented themselves as the model of obedience to their own visions and revelations in their autobiographies. Yet they faced different issues in convincing people of the truth of their visions for their communities. All Quakers expected their ministers to receive revelations during worship, so Hicks only had to persuade them that following revelation over scripture represented true Quaker orthodoxy. Sabbatarian Adventists, however, came from a wide variety of denominational backgrounds, so White had to persuade some of them not only to accept her teachings, but the existence of visions in the first place. Ultimately, their different views of the trajectory of history influenced their lasting legacies to their communities: eventually Hicks' specific teachings fell out of favor among Hicksites who maintained only his commitment to continuing, progressive revelation. White's teachings, however, remain both influential and hotly contested, because her reputation as prophet is bound up in Adventists' belief in the end of days. / text

Administrators' Perceived Knowledge, Importance, and Perceptions of the International Society for Technology in Education Standards for Administrators and Virginia Technology Standards for Instructional Personnel

Hill Muchenje, Kimberly Tomeka 10 August 2018 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to determine administrators’ self-assessed perceived knowledge, importance, and perceptions of the International Society for Technology in Education Standards for Administrators (ISTE Standards-A) and the Virginia Technology Standards for Instructional Personnel (VTSIP). A survey instrument based on the ISTE Standards-A and the VTSIP was used in the study. 43 administrators in Virginia participated in the study. The participants were members of the Virginia Association of Elementary or Secondary School Principals. The study found that administrators perceived their knowledge of the ISTE Standards-A as good and their knowledge of the VTSIP as excellent. Administrators strongly agreed that both the ISTE Standards-A and the VTSIP were important in their practice. Additionally, their perceptions of both the ISTE Standards-A and the VTSIP were excellent. There were no statistically significant differences found between the perception of the standards and most of the demographic variables. However, there was a statistically significant difference found between male and female perceptions of the VTSIP. Also, there was a statistically significant difference found between administrators’ perceptions of the ISTE Standards-A and perceptions of the VTSIP. The study provided quantitative data on administrators’ perceived knowledge, importance and perceptions of practicing the ISTE Standards-A and the VTSIP. The findings of this study provide valuable information for administrators as they investigate their technology leadership and note areas of improvement, and for the Virginia Department of Education, local education agencies and universities. It is recommended that future research look qualitatively at administrator perceptions of the standards and why males and females differ in their perception of the standards. Further research is also recommended using a larger sample in the state or nationwide, and conducting more research to look into administrative leadership preparation programs, administrators’ perceptions of practice, program alignment or administrator implementation of the ISTE Standards-A and the VTSIP.

A conceptual analysis of visionary leadership and its implications for educational transformation in schools

Galloway, Greta Marie Mandy 04 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MPhil)--University of Stellenbosch, 2004. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: There are many new developments in education taking place specifically in the field of schooling. Some of these developments - school based management, OBE curriculum developments and the devolution of control to the school level have brought with it many significant policy changes. Many educational leaders are struggling to keep abreast with these transformational changes that are confronting them with regard to leadership and management of education, and educational structures within the school. Therefore, visionary leadership is an essential ingredient in understanding the democratic changes and restructuring taking place at present. Many principals at schools are struggling with the changes, while possibly not fully understanding the political, social and economic dynamics of these changes. This assignment seeks to establish the need for visionary leadership in order to meet the challenges and constraints educational leaders face in their attempts to effect transformation in South Africa. I strongly identify with the democratic principles used to overcome the challenges and constraints to redress education in South African schools. Interviews were conducted and data was constructed with principals of six different schools in the East London area. The educational leaders interviewed, ranged from primary to high school principals giving a vast expanse of expertise as leaders within a specific school community. This assignment is based on the assumption that there is scope for educational leaders to bring about greater change and transformation in schools. There are many ways to visualise an effective school landscape based on a combination of personal, organisational and professional strategies. This assignment can be considered a contribution in this regard.

The concept of Agency has to be understood as professionals that are in leadership positions inside the organization and are working for the stockholders. Among the many leadership theories developed in the last ten decades there is the group of Contemporary Leadership Theories and in this group there is one theoretical approach that outstands, the Visionary Leadership approach developed by Burt Nanus in 1992. This approach suggests a way of leadership that holistically benefits the organization which results are reflected in every stakeholder. Organizations inevitably achieve success under this kind of management. Therefore the purpose of this study is to analyze if nowadays successful leaders agree with the approach suggested by Burt Nanus and if they do so, how this is put into practice. In order to obtain the data for this study, a research was conducted with the first leader of many profit-oriented companies. Data were collected through a questionnaire using the Likert 5 possibilities scale in order to asses the degree of agreement / disagreement with the Visionary Leadership concepts. Also was researched with those leaders, which were the recognized drivers that lead to the development of this leadership style. The obtained results point that the researched leaders considers themselves visionary leaders, validating the visionary leadership concept and suggesting ways to be used in its development.

Determinants of school success in disadvantaged environments

Mampuru, Marisane Edward 30 June 2003 (has links)
Learners in disadvantaged environments are less likely to do well at school. Yet some of the most successful schools operate in such environments. The purpose of this study was to establish the relative influence of various determinants of school success in disadvantaged environments. To this end literature study was done in two phases. The first resulted in a taxonomy of success factors, which was then used to guide the second in-depth phase. Thereafter an empirical study was done, involving qualitative field work at four successful schools in disadvantaged environments. Empirically it was discovered that there is no single most important success factor because all success factors are interrelated and interdependent. The over-arching success factor discovered in this study which was involvement of all stakeholders. / Education / M.Ed.
