_________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / In this work we study the Edwards-Wilkinson equation (EWE) for growth[1]. The EWE is a linear equation which contains difusion and stochasticnoise. We present a methodology for solve the EWE which is simpler than that presented in the classical work of Nattermann [2]. We propose a generalization of the EWE to include the so-called memory. I.e. a growth dynamics where remote events of the past are important to dynamic events in the present time. We call this new equation the Edwards-Wilkinson equation with memory (EWEM). We investigate how the memories can change the critical growth exponents. Moreover, we obtain an analytical solution to describe the roughness evolution, and to determine how memories change the exponentsand its universality class.

Bonaro Wilkinson Overstreet: Her Significance in Adult Education

Dorman, Brigid Byrne 05 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine Bonaro Wilkinson Overstreet's significance and development as a leader in adult education. This study provided information on her life, her individual and collaborative contributions with Harry Overstreet in adult education, and her interest in poetry. Data were collected using online database searching; review of published, unpublished, and informal documents of Bonaro Overstreet; and correspondence and interviews with professional colleagues, employers, and personal acquaintances. Interviews were conducted with current authorities in the field of adult education for informational purposes. Bonaro Overstreet did not influence or alter the course of adult education as a field of study. Her strength was in her role of practitioner and contributor to research, theory, and professional development of the adult education field. She broadened the depth of adult education as an advocate of knowing oneself and acting responsibly in the context of democratic responsibility.

Novel Design of a Wideband Ribcage-Dipole Array and its Feeding Network

Harty, Daniel D. 14 January 2011 (has links)
In this thesis the focus was on the design, fabrication, and tests of the feeding networks individually and within an array system. The array feeding network is a corporate-fed type utilizing equal-split, stepped-multiple sections of the conventional Wilkinson power divider in microstrip form with a unique topology. The feeding network was specifically designed for a broadside relatively small linearly-polarized wideband UHF non-scanning array for directed power applications that uses an array radiator with a new volumetric ribcage dipole configuration. The array has a large impedance bandwidth and consistent front lobe gain over the wide frequency band. Theoretical and experimental results describing the performance of the array feeding network and the array are presented and discussed.

A design procedure for a 1-to-4 Ultra-Wideband Wilkinson power divider

Ali, Ammar H., Abd-Alhameed, Raed, Hu, Yim Fun, Child, Mark B. 11 1900 (has links)
No / The design of a physically small, equal phase and equal power, 1-to-4 ultra-wideband Wilkinson power divider is presented. Initially, a 1-to-2 divider was designed and optimized for the 3.1 GHz-to-10.6 GHz range. The 1-to-4 divider was then realized using three 1-to-2 dividers, and further optimized for full band insertion loss, return loss, and isolation. The circuits were constructed using a 0.75 mm thick Rogers RO3035 substrate, and experimentally validated.

Beam-forming module for backhaul link in a Relay-aided 4G network

Petropoulos, Ioannis, Voudouris, Konstantinos N., Abd-Alhameed, Raed, Jones, Steven M.R. 25 May 2015 (has links)
Yes / A novel beam-forming module based on Wilkinson power divider technology, including attenuators and phase shifter chips is designed, fabricated and evaluated to be incorporated in a Relay Station connecting it with the Base Station under a 4G network. The proposed module is a 1:8 port circuit, utilizing two substrates, providing approximately 700 MHz bandwidth over 3.5 GHz frequency band and less than −20 dB transmission line coupling. Moreover an external control unit that feeds the beam-forming module with code-words that define the proper amplitude/phase of the excitation currents is established and described. The presented module is connected to a planar array and tested for two beam-forming scenarios, providing satisfactory radiation patterns.

Design of Multi Band Microwave Devices Using Coupled Line Transmission Lines

Katakam, Sri 05 1900 (has links)
Multi band technology helps in getting multiple operating frequencies using a single microwave device. This thesis presents the design of dual and tri band microwave devices using coupled transmission line structures. Chapter 2 presents the design of a novel dual band transmission line structure using coupled lines. In chapter 3, Design of a dual band branch line coupler and a dual band Wilkinson power divider are proposed using the novel dual band transmission line structure presented in the previous chapter. In chapter 4, Design of a tri band transmission line structure by extending the dual band structure is presented. The Conclusion and future work are presented in chapter 5.

A Study of Direct Digital Manufactured RF/Microwave Packaging

Stratton, John W.i. 28 October 2015 (has links)
Various facets of direct digital manufactured (DDM) microwave packages are studied. The rippled surface inherent in fused deposition modeling (FDM) fabricated geometries is modeled in Ansoft HFSS, and its effect on the performance of microstrip transmission lines is assessed via simulation and measurement. The thermal response of DDM microstrip transmission lines is analyzed over a range of RF input powers, and linearity is confirmed over that range. Two IC packages are embedded into DDM printed circuit boards, and their performance is analyzed. The first is a low power RF switch, and the second is an RF front end device that includes a low noise amplifier (LNA) and a power amplifier (PA). The RF switch is shown to perform well, as compared to a layout designed for a Rogers 4003C microwave laminate substrate. The LNA performs within datasheet specifications. The power amplifier generates substantial heat, so a thermal management attempt is described. Finally, a capacitively loaded 6dB Wilkinson power divider is designed and fabricated using DDM techniques and materials. Its performance is analyzed and compared to simulation. The device is shown to compare favorably to a similar device fabricated on a Rogers 4003C microwave laminate using traditional printed circuit board techniques.

From Mass Consumer Society to a Society of Consumers: Consumption and Community in Late Modernity

Colling, Matthew Russell 28 April 2009 (has links) (PDF)
This study examines a late-modernity model of society where consumption is the conduit through which individuals meet society. This model is contrasted with Wilkinson's (1991) model that sees the community as the place where individuals make contact with society. Using Brown et al.'s (1996) Outshopping Index, residents of two rural Mississippi Delta communities were asked how often they shopped for 30 consumable items outside of their communities both in 1996 and again in 2007. Logistic regression demonstrates a significant interaction effect between year and outshopping such that outshopping was significantly and positively associated with community sentiment in 1996 but not in 2007. Such a transformation in the locus associated with consumption habits and community can be explained as an effect of globalization on rural residents during the period under observation. The results may be indicative of larger shifts in society as described by Bauman (2007), who argues that late modernity is a shift from mass consumer society to a society of consumers. This shift changed the meaning of community, eroding its traditional function as a point of access to society. Hyper-individualized consumption now serves this role. Though acknowledging that community is not a phenomenon exclusive to rural communities, I contend that they serve as ideal natural laboratories for observing late-modern societal shifts.
