The aim of this research was to understand the construction of the Paternal Involvement with Children with Visual Impairment and its implications regarding the relational dynamics of their Significant Personal Network. It is a qualitative, interpretative, descriptive and cross-sectional study. Twelve fathers of 0-10 years old visually impaired children took part in the study. Data collection instruments were the field journal, the semi-structured interview and the map of networks. Data analysis and organization procedures were guided by Grounded Theory principles, using software Atlas/ti 5.0 for data processing and organization. Throughout this process, two thematic dimensions emerged, each one including five categories of analysis, respectively. Dimension I refers to the Process of Construction of the Paternal Involvement with Children with Visual Impairment, and Dimension II regards the Dynamics of the Significant Personal Network formed around the Father. Results highlight that paternal involvement was a gradual process and its meaning was given based on an idealized perception of paternity, which was in tension with the reality of demands/needs inherent to a visually impaired children. The participation of the father may be classified as paternity in transition, and such involvement had a direct relation to the availability of the significant personal network. Most of the networks were considered large and the level of relational commitment was based on intimate and social relationships. Such networks were mainly constituted by community relationships (school professionals and professional from the association for integration of the visually impaired), underlining the functions of material and service aid, as well as cognitive guidance, and by family relationships, in which case, the prevailing functions were material and service aid, and social company. The visual impairment of the child had an impact on the networks of the fathers, first of all, the emergence of other actors and creation of several bonds around such fathers. That was due to the need for mobilization and acting of members regarding support to fathers in adaptation, coping and overcoming of demands concerning the construction of the paternal involvement of fathers of visually impaired children. Social repercussions of the impairment were reported both as facilitating factors, and as structural, attitude-based, pedagogical and programbased barriers, bearing a different impact on the inclusive process of the child in different contexts of his/her social living. Results point to the understanding of paternal involvement, considered a social construction. Its quality is dependent on a greater or smaller presence of the network formed around such fathers. The importance of interventions with the significant personal networks is highlighted, in terms of a qualitative contribution for the professionals, in the sense of training and promoting paternal involvement, aiming to respond to the demands, such as to foster the potential of development of the visually impaired child. Moreover, results point to the relevance of Public Policies that aim to promote actions offer tools to the family, the child and the others involved, in the sense of instigating the coresponsibility of all the people involved. / The aim of this research was to understand the construction of the
