Bakgrund: Övergrepp och andra missförhållanden på vårdboenden där vård-personal är delaktig förekommer internationellt likväl som i Sverige. Detta trots att sjuksköterskan tillsammans med övrig vårdpersonal är anställd för att ge trygghet och en god omvårdnad till de äldre vårdtagarna. Syfte: Att utifrån vårdpersonalens perspektiv belysa missförhållanden och övergrepp mot äldre inom äldrevården där enskild vårdpersonal är delaktig. Metod: En litteraturstudie som behandlade både kvalitativa och kvantitativa studier. Totalt inkluderades tio vetenskapliga artiklar som kvalitetsbedömdes. Litteratursökningen utfördes i databaserna PubMed och Cinahl samt manuellt. Resultat: Fyra huvudkategorier och fyra underkategorier identifierades. Resultatet visade att vårdpersonalen upplevde att arbetsplatsens organisation och rutiner, en påfrestande arbetsmiljö och utbrändhet hos personalen bidrog till övergrepp mot äldre vårdtagare. Särskilt utsatta vårdtagare identifierades och det framkom att det uppstod konflikter mellan vårdpersonalens arbetsuppgifter och vårdtagarens självbestämmande. Som sjuksköterska är det viktigt att känna till ovanstående riskfaktorer för att kunna identifiera och förhindra övergrepp och därmed bidra till en trygg och god omvårdnad av äldre vårdtagare. / Background: Elder abuse in nursing homes committed by the care providers exists both internationally as well as in Swedish settings. This happens even though nurses are employed to give security and good care to the elderly. Aim: The aim of this thesis is to consider the issue of squalid conditions and abuse against the elderly from the perspective of the healthcare professional, where the healthcare professional is thought to be perpetrator. Method: The method used is a literature study, including both a quantative and qualitative approach. A total of ten scientific articles were included and assured for their quality. The literature search was conducted by utilising the PubMed and Cinahl databases as well as manual search. Results: The results show that healthcare professionals feel that the workplace’s organisation and routines lead to a demanding work environment, with the development of stress related illnesses among staff contributing to the abuse against elderly patients. It was noted that abuse of elderly patients was particularly prevalent when conflicts emerged between the healthcare professionals’work tasks and the elderly patient’s right to self-determination. As a nurse it is utterly important to be aware of the risk factors highlighted in order to be able to identify and prevent abuse and consequently contribute to a safe and effective care of elderly patients.
