Wave transformation and alongshore sediment transport due to obliquely oriented shoreface-connected ridges

Xu, Tongtong 07 January 2016 (has links)
The inner continental shelf off the western half of the barrier island Fire Island, NY, is characterized by a series of obliquely oriented shoreface-connected ridges. The long-term historic shoreline record shows persistent undulations in shoreline shape at an alongshore scale similar to the alongshore scale of the ridges. This suggests that the ridges affect the wave transformation, alongshore sediment transport and corresponding shoreline change. These processes are investigated by utilizing the SWAN (Simulating WAves Nearshore) model, forced with realistic wave parameters, on a simplified, synthetic bathymetry replicating the scales of the shoreface-connected ridges. Results indicate that the relative magnitude of alongshore variations of modeled waves, alongshore transport, and the corresponding shoreline change are highly correlated with the relative orientation of the incoming waves to the ridges. Alongshore variations in both wave height and direction along the breaker line are much stronger when the predominant wave direction is along the main axis of the ridges rather than perpendicular to the ridge crests. This pattern of wave height variation is further explained by evaluating the directional energy spectrum and using a reverse ray-tracing technique. The gradients of the alongshore sediment transport, which lead to shoreline change, also appear to be stronger for waves with an angle of incidence similar to the ridge orientation. These results help explain the relationship between the oblique shoreface-connected ridges and the corresponding shoreline changes and shed light on the connection between the inner-shelf ridges and persistent shoreline undulations for the Western portion of Fire Island.

Ochrana obce proti extravilánové vodě / Study of possibilities protection against rural zone water

Matějková, Jana January 2015 (has links)
The first part of this thesis deals with the surface runoff and countermeasures. This allows us to control the hydrological conditions in the basin. Methods of protection against soil surface runoff are mentioned. A separate chapter is focused on dry retention tanks. Aim of the second part of the thesis is to design specific measures in the village of Otaslavice to prevent external area water from flooding the village. This issue has been dealt with for the whole basin . The Guidelines for very small basin runoff calculation was used to evaluate the runoff there, hydro technical solution was assessed and designed using the HEC-RAS 4.1.0 and AutoCAD 2013.

Technické a vodohospodářské řešení rekonstrukce hráze VD Ivanské jezero na Javornickém potoce / Reconstruction of dam Ivanské jezero

Svatoš, Petr January 2019 (has links)
Water structure Ivanské jezero was built on the Javorník Creek back between 1905-1907. The main purpose of the dam was accumulation of high volumes of water and protection of the territory downstream. After the adjustment for higher flows on the river Kněžna in Rychnov nad Kněžnou, which was completed in 1937, the water structure lost the protective function. On the basis of an assessment made by Povodí Labe in 1993 - due to the low volume of the reservoir there is no flood wave transformation and already while flow rates greater than Q50 pass through dam, it results in overflowing the dam. To this date water structure Ivanské jezero is in very poor condition due to degradation of the binding material in the dam. The goal of the thesis is to propose a procedure for removal of the existing structure and the subsequent construction of the design and construction of a new – gravity, concrete dam. This work will contain technological removal process of current dam and possible usage options for the dam material. In the next step a new structure will be designed in the place of existing dam. After new design is completed there will be hydraulic assessment of the functional objects, hydrology and stability on the dam.

Αριθμητική προσομοίωση δισδιάστατης μη συνεκτικής ροής ελεύθερης επιφάνειας κατά τη διάδοση μη γραμμικών κυμάτων πάνω από πυθμένα πεπερασμένου βάθους / Numerical simulation of two-dimensinal, inviscid, free-surface flow during

Δημακόπουλος, Άγγελος 14 May 2007 (has links)
A method for the numerical simulation of two-dimensional, inviscid, free-surface flow resulting from the propagation of regular gravity water waves over topography with arbitrary bottom shape is presented. The method is based on the numerical solution of the Euler equations subject to the fully nonlinear free-surface boundary conditions and the appropriate bottom, inflow and outflow conditions using a hybrid scheme of finite-differences and pseudo-spectral method. The formulation includes a boundary-fitted transformation. The validation of the pressure solver is accomplished by applying it to the two-dimensional, temperature, steady problem, under differing boundary conditions. For the free-surface flow, a wave absorption zone is attached at the outflow domain in order to minimize reflection effects. The absorption zone effectiveness is validated by the simulation of linear waves propagation over constant-depth bottom. Minimal reflection occurs when an appropriate external dynamic pressure is imposed on the free surface of the absorption zone. Results are presented for cases of wave propagation over constant slope bottom, with slopes 1:10 and 1:50, for various incoming wavelengths and wave heights. Over the bottom slope, lengths of waves in the linear regime are modified according to linear theory dispersion. For waves in the nonlinear regime, wave lengths are becoming shorter, while the free surface elevation deviates from its initial sinusoidal shape and the wave height increases due to shoaling.

Návrh a posouzení suché nádrže a protipovodňové ochrany / Design of small reservoirs and flood protection

Pikna, Martin January 2019 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the design of the flood protection of the village Hrušky (Vyškov district). The hydraulic analysis of the water flow on the rivers Litava (river station km 19,460 - 20,928) and Rakovec (river station km 0,000 - 0,638) was done. The hydraulic analysis was performed on the Q5, Q20 and Q100 flows. For analysis was used a 2D numerical flow model in HEC-RAS 5.0.6. Based on results was designed a flood protection including a dry reservoir. The input data for the diploma thesis was the 2013 study „Litava II – přírodě blízká protipovodňová opatření a obnova přirozené hydromorfologie a retenční kapacity toku a nivy v úseku ř. km 16,0 (Újezd u Brna) až ř. km 24,0 (Slavkov u Brna)“. The diploma thesis was processed as a real project in the design office of Regioprojekt Brno, s.r.o.
