Here we show emission in CW regime, Passive Mode-Locking, using Carbon Nanotubes as saturable absorbers and finally Active mode-locking at 7GHz, simultaneously.

Dvořák, Petr January 2014 (has links)
This thesis discusses Slot antennas that are based in gap waveguide technology, which allows them to work with high frequency signals. It contains theoretical findings about antennas and waveguides, which are later used in the design. The practical section of this thesis concentrates on designing a specific gap waveguide for 10 and 24 GHz frequencies, starting with modeling and parameter optimalization. This gap waveguide is then used as a base for slot antenna design. The final antenna is designed for frequency of 10 GHz, for both linear and right-handed circular polarizations. With right-handed circular polarization, the achieved band was approximately 1.41 GHz, while the gain was 7,6 dB.

Difrakce na prostorových a/nebo hlubokých objektech / Diffraction on Spatial and/or Deep Objects

Hrabec, Aleš January 2008 (has links)
This discourse deals with a theoretical study of the radiation passage through a diffraction screen with non-zero size in the propagation direction of the radiation, i.e. the radiation passage through a three-dimensional object. Without any loss of generality, we solve the problem for cylindrical cavity in metal. The task exceeds evidently standard scalar theory of diffraction, thus we solve the problem using a waveguiding theory. Following the principles of the electromagnetic theory, we derive required formulae to determine mode distribution at the entry of the cavity. Further, we solve numerically the radiation propagation through the cavity, then we actually seek for radiation distribution at the very end of the cavity. This yields, with a help of the discrete Fourier transform, an intensity distribution of Fraunhofer diffraction pattern, consequently compared with an intesity distribution of the radiation pattern of Fraunhofer diffraction on infinitely thin circular opening having the radius of the cylinder cavity under study. A comparison of such patterns results to a conclusion, that the cavity length has a significatn influence on the diffraction pattern and more importantly, that the scalar diffraction theory appears incorrect for a coherent light passage through cavities longer than their radius squared. Similarly, the same conclusion is inversely proportional to a wavelength of the interacting radiation. Finally, we mention an existence of the so called "focal regime", when the radiation repeatedly exhibits roughly one order increased intensity on the symmetry axis of the cavity.

Návrh anténní řady pro MSPS radar pracující v pásmu L / Design of antenna array for MSPS radar operating in L-band

Gaja, Tomáš January 2017 (has links)
This thesis deals with the design of an antenna array for the MSPS Radar L band application. The introduction covers a research for a suitable antenna element which can be used as an element of steerable antenna array. The control of the main beam is enabled in the vertical plane. Based on a presented theory, a slotted waveguide antenna array with an omnidirectional radiation in the vertical plane is designed. The operating frequency is set to 1 367.5 MHz. Slotted array achieves 20° width of the main beam in elevation plane. The achieved gain of the array is 9.15 dBi. Further attention of this work is focused on the beam steering that is allowed by diode switching. The last part of the thesis presents manufacturing process of the designed model. The CST Microwave Studio software was used for the antenna array designing process.

Theory, Design, and Fabrication of Diffractive Grating Coupler for Slab Waveguide

Harper, Kevin Randolph 18 September 2003 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis presents the theory design and fabrication of a diffractive grating coupler. The first part of the design process is to choose the period of the grating coupler based on the desired coupling angle. The second part of the design process is to choose the geometry of the grating that gives maximum coupling efficiency based on rigorous analyses. The diffraction gratings are fabricated by recording the interference between two waves in photoresist. The waveguide is fabricated from silicon nitride that is deposited by chemical vapor deposition. The diffraction grating recording assembly is described along with the grating coupler fabrication process. A grating coupler is fabricated with an input coupling efficiency of 15% at a coupling angle of 22.9°. The results also show that the light is being coupled into the nitride waveguide indirectly. The light is coupled first into a photoresist slab and then into the nitride waveguide through modal coupling and scattering. An analysis of the structure explains the coupling, and rigorous analyses are given to show that the measured results are in accordance with theory.

Magnetically tunable microwave resonator/filter / Magnetiskt inställbart mikrovågsfilter

Ye, Zhi January 2022 (has links)
The magnetic tunability of ferrites has been studied and applied on many electric components for working in various frequency bands. Filters or resonators loaded by ferrites can thus work for different frequency requirements by tunning external biasing field. However, filters or resonators built by traditional waveguides are large in size. And for tunning with biasing field below the ferroresonance point, dissipation in ferrites will increase rapidly if the working frequency is near the ferroresonance zone. It leads to the drop of Q values of resonators and the tuning range is limited to stay away from ferroresonance. For the filter, remaining high Q values in wide frequency tuning range is the base of good performance and tunability. In industry, demands of cost reduction and integration encourage the miniaturization of electric components. It is always challenging but attractive to find solutions compromising size, performance, and implement ability. In this project, investigation for possible solutions of magnetic bias tunable filter is made and their comparisons are presented. Analysis and simulation are made to a specific ferrites-loaded substrate integrated waveguide resonator. With homogeneous below-resonance biased field, results in the reference are reached again and analyzed. With biasing filed above the ferroresonance, higher Q values and smaller size can be achieved and the drop of Q is avoided. A magnet structure is designed to study how the resonator works in inhomogeneous biasing filed. Biasing of below-resonance field is achieved with the magnets structure, though the performance is not good as homogeneous biasing case. A 3-order filter is then built based on the resonator working in the below-resonance bias. It’s a band-pass filter and tunable. A magnet structure is also built and simulated for the filter to verify its feasibility.

Growth-based computer aided design strategies for multimode waveguide design with the aid of functional blocks

Vale, Christopher A. W. 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (PhD) -- Stellenbosch University, 2001. / Some digitised pages may appear illegible due to the condition of the original hard copy. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: A new technique for the design of multimode devices in overmoded waveguide is presented. The technique applies the principle of growth-based design and uses a conceptual functional block representation of the design structure to provide necessary flexibility to the design algorithms. Two growth based design strategies are proposed and evaluated. The first uses a generalized synthesis-oriented scanning technique, and the second uses an evolutionary strategy. The techniques provide reliable solutions to a variety of multimode design problems. In order to facilitate sufficiently fast numerical analysis, novel enhancements of the mode matching technique are developed and the use of surrogate models is investigated. In addition, to allow physical evaluation of the finished devices, original techniques of measuring multimode devices are formulated and utilised. Two practical problems are used to evaluate the performance of the design procedures. The first is the design of overmoded waveguide chokes for microwave heating facilities, and the second is the design of multimode horns for antenna and spatial power combining applications. Various examples of each type of problem are presented with measurements of manufactured solutions.

An investigation of the equivalence between combline and evanescent-mode waveguide filters & of aspects related to reduction of manufacturing costs for combline filters

Nassar, Shamim O. 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MScEng)--Stellenbosch University, 2011. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: An investigation of the functional similarities and di erences between a combline lter and an evanescent-mode waveguide lter is presented. The design theory of the two types of lters is outlined. Two lters are designed to operate at a centre frequency of 2 GHz with a 5% bandwidth using similar waveguide dimensions, but using the two di erent design theories. The bandpass characteristics of the two lters are then compared over the primary passband and over a broad range of frequencies to observe the stopband characteristics. It is shown that a combline lter with a large groundplane spacing behaves like an evanescent-mode waveguide lter but a di erence in bandwidth exists between the two. Di erent aspects related to the manufacture of coaxial cavity lters are addressed with speci c emphasis on cost reduction. The considerations to be made when choosing the right materials, manufacturing techniques and surface nishes for microwave coaxial cavity lters so that good performance is obtained while reducing the overall costs associated with manufacturing are discussed. The concept of Design for Manufacture (DFM) is discussed. Three combline lters are designed for reduced manufacturing cost, applying di erent changes in the physical structure to suit the speci c manufacturing technique used. Two of these have the same design speci cations, operating at a centre frequency of 1.3 GHz with a 10% bandwidth but are designed for manufacture using two di erent manufacturing techniques: milling and wire-cutting EDM. The third lter is designed for manufacture using a combination of the milling and wirecutting processes to have a bandwidth of 1.8% with the primary passband centred at 2.125 GHz. Problems encountered in manufacturing are explained, one of which results in the use of waterjet cutting for the manufacture of lters initially supposed to be manufactured using wirecutting EDM. Measurement results for the manufactured lters show a good agreement between the bandwidths of the 3D electomagnetic simulation results. The obtained results also show the e ects of poor surface nishing and of deformations on the resonant frequency and the unloaded Q of the lters.
