The purpose of this project is to survey the attitudes towards using film in the subject of Swedish among teachers and students in some upper secondary schools in Sweden. The investigation is based on two surveys answered by teachers of the subject of Swedish, and by students in their second last and last year of upper secondary school. The results show that there is a positive attitude towards using film as a didactic tool among both teachers and students. The teachers’ main purposes of using film are to illustrate a literary epoch and to use films as basis for discussions about different subjects. The students experience learning in a more interesting and motivating way than using only traditional teaching like reading novels. The study also shows a lack in teaching about literacy, critical literacy and media literacy with the help of film. However, the conclusion is that film play an important part and have a place in teaching the subject of Swedish.
