Water world : An artificial shape of meaningEriksson, Julia January 2015 (has links)
Water World is a water reservoir in the shape of a mountain, with a steel grid body and a shell of shot concrete. It is situated in the national city park Lill-Jansskogen in Stockholm and the emergence of this project is the disrepair of an existing reservoir. Humans, like all things alive, are dependent on water. We survive approximately three days without water. The stored water is the start of civilization, the first of all functions in society we would not cope without in case of collapse. Instead of habitually reshaping nature in accordance with our needs and wishes, this reservoir mimics nature with synthetic means. It questions the idea that we by technical means could create an equilibrium between nature and late capitalist society. Our systems handling water enables modern life. Water World celebrates this function, and life. After construction the man-made surface is exposed to decay and with time the interior structure will stand as a ruin marking the end of the era of globalisation. Water World hyllar denna funktion, och livet.

Finanční náklady na retenci vody v krajině a tvorbu mokřadů na území České republiky. / The costs of water retention in landscape and wetland creation in Czech republic.ČERNÝ, Jan January 2011 (has links)
Different types of man-made retention systems (polder, small water reservoir, large water reservoir) have been characterized by means of their retention potential and cost of retention per one cubic meter. As part of these man-made retention systems, wetland area has been created. Its acreage and build expense has been counted up inreference to total area, which differed within various types of retention systems. The results of these calculations, Hessenian method, and the metohod of agricultural land use were used to evaluate natural river basin and its retention potential. The calculations reveal, that model locality of natural river basin has the lowest value, when used for agriculture cultivation. Hessenian method showed the highest value. The expense of substituting the natural retention of the model locality with different man-made retention systems is estimated to be 0.5?1.6 billion CZK.

Water and pollutant flowsthrough the MejdurechyeReservoir, UzbekistanKoutsouris, Alexander January 2008 (has links)
<p>Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan, has faced water scarcity and low water during several years as a consequence of Uzbekistan’s extensive irrigation of cotton fields. The environmental status of the Mejdurechye Reservoir, which is the largest in the lower Amudarya Delta, is therefore of great local importance. This thesis quantifies pollutant mass flows through the reservoir, concidering for instance salt, DDT and Lindane (HCH). Surface water flow paths through Mejdurechye Reservoir are also conceptualized in order to provide suggestions for future a possible monitoring program.</p><p>Results show that chloride concentrations have decreased during July 2007-2008 with at least 10% in spite of a large specific evaporation and a reservoir volume reduction of at least 60%. The most important implication of this is that pollutants in the reservoir cannot have been subject of evapoconcentration during this period. DDT and Lindane have on the other hand increased with up to 50000% in concentration and 20000% mass compared to measurements dating back to 2002. A rough age estimation of DDT shows that the DDT has been mobilized recently. The results of this thesis may prove valuable when forming environmental policy plans and setting up future monitoring programs.</p>

Vandens telkinių pakrančių temperatūros kaitos režimas / Regime Of Temperature Change On Water Reservoir RiparianVaina, Karolis 15 June 2009 (has links)
Darbo objektas – Tyrimui pasirinktas objektas – Karkliškės tvenkinys esantis Akademijos miestelyje.
Darbo tikslas – Nustatyti vandens telkinio pakrantės temperatūros variacija dirvožemio paviršiuje įvairaus nuolydžio ir orientacijos šlaituose.
Darbo metodai.
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Each water reservoir more or less influences its surroundings. One of the forms of influence is an effect on microclimate that occurs owing to evaporation. All communities have typical phenomena consentaneous with natural repetitive processes. Every species has characteristic successive periods of vegetation and bloom that are harmonized and adjusted by basic climatic gradients.
Subject of research-The Karkliškės pond in Akademija small town has been chosen for the experiment.
Aim of research-The purpose of the work is to establish the influence of temperature variation on flora in differently inclined and orientated slopes of a water reservoir.
Eethodology-Two pond slopes – northern and southern – have been chosen and measured. The northern slope has incline of 250 and the southern one of 370. The measurements have been fulfilled in six places of each variant. The measurements were carried out from the 12th of April to the 28th of October every 10 days. All measurements were fulfilled at 10 am, altogether 21 measurements.
Results of research-The contrast of flora between the southern and the northern slope shows that it is situated out of continuity due to position and orientation. Appropriate differences in temperature and humidity are observed too. However, if we made a section of both slopes we would observe more successive gradient of microclimate and flora. On northern slope, which is cold and wet, most grass form truss, blossom and crop in late spring. On dry and... [to full text]

This study was developed in order to diagnose the environmental impacts in the insertion area of urban surface reservoir Açude Grande in Cajazeiras city / PB and its surroundings. Among its objectives is to highlight environmental analysis through the perception of its users, detecting the level of the same information about the impacts generated by the occupation and anthropic intervention and characterization of water quality and its effects on human health, identifying the interest of them to participate in actions to improve the environmental quality of the area. For its realization was developed a literature search followed by the field study, where worked, using the following instruments for data collection: Questionnaire; free words association, with the terms inducers: Açude Grande, Environment, Collection and analysis of the waters of Açude Grande reservoir surface. This search revealed that around it dominates the occupation of buildings and the few bright areas are devoid of riparian vegetation and used for rural activities (agriculture and animal creation). Some of the interviewed did not have emotional relationships with the area, with regard to environmental quality showing disregard the importance of container to the environment in contrast show an appreciation for your landscape function. To characterize the water quality of the reservoir was performed to collect his loco and sequentially physico-chemical and microbiological, in the period 2009 October to 2010 February, supported in the legislation (CONAMA 357/05 and Decree 518/04) which found that some parameters are out of compliance for human consumption. It is concluded that the dam is in an area with high risk of pollution and / or contamination due to increasing urbanization that has been suffering, highlighting the need for interventions regarding the production of a recovery program of environmental quality in the area of their surroundings, ranging from the recovery of riparian vegetation to the deployment of permanent programs of Environmental Education, rooted in the pursuit of environmental awareness and exercise their rights as citizens.
