The purpose of this essay is to analyse how the discourse of problems in integration looks in the political debate in Sweden, over a certain period of time. To understand the difficulties and challenges within the integration policy, we apply a perspective where the focus is on highlighting how the problems in integration are portrayed in discourse but also what is problematized and the issues that are not mentioned as well in the discourse. The study is conducted with the help of discourse analysis where the issues’ starting point in the study's analysis are based on Carol Bacchi's "What's the problem represented to be?" - approach. Despite the many positive aspects of Swedish integration policy, many shortcomings and flaws are shown as well. The main conclusion and even the pattern in this analysis regarding the political discourse of integration policies during this period, show that country was characterized by the discussion on the integration policy’s unclear objectives and insufficiently shared responsibilities that are recurrent in the discourse. The analysis is basically pointing out that the founding general integration policy’s objectives can only be realized if and when we succeed with the organizational, social, economic and political challenges of society. This means a long process of work is due on the challenges that are deeply rooted in society.
