Serielle Transformationen von XML

Die Auszeichnungssprache XML definiert eine einfache Syntax für strukturierte Daten, die sich so applikationsübergreifend einsetzen lassen. Eine der wichtigsten Voraussetzungen für den Austausch solcher XML-Daten ist die Möglichkeit ihrerTransformation. Unter den derzeit verfügbaren Transformationsmethoden für XML hat die Sprache XSLT als W3C-Standard die größte Verbreitung gefunden. Allerdings skaliert XSLT nicht für große Datenmengen, da hier eine Gesamtsicht auf das XML-Dokument vorausgesetzt wird. Andere existierende Transformationsmethoden besitzen entweder die gleiche Eigenschaft oder erfordern die Programmierung auf der XML-fernen Ebene einer Programmiersprache. In dieser Arbeit wird mit STX eine Transformationssprache für XML entwickelt, die diese Lücke füllt. STX orientiert sich sehr stark an XSLT, verarbeitet jedoch ein XML-Dokument als Datenstrom. STX kann so prinzipiell beliebig große Dokumente transformieren. Die aus der Sprache XPath 2.0 des W3C abgeleitete STX-Pfadsprache (STXPath) trägt dabei der eingeschränkten Sicht auf die zu transformierenden Daten Rechnung, indem sie nur den Zugriff auf die Vorfahren des jeweiligen Kontextknotens ermöglicht. Zu den neuartigen Konzepten in STX zählen neben prozeduralen Eigenschaften vor allem Gruppen, Schnittstellen zu externen Transformationsprozessen, die komplexe Transformation von Zeichenketten sowie Sprachmittel zur Fehlerbehandlung. Diese Arbeit stellt Entwurfsmuster für die wichtigsten Transformationstypen in STX vor und demonstriert an drei Fallbeispielen den Einsatz in realen Projekten. Der dazu verwendete STX-Prozessor Joost verfügt zudem über standardisierteJava-Schnittstellen, die dessen Integration in bestehende Java-Applikationen erleichtern. / The markup language XML defines a simple syntax for structured data that can be used across application boundaries. One of the most important prerequisites for the interchange of such XML data is the possibility of its transformation. Among the currently available transformation approaches for XML, the W3C standard XSLT has gained the biggest popularity. However, XSLT doesn''t scale for huge amounts of data because it requires an overall view to an XML document. Other existing transformation approaches either have the same character or require low-level programming using a general programming language. This PhD thesis introduces STX, an XML transformation language that fills this gap. STX is strongly geared to XSLT, though it processes an XML document as a stream. Therefore, STX is able to transform documents of any size. The STX path language (STXPath), derived from the W3C standard XPath 2.0, considers the restricted view to the input data and enables the access only to the ancestors of the current context node. The new concepts in STX include besides its procedural behaviour mainly groups, interfaces to external transformation processes, complex transformations of strings, as well as language means for error handling. This work introduces design patterns for the most important transformation types in STX and demonstrates three real-life scenarios. The STX processor Joost used for this purpose provides in addition standardized Java interfaces that facilitate its integration into existing Java applications.

ONTOLOGY-DRIVEN TRANSLATOR GENERATOR FOR DATA DISPLAY CONFIGURATIONS

International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 18-21, 2004 / Town & Country Resort, San Diego, California / This paper presents a new approach for the effective generation of translator scripts that can be used to automate the translation of data display configurations from one vendor format to another. Our approach uses the IDEF5 ontology description method to capture the ontology of each vendor format and provides simple rules for performing mappings. In addition, the method includes the specification of mappings between a language-specific ontology and its corresponding syntax specification, that is, either an eXtensible Markup Language (XML) Schema or Document Type Description (DTD). Finally, we provide an algorithm for automatically generating eXtensible Stylesheet Language Transformation (XSLT) scripts that transform XML documents from one language to another. The method is implemented in a graphical tool called the Data Display Translator Generator (DDTG) that supports both inter-language (ontology-to-ontology) and intra-language (syntax-to-ontology) mappings and generates the XSLT scripts. The tool renders the XML Schema or DTD as trees, provides intuitive, user-friendly interfaces for performing the mappings, and provides a report of completed mappings. It also generates data type conversion code when both the source and target syntaxes are XML Schema-based. Our approach has the advantage of performing language mappings at an abstract, ontology level, and facilitates the mapping of tool ontologies to a common domain ontology (in our case, Data Display Markup Language or DDML), thereby eliminating the O(n^2) mapping problem that involves a number of data formats in the same domain.

An Automated Data Warehouse

An increasing number of organizations are implementing data warehouses to strengthen their decision support systems. This comes with the challenges of the population and the periodic update of data warehouses. In this thesis, we present a tool that provides users with features to create a warehouse database and transform structures of the source database into structures for the warehouse database. It is highly interactive, easy to use, and hides the underlying complexity of manual SQL code generation from its users. Attributes from source tables can be mapped into new attributes in the warehouse database tables using aggregate functions. Then, relevant data is automatically transported from the source database to the newly created warehouse. The tool thus integrates warehouse creation, schema mapping and data population into a single generalpurpose tool. This tool has been designed as a component of the framework for an automated data warehouse being developed at theComputer Science Department, University of New Orleans. Users of this framework are the database administrators, who will also be able to synchronize updates of multiple copies of the data warehouse. Warehouse images that need to be updated are taken offline and applications that need to access the data warehouse can now access any of the other image warehouses. The Switching Application built into this framework switches between databases in a way that is totally transparent to applications so that they do not realize existence of multiple copies of the data warehouse. In effect, even non-technical users can create, populate and update data warehouses with minimal time and effort.

<p>Saab Aerosystems, a part of Saab AB, has the overall responsibility for the development of the fourth generation fighter aircraft JAS 39 Gripen. When planning a mission for one or more aircrafts, a computer program called Mission Support System is used. Some of the data from the planning is then transferred to the actual aircraft. Today there are some unwanted restrictions in the planning software. One of these restrictions is about the fact that a number of parameters that controls the output from a planned mission are not configurable runtime, i.e. a reinstallation at customers location is needed to change this. The main purpose of this thesis was to propose a new design and a new framework that solves the inflexibility described above. The design should also be validated by a test implementation. A number of different designs were proposed and four of these were selected to be candidates for being implemented. An important tool used when developing the designs was the theory of design patterns. To choose one of the four a ranking system, based on both measurable metrics and non-measurable experience, was used. One design was selected to be the best and after implementing of the design it was considered to be valid. Future work can consist of rewriting all modules in the software to use the new framework.</p>

ScoreSVG: A New Software Framework for Capturing the Semantic Meaning and Graphical Representation of Musical Scores Using JAVA2D, XML, and SVG

ScoreSVG implements a three-tiered software architecture that generates musical scores in scalable vector graphics (SVG), something no other known music editor has done. SVG is non-proprietary XML-based format that renders graphical content into a web browser equipped with a SVG plugin. Scores in SVG can be scripted to produce interactive music theory examples, or make other graphical score changes impossible in any other format. Large music score editors such as Finale and Sibelius output to proprietary file formats, or Postscript (.ps) files that are not interchangeable or modifiable once created. Open source efforts such as LilyPond or Guido require the user to learn a new text-based music format to get a PostScript music score. ScoreSVG converts the data from a user-friendly visual front end to GuidoXML, capturing the semantic meaning of the score, and then outputs the result in SVG using an XSL stylesheet and the Saxon 8.4 XSLT processor.

The diploma thesis deals with the development of a tool for automated generation of load testing reports, which is implemented in the form of a plug-in into the load tester JMeter as one of its components. The theoretical part contains an analysis of load testing and DDoS parameters, which are the output of a web report. The thesis includes an analysis of available template processors. Based on the analysis of processor’s properties, the most appropriate one was chosen. This processor was then used in a tool that, using the web technologies, generates a report in a form of interactive web page. The thesis also mentions the installation and operation of the created JMeter software plug-in. The diploma thesis describes the whole process of the development of the plug-in.

The thesis depicts the security risks and the ways how the application can be protected against the XSS attacks and SQL Injection. Furthermore, it analyses a concept of the system containing features of the Web 2.0 trend, and its implementation in practice. The internet portal enabling all registered users to share information with the others, will be the result. Files can be uploaded, and maps and videos can be inserted into the system.
