Previous issue date: 2009 / Resumo: Este estudo buscou compreender a dinâmica das relações identitárias relacionadas às práticas corporais na sociedade contemporânea. Entendendo por práticas corporais os jogos, os esportes, as ginásticas, as lutas e as danças, entre outras atividades que envolvem o corpo, procurou-se interpretar a lógica destes elementos da "cultura de movimento" tendo como pano de fundo a reflexão sobre a contemporaneidade. Diferente das sociedades "primitivas" e "tradicionais", nas quais os vínculos de pertencimento expressavam plenamente a totalidade de determinada cultura, nas sociedades contemporâneas, pela complexidade das relações sociais e culturais, esses elementos assumem características bastante distintas. A unicidade e homogeneidade de sentido que definia as relações identitárias em outras épocas e que as dotavam de solidez, estabilidade e coesão são confrontadas com a diversidade e heterogeneidade de referentes capazes de atribuir sentidos à existência humana, o que tende a provocar certa fragmentação, desestabilização e pulverização das relações de pertencimento. Esse processo é posto em movimento por fatores como a globalização e a mundialização da cultura, fazendo com que as antigas identidades locais ou nacionais sejam confrontadas com novos referentes. As práticas corporais, como manifestações culturais, constituem-se como elementos que também são atingidos por este tipo de transformações. Nesse sentido, o estudo teve como objetivo compreender como as identidades relativas às práticas corporais são afetadas pelas transformações culturais decorrentes de processos como a mundialização da cultura, ou seja, como os vínculos que se dão em escala global influenciam os contextos locais. Além disso, o estudo procurou interpretar como ocorre o processo de mediação pedagógica das identidades referentes às práticas corporais nas aulas de Educação Física e no espaço escolar. As identidades culturais são, antes de tudo, construções simbólicas. Isso permite compreender que a escola, por ser um espaço de mediação simbólica, produz leituras, interpretações, consensos e contrapontos sobre os outros agentes de legitimação cultural que modelam as nossas identidades, como é o caso do mercado e da mídia. Esta pesquisa foi realizada a partir de observações etnográficas de aulas de Educação Física em uma escola do Ensino Básico e Secundário na cidade de Lisboa, Portugal. A experiência etnográfica nas aulas de Educação Física remeteu a discussão para temas relacionados às práticas corporais como Jogos Tradicionais, Esporte Moderno, Futebol, Eurocopa e Skate. Isso possibilitou a compreensão de certos aspectos relacionados ao movimento dos referentes locais e globais que agem na definição dos significados atribuídos às práticas corporais na sociedade contemporânea. / Abstract: This study sought to understand the dynamics of identity relations related to the bodily practices in contemporary society. Conceiving as bodily practices the games, the sports, the gymnastics, the martial arts and the dances, among other activities involving the body, the interpretation of these elements of the 'culture of movements was sought - having as a background the reflection on contemporaneity. Unlike 'primitive' and 'traditional' societies, in which membership ties would fully express the totality of a given culture, in contemporary societies, due to the complexity of social and cultural relations, these elements take on very distinct characteristics. The oneness and homogeneity of sense that defined the identity relations in other epochs, and would give them soundness, stability and cohesion, are confronted by the diversity and the heterogeneity of referents that are able to attribute senses to the human existence, which tends to cause certain degree of fragmentation, destabilisation and atomisation of the relations of membership. This process is set in motion by factors such as globalisation or internationalisation of culture, thus making ancient local or national identities confronted by new referents. The bodily practices as cultural manifestations constitute themselves as elements likely to be reached by the type of transformation described. Thus, the study had the aim to understand how the identities concerning bodily practices are affected by the cultural transformations ensuing processes like internationalisation of culture, i.e., how the bonds built in a global scale influence the local contexts. Furthermore, the study intended to interpret the unfolding of the process of pedagogical mediation in the identities concerning bodily practices in Physical Education classes and in the school space. The cultural identities are, above all, symbolic constructs. This allows the understanding that the school, being a space of symbolic mediation, produces readings, interpretations, consensus and counterpoints on the other agents of cultural legitimation that shape our identities, such as market and media. This research was conducted based on ethnographic observations of Physical Education classes in a school of basic and secondary education in Lisbon, Portugal. The ethnographic experience in Physical Education classes led the discussion to themes concerning bodily practices, such as Traditional Games, Modern Sport, Football, Eurocup and Skateboarding. This made possible the comprehension of certain aspects related to the movements of local and global referents acting in the definition of meanings attributed to the bodily practices in contemporary society. / Doutorado / Educação Fisica e Sociedade / Doutor em Educação Física
