Estimativa de ingestão do corante artificial amarelo crepúsculo e quantificação em alimentos consumidos pela população brasileira

Feitosa, Luana Carolina Alves January 2016 (has links)
To evaluate the possible effects that artificial dyes can cause health is very important to have data on exposure to these substances. The fact that several studies suggest health problems related to the consumption of artificial dye Sunset Yellow (SY) justifies the need to verify that the ingestion of this substance through consumption of processed foods, exceeds the Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI). The aim of this study was to evaluate and characterize the SY intake by the Brazilian population. For this, they were first checked which foods marketed by one of the country's largest supermarket chains containing SY in its formulation. the average intake of these foods using the Household Budget Surveys were evaluated (HBS 2008-2009) and determined the Theory Maximum Daily Intake (TMDI) SY, through the values set by the Brazilian legislation for the maximum permitted concentration of the dye in the different groups of food. Later analyzes were performed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) to evaluate the Yellow Twilight content in powdered drinks, soft drinks, isotonic drinks, gelatins and candy, and check the use of bands of this dye and the adequacy of legislation current. Through the data, it was found that the TMDI for SY, considering the average per capita consumption of food does not exceed the ADI for any of the studied population distributions. However, when considering the prevalence of food consumption, the TMDI is higher than the ADI for adolescents 10-18 years (277% of ADI), adults (181% of ADI) and the elderly (140% ADI) in urban areas and rural and in five regions of the country. Regarding the samples, it can be seen that, considering the averages, the products that contain SY are in order: Soft drinks (7.91 mg/100 mL); Isotonic drinks (6.22 mg/100 mL); powdered drinks (5.96 mg/100 mL); Gelatins (5.92 mg/100 mL) and candy (below 1,25 mg/100 g) Through this work, it is concluded that considering the average consumption per capita daily intake is between 14 and 31% of ADI and do not represent a health risk. However, it was found that some individuals of all population groups may be ingesting the dye in amounts greater than those recommended. It should be noted that the HBS (2008-2009), used as a data source in this research, interviewed children from 10 years old. Since in this study the use of SY increased by reducing the age, it is likely that this trend will apply to children under 10 years. Given the above, it is necessary a greater rigor in applying and monitoring the use of Sunset Yellow in food products, as the high consumption of this dye can cause adverse reactions to their consumers.

Provincialisme et art conceptuel : l'exemple de l'art belge (1969-1974) / Provincialism and conceptual art : the Belgian instance (1969-1974)

Pen, Laurence 01 February 2013 (has links)
Reconsidérer leur situation par rapport aux centres amène ainsi à réévaluer la position occupée par les travaux de ces artistes au sein des conceptualismes européens / Located in the centre of the geographical triangle formed by France, the Netherlands and Germany, Belgium is a merging point in the network that developed the conceptual art trends in the Seventies. The Belgian art scene is, however, under-represented in the critical and academic studies on this topic. The aim of this PhD thesis is therefore to show the relevance of the works by outstanding Belgian artists - Jacques Charlier, Jacques Lizène, Schwind and Alain D'Hooghe - between 1969 and 1974 in the light of those of conceptual art, but also in relation to the essays that have contributed to define it. Although their awareness of the international debate and even if they made use of the conceptual art codes, this comparative approach allows to underline how the above mentioned Belgian artists positioned their practices and how they operated independently from the main conceptual art network. Through subversive strategies inherited from Belgian surrealism, their works contributed to challenge the limit of the notion of conceptual art. To reconsider their stance leads to reassess the position of their work in the scope of the European conceptualisms

Blesk - historie a vývoj nejčtenějšího deníku v České republice / Blesk - The History and Development of the Most Read Daily Newspaper in the Czech Republic

Dernerová, Žaneta January 2017 (has links)
This master's thesis aims at the development of the most successful Czech tabloid journal Blesk. It starts with the comparison of Czech and foreign tabloids. Subsequently, it captures the history of Czechoslovakian and Czech tabloids from the First Republic until the present day. This thesis also deals with the journals that unsuccessfully tried to compete with the journal Blesk. Nowadays, the only remaining tabloid journal is Aha!, nevertheless it is owned by the same publishing company as the journal Blesk. Further, the thesis pays attention to the main personalities who helped to shape the form of the journal. It inquires into the development of the graphical shape of the front pages and it tries to interpret their symbolical message, both by the means of qualitative analyses. Alongside that, it deals with the editors and their influence on the development of the journal, its visual form, and the choice of topics on the front pages. The journal Blesk also includes advertisements, and this thesis focuses on that too.

Yellow Pacific on White ice : transnational, postcolonial and genealogical reading of Asian American and Asian female figure skaters in the US media

Seo, Jae Chul 01 December 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to explore the cultural meanings of Asian/American and Asian female skaters through an examination of the US media narratives of them from a period beginning in the early 1980s and ending in the late 2000s. Main subjects are Tiffany Chin (Taiwanese American), Kristi Yamaguchi (Japanese American), Michele Kwan (Chinese American), and a group of Asians such as Japanese skaters (Midori Ito, Yuka Sato, Shizuka Arakawa and Asada Mao), Chinese skaters (Chen Lu), and Korean skater (Yu-Na Kim). Drawing on Reading Sport Project as a methodological tool and the Sporting Black Atlantic as a theoretical tool, I deploy what I call the Sporting Yellow Pacific as a theoretical reading frame for this project. It refers to a genealogical space that is geographically transnational and historically neo colonial, in which the difference of Asian females is epistemologically subjected as ‘Other’ in the ontological space of American white national imagination. With this frame, I attempt to conceptualize the skaters as what I call the yellow female skater, a racialized and gendered sporting icon, which signifies a number of sets of complex and sometimes ambivalent images: nationally American but racially Asian; culturally favored as a model minority but also perilous and foreign as yellow peril; naturally primitive and/or childish but also hyper-sexual and exotic; and, biologically talented or superior but aesthetically underdeveloped. Through an analysis of these images in relation to representation, discourse, and power, I eventually write this dissertation as a genealogy that traces a historical trajectory of the yellow female skater.

Reduction of Volatile Organic Compounds Emitted during Kiln Drying of Southern Yellow Pine Lumber

Dahlen, Joseph Martin 09 December 2006 (has links)
The objective of the research is to reduce the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted during kiln drying of southern yellow pine (SYP) lumber. Three treatment methods were explored to determine their effect on VOC emissions. The three methods were configured at the air exhaust of a pilot-scale dry kiln. 1) A steel reactor containing copper tubing heated to 100°, 200°, and 240° Celsius was evaluated. Temperature did not statistically affect VOC emissions (p-value = 0.1674). The average reduction of VOCs at 240° C was seven percent. 2) The use of hydrogen peroxide and ultra-violet (UV) light did not reduce VOCs emitted during kiln drying. 3) The use of Fenton?s reagent, with hydrogen peroxide and ferrous sulfate, also did not reduce VOCs emitted during kiln drying. 4) It is recommended that future studies with copper heated to temperatures above 240° C be performed.

Identification and characterization of the genetic determinants for yellow fever virus infection and dissemination in Aedes aegypti

Huang, Yan-Jang January 1900 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy / Department of Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology / Stephen Higgs / The genetic composition of arboviruses is a critical determinant of viral infectivity and the capacity for virus dissemination in arthropod vectors. Due to concerns related to a hypothetical potential for loss of attenuation, the supression of vector infection and dissemination is a critical component for the rationale-based design of live-attenuated flavivirus vaccine candidates. The yellow fever virus (YFV) 17D vaccine virus is not only attenuated in vertebrates, but also has low infectivity for Aedes agypti mosquitoes and since it does not disseminate, it is not transmissible. Using a reverse genetics system, the mutations present in the envelope protein YFV 17D virus were characterized in Ae. aegypti to determine the role of mutations in limiting the viral infectivity and dissemination capacity. This knowledge would contribute to the rational design of live attenuated vaccines with the desirable phenotype of being nontransmissible by arthropod vectors. The upper lateral portion of the YFV 17D envelope (E) protein domain III (EDIII) habors the T380R mutation in the FG loop. Experiments demonstrated that the T380R mutation was associated with the viral infectivity phenotype for mosquitoes, but did not influence dissemination into the secondary tissues. The G52R mutation in the molecular hinge region that is located between E protein domains I (EDI) and II, significantly reduced viral infectivity for mosquitoes. In contrast, when cloned into the Asibi wildtype virus genetic backbone, the T173I mutation in the loop structure between the G0 and H0 β- strands did not attenuate viral infection and dissemination. The double mutant virus containing both the G52R and T173I mutations in the E protein, showed a similar attenuated reduced infectivity to the single G52R mutant. The M299I mutation in the linker region between EDI and EDIII resulted in a significantly lower viral infectivity at the initial phase of viral infection at 7 days post-infection in Ae. aegypti. In conclusion, the characterization on four mutations in the YFV 17D vaccine E protein have demonstrated three genetic loci, that can influence the process of YFV infection in Ae. aegypti. These results provide new knowledge and understanding which may have broad applications for the rationale design of safe flavivirus vaccines, via targeting genetic loci and introducing specific mutations that preclude infection of, and transmission by arthropod vectors.
