The safety culture of the patient presents itself as a relevant topic, since it is considered a strong indicator and an important diagnostic tool for the evaluation of the quality of health services. Other issues present in the instrument are related to the assignment of notes to patient safety, reporting the number of events reported and sociodemographic profile. The data were analyzed by means of a statistical package, to determine the mean and percentage values for the safety culture size calculations. Comments on patient safety, the last issue of the instrument, were processed and analyzed with the support of the Interface de R pour les Analyses Multidimensionnelles de Textes et de Questionnaires. The study was submitted to the Ethics Committee in Research of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte and obtained approval by means of a consubstantiated opinion of n?. 1,847,136, under Certificate of Presentation for Ethical Appreciation n? 61201316.3.0000.5537. Regarding the professional?s perception of patient safety, the aspects considered to be primordial in the emergency service are the safe and propitious environment for effective and effective patient care, with the aim of reducing or avoiding possible damages; The availability of physical structure and human resources; team work; And the use of protocols. Therefore, it was verified the presence of a punitive culture in the research scenario and the need for action by the managers in order to disseminate and strengthen good safety practices in the emergency environment and thus support health professionals In your work process.
