Shear Strengthening of RC Beams Using Externally Bonded and Anchored FRP U-wraps

D'Souza, Clinton January 2016 (has links)
Externally bonded FRP U-wraps are a common shear strengthening configuration for RC beams, however premature debonding of the wraps is a major problem, which limits the effectiveness and efficiency of the FRP strengthening. In this investigation a new π-shape carbon anchor was used to fasten the FRP U-wraps to the concrete in an attempt to prevent/delay debonding of the wraps and increase their effectiveness. Fourteen large scale rectangular beams with a 1900 mm span, 400 mm height, and 170 mm width were tested in three-point bending with various configurations of FRP shear strengthening. Shear pre-cracks were introduced in the beams at angles of 30 and 45 degrees in an attempt to control the inclination angle of the shear crack and determine its effect on the FRP shear resistance. The FRP shear strengthening configurations included un-anchored U-wraps, U-wraps with anchors, U-wraps with horizontal strips, and full wraps. The results showed that the use of a variable shear crack inclination angle in the CSA S806-12 (2012) standard led to overestimated shear resistance predictions for beams with a single shear crack, therefore a conservative 45 degree shear crack inclination is recommended for design. The use of the proposed carbon anchors resulted in a 74% increase in shear strength over the un-anchored U-wrapped beams, while only using half the amount of FRP. The use of the anchors also resulted in a 286% increase in the ultimate FRP strain over the un-anchored U-wraps, and allowed the FRP wraps to achieve 58% of their rupture strain. The use of horizontal strips provided similar results to the anchors and may be used as a less labour intensive alternative, but this issue needs further investigation. / Dissertation / Master of Applied Science (MASc) / Damaged or older reinforced concrete structures can be rehabilitated by using externally bonded fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets, which are bonded to the concrete surface using an epoxy adhesive. For the case of shear strengthening of beams, it is common for FRP sheets to be wrapped around the sides and bottom of the beam, resembling a U-shape. The problem with this configuration is that under high levels of load the FRP sheets tend to peel off the concrete surface (debonding). This limits the effectiveness of the rehabilitation and results in the inefficient use of the FRP. A new method for anchoring the FRP sheets to the concrete surface is investigated in this research study. The use of a new in-situ π-shape anchor shows promising results, as it delays debonding and provides a large increase in strength with less FRP needed.

Akuta effekter av knästöd (Knee Sleeves och Knee wraps) på prestation vid muskelstärkande träning hos personer med friska knän - En litteraturöversikt

Vängman, Natalie, Ollashed, Ariel January 2023 (has links)
Syfte: Att undersöka vilka dokumenterade, akuta effekter knee wraps och knee sleeves har på prestationen vid muskelstärkande träning hos personer med friska knän. Metod: Systematisk litteraturöversikt. Artiklar har sökts i databaserna Pubmed, Discover, Medline, Scopus, Web of Science.

Obaly a jejich vliv na efektivitu logistických operací / Packaging and Its Influence on the Effectiveness on Logistic Operations

PECHOVÁ, Jaroslava January 2008 (has links)
The topic of my work is packaging and its influence on the effectiveness of logistic operations. The main aim of my diploma work was an analysis of portfolio of products of a packaging industry which enters distributive chains in the sphere of an elected sortiment group from the point of view of their applicability for logistic operations. I acquired information for elaborating this work from the company Schenker, Ltd., Jamall, Inc. and next from shopping chains. I compared pallets which are used by the company Schenker in logistics. In the company Jamall I dealt with a portfolio of furniture and its influence on effectiveness of logistic operations. In shopping chains I dealt with the matter of conveniency or inconviency of packaging of non-alcoholic beverages. Next I applied a properly elaborated questionnaire aimed at environment and packaging. I applied the method of observation, controlled interview, analysis of documents, processing data from the operations register file and questionnaire investigation for acquiring necessary information. I made a conclusion that a proper choice of packaging has an essential influence on lowering costs involving storage, manipulation and transport.

Použití zavinovačky v péči o novorozence a kojence / Using wraps in the care of newborn, suckling

FUČÍKOVÁ, Ivana January 2017 (has links)
The use of wraps in the care of newborns and infants. The thesis deals with the use of wraps suitable for newborns and infants. Wraps are used particulary to calm down children. Because swaddling of a child imitates the strength and tightness of their mother's womb, children are mostly feeling calmly and safely. There are many wraps on the market, like blankets, classic lace-wraps, cocoons and wraps specially developed for restless and teary children. The goal of the thesis was to find out what knowledge have parents of children about swaddling, which wraps do they use and effect of swaddling on children. We have tried to verify the effects of swaddling in practice. In this thesis, we used a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, interview techniques, and action research. The qualitative part of the research took the form of an unstructured interview. The sample for this interview was 33 mothers who had to answer open questions. The results of the interview were manually written to the printed record sheets. The interviewed responders were individually asked in their homes, in cafes and children's clubs. At first was completed the basic respondents information like their age, education level, place of residence and number of children and their age during their first pregnancy. Then we proceeded to talk about swaddling children to varienty types of wraps. We asked questions related to the type used wraps, swaddling style, usage time of wraps. We also asked about what for effect had swaddling on a child, whether the child calmed down, slept or remained teary. The collected personal information we processed statistically to help us to determine the answer to our hypothesis. Action research was applied on 4 children and one pair of twins in their home environment. Prior to that, their parents agreed with the research. We agreed that during the research will be present at least one parent. Parents received a record sheet on which they could write down when the child had trouble sleeping, or falling asleep and how much did the child cry. Based on their statements and notes we have devised a way to help the child to fall asleep or calm down. Parents got recommended specialized literature on swaddling, which they could later study. For swaddling we had the opportunity to use more types of wraps, according to the wish of parents, especially with best regards for the child, because each individual requires a specific type of swaddling and different wraps. Together with parents, we chose a wrap for the day or night and we wrapped the baby up and observed how it goes. Parents then following days wrapped up the children themselves and told us about how the child behaves during swaddling and whether was there a desired effect. After a month, we met parents again and personally summarized the effects of wraps on their baby and the changes that occurred after swaddling. Results: In the qualitative survey, we found out that most parents use wraps to calm down and soothe the child. Most mothers reported using quick wraps, classic lace wraps or a combination of both. Half of the surveyed mothers said that after using wraps were their children calmer. The remaining third of the mothers said that swaddling helped to let their children to sleep better. Children of the remaining respondents did not feel well during swaddling and they were more teary and restless. Questions regarding age, education and place of residence showed that more than half of respondents have completed education with graduation, a third of mothers have an university degree. The youngest mother was at the time of our research 21 years old, the oldest was aged 38 years, the average age of mothers was 28.2 years. In the question regarding the residence, we found out that 19 of the interviewed mothers were living in a town and the remaining number, 14, were living in the smaller village.

ARCHITECTURE The centre and entrance point for atrection a relx is terace with pool, with corridor to cafe and skylights that leads to reception. Around this atrium, there is a ramp, rising up. Pools are not see n ko the screens are individual attractions, atmosphere. The height change of each pool, sauna and whether this involves physical effort is rewarded with open views to the surroundings and relax themselves. Entering the building through a covered, but bright bay, passage is a continuation of the street fishing. Thus the very end of the reception side. Thus eliminate the problem of a parcel which is like a scene out of town. Layout In the passages suggest leaving the car park, Kafe-bar with a simple menu and fresh multifunctional workshop, creative playground. It is known fact, that in the old spa locations to find valuable pieces of pottery, small painting and sculpture and other artifacts that speak of links with the vivacious work, relax, relax with a manual and spiritual. This room will also serve as a nursery for parents resting in the spa, in the specified date and time. Upon entering the spa itself, the reception with high ceilings and skylights from the terrace, the visitor to the issue of changing rooms with bathroom facilities. The first ramp is rising just from my father. All the dark hallway, followed by a bright and translucent glass facades. The key is just a wall bordering the ramps and a few additional columns for the perimeter of the building. About half a meter above (and always rises only about 500 mm, the gradient of 1:16 to 8 meters length), the visitor gets to the first pool. Sunny southern facade is designed as a double, at this point is the greenhouse, it is no wonder that the first two pools are linked to breathing, inhalation, nature herbs.
